  1. Very nice. I've been wanting to buy some of these on CD for quite some time, with prices below 9 Euro per disc I finally will. And it's great to be able to sample more obscure stuff via eMusic now, too!

    Jazz In Paris

On a related note, I'm having a hard time finding a copy of the CD Bebop in Paris Vol. 1. Who can help?
  3. Did you get to hear it by now? I'm still on the fence about this one.
  4. On the Grachan Moncur Mosaic Select. Which should be out of print by the time this RVG disc is released (now listed in the "last chance" section). Looking forward to the Leo Parker RVG. I already have some edition of all the other titles in this batch, though.

    Victor Feldman

He's also on the quite enjoyable Art'n'Zoot from 1981, some good Art Pepper on this one if I remember correctly.
  6. Why not? I'm still hoping that one day we'll see a complete release of this session (without the later overdubs): 660202 JOHN COLTRANE SEXTET: Personnel: John Coltrane, tenor saxophone, bass clarinet; Pharoah Sanders, tenor saxophone, flute, piccolo; Alice Coltrane, piano; Jimmy Garrison, bass; Rashied Ali, drums; Ray Appleton, perc Location: 'Coast Records', San Francisco CA Date: 2/2/66 Engineer: Rudy Hill a. "Manifestation" (J. Coltrane) 11:44 CRC AU4950; Imp AS9223-2 more b. "Reverend King" (J. Coltrane) 10:45 CRC AU4950 more c. "Peace On Earth" (J. Coltrane) 9:03 Imp A9225, IA9360 more d. "Leo" (J. Coltrane) 10:08 Imp A9225 more 660202. Coltrane and other group members chant "Ah-um-mani-padme-hum" to open and close 660202b. The titles listed here were originally recorded by the six musicians listed here; at that session Alice Coltrane played only piano; and Jimmy Garrison was the only bassist. In 1972 Ms. Coltrane overdubbed herself on vibes and organ, added a string section, and substituted bass parts by Charlie Haden for Garrison's original parts on two titles: 660202c "Peace On Earth" and 660202d "Leo". These overdubbed versions were issued on "Infinity" Imp A9225. An unaltered version of "Peace On Earth" (660202c) was later released on "Jupiter Variation" Imp IA9360. As a further complication to an already complicated session, there is persuasive evidence that both 660202a "Manifestation" and 660202d "Leo" are excerpts edited from a single extended recording of "Leo".
  7. Finally managed to track down a copy of this Savoy release. So who was the actual leader when the session was cut - Kenny Clarke or Hank Jones?
  8. This is worth buying for La Fiesta alone. Absolutely smoking performance from all involved!
  9. You really can't go wrong with this set.
  10. Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't know that.
  11. Well, it's even your current avatar - they could add the Live At The Shrine album. I suggested this set to Michael Cuscuna a while a go and he liked the idea a lot, saying that they'd wanted to to a bigger Stan Getz set a few years back but Verve wanted to do something themselves (the result being the East of the Sun set). With Verve's reissue program being what it is now, a Mosaic Select might happen after all.
  12. Got my copy two days ago, haven't really had much time to listen to it yet, though. Thanks for the really fast shipping!

    George Coleman

I love his later stuff in particular, like My Horns of Plenty and I Could Write a Book.
  14. I agree, those are some of my favorite Stan Getz recordings, too.
  15. Btw, I ended up grabbing the box set eventually. Paid less than 30 Euro for a Canadian import, can't go wrong for that price! Sound seems perfectly fine to my ears.
  16. The Relocator debut album is still a few weeks away, so here's something musically related for you to enjoy for the time being - a complete, previously unreleased prog album featuring both members of the band as a free download! Delta Cyphei Project (or DCP) was a '90s neo-progressive band that recorded three albums. For details and a direct download link, check out the Relocator blog! Enjoy and spread the word!
  17. So it gets even worse on the later stuff? I'd better stay away from that, then. The music of his that I have is interesting, but I really wish he'd just shut up.
  18. You're right, there aren't that many tracks that weren't released on CD officially yet. That makes it even harder for me. I haven't bought Jazz Moods yet because I'd been hoping for a "First Savoy Sessions" two-fer to complete his Savoy discography.
  19. The Lateef sounds interesting. I got the OJCs from eMusic, so to have them on CD would be a nice extra. But I'm mostly interested in the Savoy stuff. I'll wait until I hear some comments about the sound quality of those tracks, though. Too bad Savoy couldn't be bothered to officially release this stuff on CD themselves. Idiots.
  20. Not this time.
  21. After listening to some of his songs quite a lot in the last few months, I'd like to recommend the music of Oli Rockberger to every fan of jazz-influenced pop. I found out about Oli through Hiromi bassist Tony Grey who had him play on both of his solo albums "...moving" and "Chasing Shadows" (which was released just last week) and plays with Oli's trio frequently. Oli is an excellent pianist with a pleasant singing voice. His music is very catchy pop with some jazz elements and nicely worked-out details (lots of displaced beats). So pay a visit to his website http://www.olirockberger.com and just listen to the first three songs that the integrated audio player plays. Those are from his promotional CD "Show Me" and I think they're fantastic! Really good, inventive songwriting, melodies that get stuck in your head and all that combined with some jazz elements and lots of interesting, playful rhythms that are tastefully accentuated by the excellent bass and drum duo of Tony Grey and Chris Farr. It's interesting that someone this talented is unsigned and sells his music himself (two albums so far). I wonder if this is by choice or if the labels really don't recognize pop talent when they hear it.
  22. Hi there, better late than never (we wanted to have new samples available on the MySpace page first), we can finally follow up the "guess the keyboard player" competition with the official announcement of the guest star on the Relocator debut album. A short preview medley taken from several songs is now available http://www.myspace.com/relocator - enjoy! All the best, Michael
  23. I was sceptical about this at first and a short delay didn't help, but today I did indeed find a copy of the album in a local store. Will post some impressions later. Also got the new album by Hiromi bassist Tony Grey today and I gotta say so far I prefer the Grey album (quite a bit, even).
