  1. I wonder whether these singles will be included in the Baby Face Willette Mosaic Select.
  2. Got my Donaldson/Turrentine/Tolliver combo today. That and Lou's "Hot Dog" (with that cover art for the ages!), both Organissimo albums and Tony Grey's "... moving". As much as I had been looking forward to all that stuff it's the Tony Grey CD that has been stuck in my CD player all day so far. What an amazing hour of music from such a young talent (it's his solo debut!).
  3. I'm a huge prog fan (of both the classic and the modern, often metallish variety), so it's about time for me to contribute something to this thread. Let me just tell you that the new Dream Theater DVD "Score" is going to blow you away. It was filmed at their 20th Anniversary show in New York on April 1st this year (I was there myself) and featured a 30 piece orchestra backing the band for the second set and the encore (90 minutes). The first, band-only set goes for another 60 minutes, btw. The tracks arranged for band and orchestra are mostly new stuff, starting with the complete Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence suite (all 42 minutes of it) and ending with the title track of last year's album Octavarium (25+ minutes). And the encore is worth the price admission alone: The most kick-ass version of Metropolis imaginable. Coming out on August 25th in Europe and 29th in the US. I got a promo DVD for review purposes and watched it with a couple of friends who were both extremely impressed.
  4. Great!
  5. I ordered this from Early Records on Friday. Should be good. This will complete my Lou Donaldson small group recordings from the 50s until 1970. Once all those other orders I placed last week arrive, that is - including the Mosaic set.
  6. Interesting to see just this discussed here more than three years ago. Just last week I emailed Mosaic with a suggestion for a Baby Face Willette Select and besides the two Blue Note sessions and both Argo albums I also suggested adding Here 'tis to complete most people's Baby Face discographies - after all Grant's First Stand is easily available as an RVG. Today I got a reply simply stating "Already mapped out - probably in late '07." Now if there is an unreleased session that they could include instead of Here 'tis, that would be even better as I've just ordered a Japanese edition of that on Friday.
  7. Finally burned myself an mp3 compilation including the entire Elvin Jones mosaic set. All at 192 except for one track since I ran out of disc space by a couple of MB. That way I can take it with me to the office or play it in my car without having to carry 8 CDs. I've only been listening to my 2-on-1-CD of Puttin' it Together/The Ultimate so far. Those two sessions are awesome. Can't wait to explore the rest of the set!

    Aug 15th RVGs

Which store is that, please? Are the european RVGs now uncopyprotected (like the latest Connoisseur batch)? www.plattenladen.com I don't know about shipping to Luxembourg but since recently they even offer free shipping within Germany when you order stuff for €20 or more which is pretty incredible considering most of their prices to start with. I've ordered only once from them and that was a small haul (three discs) but everything went fine. This new order is for 14 discs (for just €95!!), hope it all works out. So far everything seems to be fine to me.
  9. Indeed, I wonder how long it'll take them to release this stuff (hopefully in unedited, un-overdubbed form).
  10. Since I'm just getting into the whole organ combo thing I figured I should give the band a try - after all I've been using their forum for quite a while now. I should have both discs in my hands next week (thanks to CDBaby) and if the rest of the albums sounds as good as the samples then I'm in for a treat. Gotta love the infectiously funky drumming in particular! Other titles in my order are Tony Grey's "Moving" (I LOVE that guy's bass playing on Hiromi's albums, absolutely beautiful stuff) and a single by the obscure but awesome swedish pop band Pineforest Crunch that includes a really interesting, very "crunchy" take on Aqua's "Barbie Girl".
  11. There's a George Coleman quartet LP that I'd like to see issued on CD. Musically it's a companion album to "Playing Changes": George Coleman - "Live" Ronnie Scott’s Club, London, April 19-20, 1979 George Coleman-tsx; Hilton Ruiz-p; Ray Drummond-b; Billy Higgins-d [a] Blues Inside Out George Coleman 11:30 Walking [sic] Carpenter 15:12 [c] Stella By Starlight Washington-Young 21:35 PYE LP N 121 One of the most underrated tenors out there. I love all of his later stuff.

    Aug 15th RVGs

Just ordered those four from a German store that's selling them for €6.29 each. Already have the Byrd/Pepper Mosaic, otherwise I'd grab that album as well. Great batch! And the September one looks just as good!

    Aug 15th RVGs

Check out the new cover for Another Workout: I like it better than the original (which I sold a few months ago in preperation for the RVG).
  14. EDIT: It seems the subtitle of the thread has disappeared during some forum software update. I think it was something along the lines of "which albums were part of this series?" So far I have these: James Clay & David "Fathead" Newman - The Sound of Wide Open Spaces Don Wilkerson - The Texas Twister The Mangione Brothers Sextet - The Jazz Brothers Clifford Jordan - Spellbound
  15. The replies in my JRVG thread made me a bit nervous, can someone comment on the sound quality of the 1500 Yen reissue of Lou Donaldson - Here 'tis? Thanks!
  16. Time for me to get off the fence and finally order the Donaldson AND the Turrentine set. And damn, throw some Tolliver in there as well! Can't wait to hear all this stuff!
  17. No! Don't say things like that!
  18. Thanks! I'm going to order some of the more recent 1500 Yen remasters later this week then. I just want to avoid those weird-sounding JRVGs at all costs (even if some of them sound good it's hard to keep track which ones are problematic).
  19. Or to put it another way: If I buy a Japanese jewelcase version can I be sure not to get a JRVG?
  20. Cool, thanks! I got rid of my Japanese edition (no bonus tracks) a couple of months ago (for various reasons), good to see it turned out to be a smart move after all.
  21. I read this is supposed to have a bonus track. Too bad there's no tracklisting available yet. Does anyone know anything about this?
  22. Yeah, I definitely mean the cymbals. They're overpowering most of the rest of the music at times, very hard to listen to (especially on a stereo with weak bass like in my car).
  23. I'll be ordering some stuff from Early Records later this week and I'll probably pick up some of the Clifford Jordan Blue Notes. I already have the US RVG of Blowing in from Chicago and I think it sounds horrible (way too trebly) - and I'm *FAR* from an audiophile. Can anyone tell me if the current 1500 Yen edition available in Japan sounds considerably better?
  24. 500 012 ... looks like it's gone If we're talking about the Freelance set, there's still a copy left in the bargain bin of the Nuremberg store...
