  1. Another idiotic box set that offers too little for the real fan and collector and way too much (at too high a price) for someone looking for an introduction to a band's music. All those suits who come up with these things should be tarred, feathered and fired.

    Bobby Hutcherson

It's a great album, about time I played it again. After finally getting my hands on Total Eclipse today the only Hutcherson BN disc that I still need is Live At Montreux - and despite looking for it all over amazon and eBay for weeks I still haven't found a copy for a decent price. The best offer right now is a ridiculous $75 from an amazon marketplace seller...
  3. I have pre-ordered this disc from the German amazon store. Any news on CD reissues of the other Impact album and the Paper Man session?
  4. My old edition of "Houseparty" arrived today. Woohoo! Btw, shouldn't it really be spelled "House Party"?

    Prestige RVGs

What's wrong with the old Chicken Shack/Midnight Special discs? Yeah, I don't get that either. I can't find that Mosaic box anywhere for a halfway decent price and they start reissuing the material with the least interesting of the discs - annoying!
  6. That album is easily available and sounds good to my ears, why issue it again?
  7. Just listening to the Stanley Turrentine set. I re-equalized the first disc, removing some of the harsh treble. To my ears it sounds just about fine now. And the music itself is GREAT!
  8. That's some good stuff there.
  9. Yes, I would prefer that solution. Put the one Jackie Mac track on 4, 5 and 6 and replace it with the omitted Mobley track "Alternating Current" on a re-assembled "Messages" two-fer. Mwahaha!
  10. It is. I do feel that we have actually reached some sort of consensus on a certain number of titles which is great. I wonder how much that'll influence Michael Cuscuna in his choices for the next Conn batch.
  11. I can make most of those myself from the original CDs, no need to spend more money on the same old music.
  12. I just sent you an email regarding the Joe Henderson Milestone box.
  13. You're right, my mistake. These two are the same but the one on the Blakey album is a different tune.
  14. Well, he'd better change his mind, or else... or else I'll end up buying Natural Essence without those bonus tracks! That'll teach him!
  15. After some research I feel the need to support this request! Come on, Cuscuna!
  16. He had already recorded it at his first Blue Note session in 1952 and recorded it again in 1959 ( for the "The Time Is Right" album) and once more in 1984 for a live album on Timeless Records.
  17. It's a good thing I got that Elvin Jones set for a good price two months ago. It's great stuff, nobody interested in his music should miss this IMO.
  18. Probably not. But personally I'm glad that these matters don't concern me in the least.
  19. Back to the Donaldson Argo/Cadet box set... As I said I have suggested doing something like this to Mosaic. They now told me they won't do it for the simple reason that Verve themselves have plans for something like that next year.
  20. My used copy of The Sermon (the 1987 version) arrived today. Those extra tracks are wonderful! The old House Party CD should be here within the next few days, too.
  21. I could be wrong but I think none of Duke Pearson's early BN albums have been released on CD outside of Japan, right? How about a combo including Profile and Tender Feelin's? Those should fit one one CD.
  22. Sorry, you're Late!
  23. Hi there, this is my first AOTW post. Looking through the previous AOTW threads I was quite surprised that there's never been an Art Blakey discussion here before - it's about time that changed! It would be hard to pick one of the many excellent Jazz Messengers albums, so I decided to avoid having to make that choice and pick a true classic from earlier times instead. Recorded live at Birdland, NYC, February 21, 1954 Clifford Brown (tp) Lou Donaldson (as) Horace Silver (p) Curly Russell (b) Art Blakey (d) Doesn't get much better than that! I'll post my more detailed thoughts on these two CDs - or three LPs if you will - later. It's not quite September 3 yet, but this way you can reacquaint yourselves with this music before the discussion starts. All the Best, Michael (Kyo)
  24. The Rivers album has been on CD before (although it's hard to find these days). I hope they reissue A New Conception (never released as an individual CD) first.
