  1. Oh yeah, the lone Sam Rivers BN date that wasn't issued individually yet. Good choice! Great album, too!
  2. How about Bobby Hutcherson - Live at Montreux? Can't seem to find that old CD edition anywhere. Same with Total Eclipse (which I guess will rather become an RVG at some point - hopefully soon).
  3. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that one - the only McLean BN I still need on CD.
  4. That's true. I have the old Clubhouse CD and a Japanese Undercurrent disc but if I didn't, I'd be grabbing those RVGs right away. Maybe I'll even sell my old discs until they are released (same goes for the Johnny Griffin and the Duke Pearson).
  5. Thanks for the detailed info on the booklet! The ZYX booklet is the size of a CD jewel case, 12 pages in b/w. These seem to be identical (except for the lack of color and the page size) None of that is included in the ZYX booklet. I really despise ZYX for doing this. I had no idea there were other editions of these box sets out there when I bought the small ones. The Miles booklet they did at least had the session descriptions but the Trane one seems reduced to an absolute minimum. One of these days I'll have to find a way to get my hands on one of those big US booklets (or at least scans thereof).
  6. Thanks for posting these, Reinier! I would've bought those three as used CDs (old editions) within two weeks if you hadn't posted the list. Now I'm gonna wait for the RVGs!
  7. I agree, these two would be great to have on CD. I'll probably come up with more but one "trainwreck" session I'd love to hear would be the Grant Green session with John Gilmore and Duke Pearson. Also that one unissed Kenny Dorham session (forgot the details) sounds interesting.
  8. In my case I bought the RVGs some time ago thinking they were (as usual) the way to go only to discover that I missed out on half a dozen tracks that were only on the old CD editions. Some people had been complaining that the old CDs had a different track listing/order than the LPs and Cuscuna got so annoyed with them that he made the RVGs almost straight copies of the LPs, leaving off most of the extra tracks that were added to the old CDs. I have ordered copies of those old CDs since but no matter what I do with the RVGs now (sell them or keep them for the better sound), this will end up unnecessarily costing me a few bucks. I wouldn't mind the whole re-sequencing of the material as much if I could just buy a third RVG disc with those missing tracks (and better sound) but even five years after the Sermon/House Party reissues Blue Note still hasn't bothered to put those extra tracks back out on the market.
  9. Sounds great! I'd buy both of those without thinking about it twice.
  10. That and the Jimmy Smith fiasco leads me to believe Michael doesn't have the thickest skin, eh? But then the last RVG and Conn batches were announced here months in advance after all.
  11. Wouldn't it be in Blue Note's interest to announce these things early? After all every used CD that people buy now could result in one RVG or Conn less sold when those new reissues hit the street.
  12. Reinier already told us that the Compulsion RVG is due next March and Louis Smith's Smithville as a Connoisseur Edition will follow in June. It would be great to know what else is coming out soon to avoid unnecessarily paying over-inflated prices for OOP discs in the next months.
  13. Thanks, I'll be grabbing these soon!
  14. I knew I was missing out on something when I saw that small ZYX booklet. The discographical data (even including small b/w covers of all LPs) is all there but there's no essay or commentary on the sessions. What's the big US booklet like exactly?
  15. Somehow I missed this thread until now. Great choice(s) there! I have to admit that I had owned Go! for years (and actually sold it at one point) before finally "getting" it. A few months ago I was listening to a lot of George Cables and ended up discovering both Art Pepper and late Dexter in the process - Manhattan Symphonie was the Dexter album that got me into his music big time. Right now I'm just missing very few individual sessions and the Steeplechase stuff (which is a lot, but I don't want to buy any individual discs - still trying to find that box set for a good price).
  16. Just found this message in the mail: Fine with me considering that the alternative would be shelling out $30 for the disc and shipping.
  17. Tell them that if you haven't already. I told them that "anything below 160 isn't nearly acceptable" but 192k or higher would be even better of course.
  18. This wouldn't have anything to do with me complaining about the supposed bitrate in advance?
  19. They're really trying hard NOT to sell this thing to me...
  20. After all the Collectables bashing I must give them props for getting it right at least once: Elvin Jones' consecutive albums "And Then Again" and "Midnight Walk" on one CD. All tracks present. Got it last week. I must admit I haven't really listened to it yet, but it seems like a good combo to me.
  21. At $10 this sounds like a decent offer actually. I'd like to buy this and support Sonny directly but the CD would cost me ridiculous $29.95 including shipping to Germany... It says they're selling mp3s, so that means no DRM crap - good. Has anyone grabbed those files already? What bitrate did they use?

    Aug 15th RVGs

They could easily use the US masters. Not that I think they will - but it's an option.
  23. April 21, 1967: McCoy Tyner Quartet Joe Henderson (ts) McCoy Tyner (p) Ron Carter (b) Elvin Jones (d) Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, April 21, 1967 1873 tk.1 Contemplation Blue Note BLP 4264 1874 tk.6 Passion Dance - 1875 tk.7 Blues on the Corner - 1876 tk.12 Four by Five - 1877 tk.18 Search for Peace - * McCoy Tyner - The Real McCoy (Blue Note BLP 4264) Now we know what they used as the template for the Midnight Blue booklet and tray insert.
  24. Maybe that's why BN gave a different date for the RVG. "That can't be true, there was a Prestige session over at Rudy's on the same day. I randomly suggest going with an April 21, 1967 date instead!".
  25. If there are indeed nine Burrell tracks that could be included in a Conn edition of this - as indicated by Mike Casinghino in this old thread - I'm pretty sure that Cuscuna will just opt for a single disc Connoisseur Edition release at some point. All the other Burrell Blue Note albums are easily available on CD at the moment, after all.
