  1. All of that session is on the "'58 Miles feat. Stella by Starlight" CD.
  2. All sold! To some obviously jazz-starved guy in Stuttgart who grabbed everything but the one disc that mikeweil got just in time!
  3. I downloaded this from eMusic a couple of weeks ago, maybe I should actually listen to it now...
  4. Good timing for me, I'll be grabbing the Max Roach set soon. I just sold all my individual Max Roach albums contained in that set and I've been meaning to order some Selects for a long time now.
  5. I highly recommend that album. Got it yesterday and it's fantastic, one of my favorite Savoy discs so far.
  6. Yes. I've been thinking about buying the Miles/Trane set but I never found a reason to do that. As you mentioned it doesn't contain all of "Prince" and everything in the box is easily available on individual discs (unlike the Second Quintet box).
  7. While researching all kinds of Savoy releases I came upon this announced but still unreleased compilation ("The First Savoy Sessions"?). I emailed Savoy Jazz about this last week, still no reply. Maybe if we really get on their nerves about it they'll... well, at least tell us to shut up or something! I also told them that I'd be happy to see Donald Byrd's Long Green and the Byrd/Jenkins album Star Eyes released on CD (both of those are extended versions of earlier LPs and only those came out on CD, each missing a track from the respective session).
  8. That's good, just too bad that you can only check those in stores. There's still just the one version of Blue Spirits listed on amazon.de for example.
  9. I like all of Hubbard's CTI albums.
  10. EDIT: All the CDs have been sold! Eric Dolphy - Outward Bound (Digipack) Eric Dolphy - At the Five Spot Vol. 1 (Digipack) Eric Dolphy - At the Five Spot Vol. 2 (Digipack) Mal Waldron with Eric Dolphy and Booker Ervin - The Quest Ron Carter with Eric Dolphy & Mal Waldron - Where? Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis Big Band - Trane Whistle Joe Henderson Quintet at The Lighthouse Joe Henderson feat. Alice Coltrane - The Elements (Digipack) Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section Art Pepper - Thursday Night at the Village Vanguard Art Pepper - Winter Moon (Digipack) Booker Ervin - The Blues Book Booker Ervin - The Freedom Book SOLD! Max Roach - Max Roach Plus Four Max Roach - Jazz in Three-Quarter Time (Digipack) Max Roach - The Max Roach 4 plays Charlie Parker Max Roach - Max Chet Baker Quartet - Russ Freeman, Chet Baker (Pacific Jazz 55453, red cover - still sealed!) Dexter Gordon - Live at Carnegie Hall (still sealed!) All CDs are €6,- each with two exceptions: €8 for the Henderson Lighthouse disc €4 for the Dolphy Five Spot Vol. 1 as it suffered from a slight manufacturing error that left no opening to put the booklet. After an unsuccessful attempt to fix that I replaced the inner page of the digipack with plain white paper. I just checked all the discs and most of them are as good as new, just two or three have minor scuffs (but of course still play fine). If you have any specific questions don't hesitate to contact me. Shipping costs will be what they will be - I won't charge you more than what I'll have to pay myself. Hope that's alright, I simply don't know how high (international) shipping charges would be right now! EDIT: Marked sold items.
  11. Two albums - isn't that cheating? I'll play both of those today. . . . Right after I'm through with the Eric Dolphy Complete Prestige box that I got yesterday!

    Steeplechase

I never understood why they dared to charge their usual high prices for their CDs. So many mistakes all over the few Steeplechase releases I own... Andrew Hill - Invitation With Chris White on bass and drummer Art Lewis on... well, also bass - at least according to the tray card. Andrew Hill - Divine Revelation It's not quite clear which of the two takes of July 10th is the master and which is just a bonus track (I can guess that the last track is probably a bonus, but it doesn't say so anywhere). And my favorite mistake has to be ANDREW HILL QUINTET all over the ugly cover when there's only four people playing on the album (and it says "quartet" everywhere else).
  13. Does the version available on iTunes sound as odd as the old CD suppesedly does? I've never heard it, waiting for a remaster that doesn't have this problem.
  14. Sounds good to me. Quite a bit of unreleased stuff in this batch, cool!
  15. I was thinking the same while putting together this compilation. The reason why there's nothing from the 70s and 80s is simply because I have little jazz from that time and I wanted to include many tunes that became standards.
  16. Why the Concord bashing? They just released Power To The People on a single CD - something that Fantasy never did (and they had enough time, that's for sure). Maybe if it does well there'll be more Henderson reissues like it.
  17. Thanks! I now found out that amazon.com has it listed as a Hank Jones album.
  18. Some things I noticed: This set does not include But Not For Me from the Meets the Detroit Jazzmen session (it's only been on a pretty rare CD reissue, but I really like this version - it's a duo recording with just the two Kennys). I've Lost Your Love from the Telefunken Blues session isn't present either (it was originally released on Meet Milt Jackson). And Kenny Clarke - The Trio from 1955 (with Hank Jones and Wendell Marshall) isn't included at all. That one has never been on CD either, correct?
  19. If someone gets this set, please post something regarding the sound quality, especially for Klook's Clique.
  20. For $15 I'd buy it, too!
  21. Hmmm... I still don't have Telefunken Blues... Has Klook's Clique ever been out on CD before?
  22. I came very close to adding some Mingus. Although it probably would've been Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (since he knows a modern version of it). Next time!
  23. My personal experience is that most of the popular songs that became jazz standards aren't really well-known here in Europe, certainly not among people around my age (nearing 30). With the exception of some Beatles tunes I really doubt my friend would recognize any of them except Summertime and possibly Autumn Leaves. Having said that, I'm certainly planning to do a compilation of some popular standards some other time. I just feel that when you don't know the original songs (and possibly even lyrics), they are harder to follow than a typical jazz tune, especially for someone new to jazz.
  24. I've been meaning to create a compilation CD for a friend who's not into jazz yet but willing to give it a try. I wanted to pick all original compositions from some of my favorite (and also important) players. With few exceptions I picked the originally recorded studio versions. Here's what I came up with: Milestones (1958 version) Little B's Poem This I Dig of You Ceora Blue Rondo A La Turk In A Sentimental Mood (from Duke Ellington & John Coltrane) Song For My Father Maiden Voyage Recorda Me Naima Well, You Needn't (from Monk's Music) Waltz For Debby What do you think? If he likes this disc I'll probably put together a more adventurous set next. This one's supposed to be easy to get into and follow. I hope all of you know the original artists/composers for those tracks.
  25. Bump... I'm just listening to this box (which I got used for €70,-) and I really can't say which of the included albums I dig most - it's all good, and I mean *really* good! It's funny that I ended up getting the box at the same time that Power to the People was finally issued as an individual CD by Concord - I'm sure the box wouldn't have been nearly as interesting if I'd owned that album before, but I had already made up my mind to go for the box when the Keepnews Collection stuff came out. And in retrospect I'm glad I did - there's just sooo much great music to explore here! And I really like the Flora Purim tracks, will certainly be getting more of her Milestone material from eMusic soon!
