  1. Thanks! You'd think that with a box set only available via the Pop Market website, they'd at least bother to give a more exact overview of its content somewhere.
  2. So what's the deal with that bonus disc? Is it "Great Encounters" or is it the above? Or is it the above, just titled "Great Encounters" while the original tracks from that album are spread over the other discs (as they were on the individual CD reissues)? Or are there two bonus discs? I'm confused!
  3. I would definitely prefer a CD.
  4. I can't remember where I read this, but is it true that an almost identical DVD was included with one of the recent huge Miles Davis box sets, just that that one still included Walkin'?
  5. I got my copy today and the booklet is not only perfectly legible, it never sets any text against any kind of background unless you want to count a bunch of photo captions (and while the font is even smaller there, I can read them just fine). After reading your comment I was expecting large amounts of tiny text set against visually problematic backgrounds (as was the case with some of the terrible Miles Davis box sets), but this is not the case with the Woody Shaw set at all.
  6. Have these tracks appeared on other CDs or download services meanwhile? To answer my own question, these two tracks (and "All I Want") are featured on a third disc included with the Japanese limited edition of Then And Now: The Definitive Herbie Hancock. Since the Japanese edition of River already includes A Case of You, the Japanese get to buy all four of the bonus tracks on CD. Of course the whole thing is a major rip-off...
  7. Listened to some tracks on YouTube, ordered the upcoming CD reissue of this album. Really liked that recent Intents and Purposes reissue, btw!
  8. On the one hand I should be happy that this is coming out: 7 of these 19 albums have never been officially released on CD in the US or Europe! But I really wish they'd just put them out individually instead of releasing such box sets.
  9. Just six more days - the Generation Prog weekend is almost upon us! Anyone from this forum coming?
  10. In just four days, "The New Generation of Prog" became the most successful Progstravanza release yet. Thanks for your interest in all these young bands! Unfortunately, all this demand leads to problems with the Prog Sphere server. The site was down just a while ago. It now seems to be working again. In case this happens again, here's a direct download link for the latecomers: http://www.multiupload.com/QHF31Z1HCO All the best, Michael
  11. Hi there, when you're staging a prog festival for modern and somewhat obscure prog bands, you try to think of ways to make those bands more popular to maximize your audience. But of course there's nothing quite as persuasive as the actual music those bands are playing! I am very happy that thanks to the help of Prog Sphere and the bands and labels involved I was able to put together this awesome compilation: Free download here: http://www.prog-sphere.com/2011/08/31/a-progstravaganza-special-the-new-generation-of-prog Over 68 minutes of hand-picked modern classics (or at least they should be!) from some of my favorite modern prog bands. There is some mindblowing stuff here: "The Point Of No Return" from Haken's celebrated debut Aquarius (over 11 minutes!), Andromeda's incredible 17 minute epic "Veil of Illumination", Exivious' awesome "Waves Of Thought" - in my opinion it simply doesn't get any better! And of course I hope you'll also enjoy the track that my own band Relocator contributed - our fan favorite Aavishkar, another track that's over 10 minutes long! Enjoy and spread the word - or in this case, the link! All the best, Michael
  12. Good evening, last morning we got the news that despite all agreements, To-Mera would not be making the trip to Nuremberg after all. The reasons for that are “complex and no fault of your own,” says the band in its cancellation mail – in any case they’re nothing that they didn’t already know three months ago. We regret that this decision wasn’t made earlier, especially since we’ve already started selling tickets. Fortunately, we were able to secure a more than worthy replacement promptly: The band Subsignal was founded by Sieges Even members Arno Menses (vocals) and Markus Steffen (guitar) in 2007. Originally intended as a project, the whole thing developed into a real band after the demise of Sieges Even. The top-class band also features Roel van Helden (Drums, Sun Caged), Ralf Schwager (Bass, Dreamscape) und David Bertok (Keyboards, also Dreamscape) and can thus justifiably be called a prog supergroup. More information on the band can be found on the official Subsignal website: http://www.subsignalband.com And don't forget: The weekend hotel offers are only valid until August 25! All the best, Michael
  13. Hey everyone, being both a prog fan and a prog musician, I've been quite disappointed with the music scene in my region of Germany. Nürnberg doesn't get visited by too many prog bands, so if you're playing in a local band, you don't get many chances to reach a larger audience. After some deliberation, the solution to both of these problems became obvious: I would have to organize a prog event with awesome bands myself, thus bringing great music to Nürnberg while also giving our local prog bands a chance to play to a larger audience! I wanted to focus on younger bands who are shaping the prog scene right now, so you won't hear any 80s neo-prog or 70s classic prog at our festival. But I think the lineup has something to offer for many fans of modern prog: It's quite an exclusive collection of bands: Andromeda will play an exclusive German gig, their first in five years. Exivious will play their first German gig. To-Mera will play their first German gig, premiering material from their upcoming album. Haken will be playing material from their upcoming album. Advance copies of the CD should be available at the festival! And it's not every day you get to see my own band Relocator live (we've only played one gig with a complete lineup so far!) Most of you won't have heard of the other three bands, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the high level of our local artist! If you want to check out some of the bands, many allow you to listen to their complete albums on the net, check out this list of links: http://www.generation-prog.com/?page_id=238 I know it's probably quite far for many of you here, but I know there's interest in the festival from as far away as Norway and Romania and the first ticket we sold earlier today went to a guy in the UK, so it seems the combination of bands is tempting enough to make people consider a road trip! Anyway, for now we're only offering weekend tickets and two different weekend ticket+hotel packages. 40 Euro for a weekend ticket, 125 with two nights at a 4-star hotel or 180 for the double package (two tickets and two nights in a double room) at the same hotel, i.e., just 90 Euro per person! If you want to make the trip to Nürnberg, don't hesitate too long before placing your order, because the hotel deals are limited in number and time - the offer is valid only until August 25! For more information please visit the English information page for the festival: http://www.generation-prog.com/?page_id=461 Or jump straight to our online store: http://shop.generation-prog.com Hope to see many of you in the audience in September! All the best, Michael
  14. Hey everyone, we have just launched our new website with some nice new content: http://www.relocator-project.com/wp/ The Music page now features high-quality streams of our entire album (much better quality than on MySpace!), so if you haven't really heard our music yet, this is the best way to discover it. And for those of you who are already familiar with the album, we have added four demos of the songs as they were originally presented to the band by Stefan in 2004! Everything in those was performed and programmed by Stefan himself and it's quite interesting to hear how the tracks have developed since then. These can also be downloaded, btw! Here's a direct link to the Music page: http://www.relocator-project.com/wp/?page_id=10 All the best, Michael
  15. Hard to find detailed information about the exact contents of this box. I did find a tracklisting after quite a lot of searching and it seems the "Time Remembered" CD is missing for some reason, can someone confirm or deny this?
  16. Got my copy yesterday. What a wonderful reissue! I've never heard the music before, but so far I'd say this one definitely deserves the hype. Any chance of a legitimate reissue of that original Bill Dixon / Archie Shepp quartet album on Savoy in the future?
  17. Nice cover discussion, but what I'd like to know as the newbie that I still am: What's the music like?
  18. Love this box set, both for the originally released material and the bonus stuff.
  19. Got it today. The nine discs come in simple cardboard slipcases with minimal liner notes on the rear. No booklet or anything, but I really can't complain - 9 CDs for 30 Euro is almost ridiculous. And best of all, I liked what I heard so far. So thanks for this thread, JSangry!
  20. Now you've piqued my interest!
  21. This one is out on Japan already, but as usual Telarc are making us wait a bit longer - it's coming to Europe and the US in June. 1. Voice 9:13 2. Flashback 8:39 3. Now or Never 6:14 4. Temptation 7:49 5. Labyrinth 7:40 6. Desire 7:16 7. Haze 5:49 8. Delusion 7:43 9. Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8, Pathetique 5:13 I think it's nice to have Flashback (originally on the soundtrack CD for some Japanese TV show) and Labyrinth (originally on The Stanley Clarke Band feat. Hiromi) included on a regular Hiromi CD at last. I was really looking forward to seeing this new trio live later this year, but it seems Simon Phillips will be replaced by Steve Smith. I'd rather see the classic Tony Grey / Martin Valihora Hiromi trio...
  22. Definitely interested, really like the live Hubbard releases from this time.
  23. I got a reply from Universal Music Germany. According to them, Verve (in the US) is aware of the problem but does not plan any replacement discs. They want to make the track in question available as a download, though. I hope it's in CD quality, that'd be quite nice actually. I can only say good things about the customer service of Universal Music Germany at this point.
  24. I e-mailed them today, let's see if anyone replies.
  25. Fantastic, thanks! The Lester Young / Dexter Gordon stuff from disc 3 of this set was on my shopping list anyway and at this price (about 15 Euro including shipping to Germany!) this set is quite a bargain!
