    Kenny Burrell

Just got the CD, thanks for pointing out this little problem - it's easily fixed with Audacity. :)
  2. Amazon.de lists all these for November 20, 2015: Three for Shepp / Vista Marion Brown 1984 / The Golden Flute Yusef Lateef Tauhid / Jewels of Thought Pharoah Sanders Thembi / Black Unity Pharoah Sanders Fort Yawuh / Treasure Island | Double CD Keith Jarrett Death and the Flower / Backhand Keith Jarrett New Grass / Music Is the Healing Force Albert Ayler Gypsy '66 / Spellbinder Gabor Szabo Out of the Cool / Into the Hot Gil Evans Passin' Thru / Man of Two Worlds Chico Hamilton Things Have Got to Change / The Cry of My People Archie Shepp Tranquility / Outertimeinnerspace Ahmad Jamal Some interesting stuff there! I've been waiting for 1984, Vista and Things Have Got to Change in particular.
  3. Oh, a Dexter Gordon release with George Cables that I've missed so far? Thanks for mentioning it!
  4. I own the 2nd side of this album twice - once on the actual Ode to 52nd Street CD edition and once on the Soulero CD (which omits the Suite for Guitar and Orchestra from the first side, but includes all of the album The Tender Gender instead). While comparing the two sound-wise I realized that the tracks I Want My Baby Back and Blues Fuse are switched. Since both are original compositions that don't seem to have been recorded at any other time, I'm not sure which track goes with which title. The liner notes don't help here as both are just briefly mentioned in the same sentence, rather emphasizing their similarities than any differences. The original LP release list Blues Fuse as a 3:00 track (a single that included it does the same), with I Want My Baby Back being the longer of the two at 3:15. This matches the track names and (more or less) playing times of the Soulero CD, where I Want My Baby Back (the track starting off with a drum intro) is 3:25 long. On the Ode to 52nd Street CD, the same piece (the one with the drum intro) is included as track 9, Blues Fuse. And track 5, I Want My Baby Back, in turn, is the piece that's referred to as Blues Fuse (track 9) on the Soulero CD. Going by the music alone, the track listing on the Ode to 52nd Street CD seems to make more sense, even though it doesn't match the track lengths of the original LP - track 9, Blues Fuse, is a bluesy track here (the one with a drum intro), while the other track in question is pretty up-beat and melodic, not bluesy. So could it be that the CD reissue of Ode to 52nd Street is the first time they got the track titles assigned correctly? Or were they assigned that way on the LP already (I don't have a copy to check) and it was just the playing times that were switched? Was this maybe what led to a mix-up of the tracks for the Soulero release?
  5. Thanks, that looks quite interesting - only have the first CD included in the set. And it's fairly cheap for an 8-disc set, too!

Yeah, it's always frustrating to see the PD labels doing better (yet mostly with questionable sources) than the official holders of the rights to these albums. So many cases these days, especially with box sets of more obscure artists where the original CDs can even be hard to find.

    Kenny Burrell

I just found out that Essential Jazz Classics have released a "Complete Edition" of Kenny Burrell's A Night at the Vanguard in 2012: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B007KLY8DC/ It includes a total of 14 tracks, compiling everything that's ever been out on LP from this concert (according to jazzdisco.org), unlike the official Verve release that only has 10. Has anyone heard this version? What's the sound like?
  8. That would be nice to have on CD. There's also some earlier Bill Barron material that Savoy dropped the ball on that I'd love to see reissued officially with good sound: The second half of Modern Windows and Hot Line. Preferrably combined on a single CD. Cause when Savoy put out a CD release called "Modern Windows Suite", they only included the actual suite, not the rest of the album (the remainder of the CD consisted of the earlier The Tenor Stylings of Bill Barron album). Would be really nice to have a companion release with the rest of his '60s Savoy sessions.
  9. Really looking forward to the Farrell set, been trying to find an affordable CD copy of that one for years.

    Jimmy Giuffre

There's an Avid set that combines three albums (plus some bonus tracks) on two CDs: Ad Lib 7 Pieces The Jimmy Giuffre Quartet in Person + 3 tracks from The Four Brothers Sound I guess these are needle drops? I'm not aware of any official CD releases of this material (if there were any, please let me know).
  11. I've put together yet another Generation Prog Festival and I'd say we've reached a new level this time around - just check out the line-up: - The Aristocrats (USA/UK) - Leprous (NOR) - Panzerballett (GER/AT) - Subsignal (GER) - Circle of Illusion (AT) - Alessandro Bertoni Keystone Quartet (USA/UK/NL/GER) - Disperse (PL) - Counter-World Experience (GER) The festival will take place at Luise - The Cultfactory in Nürnberg, Germany, on November 20+21. Lots of special things about this - it'll probably be an album release gig for both Panzerballett and Counter-World Experience, it's the first time Circle of Illusion will play live outside of Austria (they'll be performing their entire epic concept album Jeremias) and obviously there's that very special Alessandro Bertoni Keystone Quartet, which features the Relocator rhythm section (Frank Tinge on drums and yours truly on bass) and the fantastic Tom MacLean (To-Mera, ex-Haken) on guitar! Are we going to see any of you guys at the show? More information here: www.generation-prog.com
  12. I wouldn't mind getting a Gene Ammons set at last. Or a Yusef Lateef one.
  13. Thanks for the recommendation! Just ordered a very affordable used copy from priceminister.com.
  14. Most welcome news. Next stop: Volume 4 - the Agharta / Pangaea era.
  15. I would love to see an early Yusef Lateef box with all the Prestige/New Jazz/Moodsville, Riverside and Milestone material in one place.
  16. I've been eyeing this set, any comments?
  17. 56 CDs of Aldo Ciccolini's EMI recordings, currently just 43.99 at amazon.de: http://www.amazon.de/Complete-EMI-Recordings-1950-91/dp/B002SV3KOM/
  18. Here's a crazy bargain - 28 CDs of Vivaldi recordings from Decca Records: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B004I7MCHA I paid something like 26 Euro *SHIPPED* from Canada! Full track listing here: http://www.deccaclassics.com/de/cat/single?PRODUCT_NR=4782747
  19. Yes, please!
  20. Sounds like a good set. Too bad I already have Glass Bead Games, In The World, Zodiac and Izipho Zam on individual CDs. :/
  21. Bump as this album will be released this Monday! For a limited time you can now hear Keystone in its entirety on Progify - check it out! https://www.progify.com/release/alessandro-bertoni-keystone/
  22. Same reason why people would sell music on iTunes: Because that's where people buy stuff these days.
  23. Hi everyone, as you may know, I launched a little record label called Generation Prog Records last year - our first release was Coma Ghosts by Effloresce, an atmospheric progressive metal album which came out in February 2012. It's been a while since, so I'm really excited that we will release two great new prog albums this September. And since one of them has a strong fusion component, I imagine it might find a few fans around here! Keystone is the solo debut from Italian keyboardist Alessandro Bertoni, currently based in Los Angeles. Alessandro made his recording debut with his earlier band Aphelion, who released the album Franticode in 2008. That CD was mixed by keyboard star Derek Sherinian - and Alessandro's new album sees that collaboration continue. The credits for Keystone should give you a pretty good idea of the level of quality you can expect: Music by Alessandro Bertoni Produced by Derek Sherinian Alessandro Bertoni - keys Brett Garsed - guitar Ric Fierabracci - bass Virgil Donati - drums But don't just take my word for it, we've put together a nice album trailer with lots of music! And here's a very cool video of Brett Garsed recording one of his fantastic solos: The album will be released September 9, 2013. It can be pre-ordered here: http://www.generation-prog.com/?page_id=1172&lang=en Until then, enjoy these samples! All the best, Michael
  24. I haven't checked the other new titles, but discplus.ch has the cover for this one, which as usual lists all the albums contained in the box:
