  1. Ah, right - it's just one of those hard to find BNs from the 80s/early 90s. I'm still worried how long (and how much money) it'll probably take for me to gather all those Stanley Turrentine Blue Note albums from that time...
  2. That's the only Tony Williams album on Blue Note that's not out on CD yet, right? I'm a bit saddened that Louis Smith's Smithville did not make the final list after all. Maybe next time. I really like "Here Comes Louis Smith", the band on Smithville is great and even though it's already out in Japan there are two leftover tracks from that session that should be on the Connoisseur disc.
  3. If it is indeed a 2CD set I'll be getting this ASAP for sure. Just for the record, the Lou Blackburn album was on a single disc (despite the 80+ minute playing time).
  4. To summarize the discussion: I should be glad they didn't include the tune, right?
  5. Yesterday I completed my collection of Mobley-led albums. Woohoo! I've been listening to Reach Out for a couple of hours now and I like it! I'd certainly call it underrated based on my enjoyment of the album so far.
  6. I like most of the Keepnews-produced material and can't wait to finally get my hands on Power to the People - it's about damn time that album got issued on CD individually!
  7. That does it! After reading this thread I decided to use some of my eMusic downloads this month on Don Patterson material. I got all the tracks with Booker Ervin (a personal favorite of mine) plus Boppin' and Burnin' and the Opus the Don material from Dem New York Dues for a start. Downloading right now, can't wait to hear it all! I also realized that I already have the early Eric Kloss material that Patterson played on, need to give that another listen. Did the track People from the May 12, 1964 session ever surface on CD? For some reason it's not on the Legends of Acid Jazz CD that includes all the other tunes from that session, even though the disc is only 63 minutes long. While I was at it I also grabbed Jack McDuff's The Honeydripper and The New Boss Guitar of George Benson, more organ goodness!
  8. I just got my copy of this, turns out I ordered the Rhino edition instead of the Wounded Bird one. Which is not a bad thing, it's just that I had ordered the other Wounded Bird Jimmy Smith reissue from the 80s (Keep on Comin') at the same time - and it turns out the Rhino edition of Off The Top includes most of the tracks from Keep on Comin' (all except the piano medley).
  9. Seriously. Just yesterday I was annoyed by some of his original liner notes for some Blue Note RVGs, but at least in that case you always get a decent "A New Look at ..." essay to go with them. I saw that Gitler was doing the new liner notes for the Prestige RVGs, read one of them (bad as ever!) and thought "there goes one reason to buy a reissue of previously available material".
  10. As well as The Creeper session. Or did that see Japanese release? You are both correct. I just fear that both of those will be released individually soon, thus reducing the value of the mosaic set.
  11. Some others that haven't been mentioned yet: Stanley Turrentine - Sugar Dexter Gordon - Generation Charles Earland - Leaving This Planet McCoy Tyner - 4x4
  12. I'm still waiting for a Baby Face Willette Mosaic Select. Guess I'll grab that 2-LPs-on-1-CD Argo collection in the meantime.
  13. I'll be getting the Andrew Hill and Art Taylor discs for sure. Still undecided whether to sell my Byrd/Adams Mosaic set and go for the individual albums or not. I have the McLean and Gordon albums on CD and will probably not upgrade them. Nice batch though, especially since that Clubhouse CD wasn't that easy to find for a decent price.
  14. Don't care much for those compilations but I will be buying Super Blue for sure.
  15. I got this box set today and two mistakes make me wonder if I got a bootleg or if this is just another case of the infamous Blue Note Quality Control . The cardboard sleeve's front and the booklet's cover say "Eddy Kotick" while it's Teddy everywhere else and on the side of the cardboard box it says "The Complete Blue Note Recording" (what, just one?). Everything else about this set seems legit, I just haven't found any mention of this "Eddy Kotick" mistake anywhere on the web. All the pictures of the front cover I've found on the web have Kotick's name correct.
  16. Good selection indeed. Two tracks from Crescent, woohoo!
  17. Thanks for the information! Of course this is still quite funny, meaning that I'd have to buy a two-disc set (a Japanese import at that!) plus The Man I Love just for that one track to get it all. Oh well, still beats buying three discs and still coming up one track short, eh?
  18. Good, that leaves me enough time to get rid of my individual CD editions of Big Fun, On the Corner and Get Up With It. Sounds very interesting!
  19. My downloads refreshed today and I already used up all 90 of them. It's amazing how much music you can get for under 20,- Euros. Art Farmer/Benny Golson Jazztet - Real Time Bobby Timmons - Workin' Out (just the session with Johnny Lytle, have the rest on CD) Gene Ammons - Angel Eyes Gene Ammons/Sonny Stitt/Jack McDuff - Soul Summit Jack McDuff/Gene Ammons - Brother Jack meets The Boss Jack McDuff - Brother Jack ("Goodnight, It's Time To Go" session only) Jack McDuff - Crash! featuring Kenny Burrell Jack McDuff - The Last Goodun' ("On With It!" session and the track "9:20 Special" only) James Clay - A Double Dose of Soul Johnny Lytle - Nice and Easy Kenny Dorham - Blue Spring Philly Joe Jones - Blues for Dracula (VBR mp3s at only around 128k!) Plus three individual tracks to complete some sessions I have on CD otherwise: Bobby Timmons - People (from Workin' Out -> Little Barefoot Soul) Elmo Hope - Moe, Jr. (master take from Homecoming) John Coltrane/Tommy Flanagan/Kenny Burrell/Idrees Sulieman - How Long Has This Been Going On? (from The Cats) By the way, beware: The "Untitled Track" at the end of "Brother Jack meets The Boss" is actually "Ballad for Baby", found on at least two other CDs of McDuff's.
  20. If they got rid of that DRM crap, I'd be buying a lot more music in file form. I'm a happy eMusic user, but I wouldn't touch anything from the iTunes store for that reason.
  21. Used to have "You Leave Me Breathless" on lp and never bought "Live Vol 2" 'cause the title track was missing and (I assumed) they duplicated Harvey and Wee from "The Man I Love". I may reconsider if the last two mentioned are alternates. Oops, I didn't even consider the chance that these two might indeed be the same takes. Turns out they are. The sound is a bit different though, that's why I didn't notice that when I quickly "scanned" them yesterday. That makes things even worse!
  22. There are at least three CDs taken from Johnny Griffin's performances at Copenhagen's Jazzhus Montmartre on March 30/31 1967. "The Man I Love" on Black Lion and two volumes of "Live at the Jazzhus Montmartre" on da music. www.jazzdisco.org lists the following LP releases: Johnny Griffin Quartet Johnny Griffin (ts) Kenny Drew (p) Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen (b) Albert "Tootie" Heath (d) Copenhagen, Denmark, March 30 & 31, 1967 The Man I Love Polydor (G) 583 734 Hush-A-Bye - Blues for Harvey - The Masquerade Is Over - Sophisticated Lady - Wee - All the Things You Are Trio (J) PA 9737 A Night in Tunisia - Edacity Like You - Indiana - Rhythm-A-Ning - Rhythm-A-Ning Black Lion (E) BLP 30134 Old Folks - Wee - You Leave Me Breathless - Leave Me Alone Blues - * Johnny Griffin - The Man I Love (Polydor (G) 583 734) -> CD: same, BLCD 760107 * Johnny Griffin - A Night in Tunisia (Trio (J) PA 9737) -> CD: Johnny Griffin - Live at the Jazzhus Montmartre Vol. 1 - da music 874723-2 * Johnny Griffin - You Leave Me Breathless (Black Lion (E) BLP 30134) -> CD: similar to Johnny Griffin - Live at the Jazzhus Montmartre Vol. 2 - da music 874724-2 On those three CDs named above I have all of those tracks plus additional takes of Blues for Harvey and Wee (Theme) on Live Vol. 2. Mysteriously absent is the title track of the You Leave Me Breathless LP. The track lengths of the remaining pieces seem to match the LP otherwise. Can someone shed some light on this? Has this track ever been released on CD?
  23. You might want to wait until the McCoy Tyner Mosaic Select is released in the coming week(s?) as this album will be included.
  24. I like all of their stuff after Signify. I can also recommend the Blackfield album, can't wait to hear the second one. It's really like a more pop-oriented version of Porcupine Tree with some great songs.
