I wasn't talking about a CD release, but the Sun Ra estate has made a huge selection of albums available as downloads (and for streaming) that haven't seen a physical reissue yet, often adding some extra tracks that deviated from previous reissues, and this was one such case. It's still available everywhere, for example: https://sunramusic.bandcamp.com/album/strange-strings And thanks for the information on those extra tracks. That release also includes the extra track from their previous Universe in Blue release ("Calling Planet Earth - We'll Wait for You") that didn't make it onto the expanded CD reissue of that album. For some reason I always thought Thunder of the Gods was some sort of compilation without any "new" material (I guess technically it *is* sort of a compilation). Will try to track down a copy!

Another reissue, this time we get an expanded edition of Strange Strings with some new tracks: https://sunramusic.bandcamp.com/album/strange-strings-expanded CD TRACKLISTING 1. World’s Approaching (stereo) 10:08 2. Strange Strings (mono) 12:25 3. Strange Strange (mono) 8:33 4. Crystal Spheres (Between Worlds) (stereo) 9:32 5. Cosmos Miraculous (mono) 11:10 6. Untitled St. Peter’s (stereo) 8:32 7. Ra Explains the Bandura (mono) 6:10 VINYL TRACKLISTING Side A 1. World’s Approaching (stereo) 10:08 2. Strings Strange (mono) 12:25 Side B 1. Strange Strange (mono) 8:33 Side C 1. Crystal Spheres (Between Worlds) (stereo) 9:32 2. Cosmos Miraculous (mono) 11:10 Side D 1. Untitled St. Peter’s (stereo) 8:32 2. Moon Orbit (mono) 6:35 3. Ra Explains the Bandura (mono) 6:10 So Moon Orbit is exclusive to the vinyl edition. I wonder what'll happen with the two extra tracks from the earlier release not included this time: 2. Thunder of the Gods (Previously Unreleased) 13:23 4. Moonshots Across the Sky (Previously Unreleased) 05:41

As I feared, it can be a bit difficult to keep up with new Sun Ra releases. Here's a new one - available in digital, on CD and on vinyl: https://sunra-mh.bandcamp.com/album/excelsior-mill It features Sun Ra playing pipe organ for 42 minutes.

Just checked the thread and there hasn't really been that much discussion here of the explosion of legit Sun Ra reissues over the past few years. I've owned almost zero Sun Ra before (only the more recent ESP reissues and Space Is the Place), so it's really cool to dive into this discography with fresh reissues created from the best possible sources. Between Cosmic Myth directly and their licensees like Modern Harmonic, Strut, and previously Art Yard, they've really done a great job getting this music out there and I can't wait to get hold of all these CDs! 🥳

This is not true. The track "Outer Nothingness" is merely an edit of "Interplanetary Chaos" and the two following tracks from "College Tour Vol. I". There is an edit at about 4:42 in "Outer Nothingness" and you can still hear the last bit of the vocals as it cuts to "Theme of the Stargazers" about 0:45 in. The next edit is at about 5:28, where the piece jumps to about 1:06 in "The Second Stop Is Jupiter". So they basically edited out the themes and kept the improv bits. You're not missing out on any music on "College Tour Vol. I".

Anyone here familiar with this series? I've liked all of these so far and I'm curious if there are others out there: Jean-Philippe Collard plays Ravel and Debussy piano works https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ravel-Debussy-Piano-Works-3CD/dp/B074TCMQGG/ Mikhail Rudy plays Brahms piano works https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brahms-Piano-Works-Mikhail-Rudy/dp/B00004Z4XK Alexis Weissenberg plays Bach keyboard works on piano https://www.amazon.co.uk/Goldberg-Variations-Weissenberg-Johann-Sebastian/dp/B00004Z4XO/ Augustin Dumay plays Mozart works for violin and orchestra, string duos and the trio/divertimento https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mozart-Violin-Concertos-Sinfonia-Concertante/dp/B000009MMW/

It looks like this series has sadly been discontinued (many old titles are still available, but no new releases for years now). But if they ever add more sets to it, I would like to see a Hamiet Bluiett set - he recorded seven albums for BS and SN as a leader.

Oh yeah, I didn't consider that possibility. Just checked, looks like the IPS albums haven't been released on CD with one exception which was an admitted needle drop with the blessing of Milford Graves. Sounds like they have misplaced the original master tapes.

Looks like Candid Records has reissued much of the Whynot Records catalog on CD. But not this album. Has there ever been a CD edition anywhere?

What's up with this release? Other than the link posted in this thread, it's impossible to even find it on the Mosaic website - which seems to be the lone place where the CD is supposed to be available in the first place! It's not listed under recent releases and if I go to the Charles Tolliver page, there's just a placeholder item listed and clicking on the link leads to an error message.

Oh boy, I've waited so long for this to be released on CD, I might just accept those international shipping costs in this case.

I got the CD edition of the original Darn That Dream album: 1 Section-8 Blues 6:20 2 Someday My Prince Will Come 7:45 3 Sweet Lorraine 4:05 4 Mode For Joe 8:13 5 Darn That Dream 5:38 6 Who Can I Turn To 5:15 Would love to hear more from these sessions, but it seems the companion album was never released on CD: A1 Fun For One And All 3:00 A2 Blue And Boogie 3:40 A3 Around Midnight 1:20 A4 Epistrophy 8:30 A5 Come Rain Or Come Shine 1:10 B1 You Stepped Out Of A Dream 5:30 B2 Someday My Prince Will Come 7:00 B3 On Green Dolphin Street 8:20 The compilation CD mentioned above (also called "Darn That Dream") is missing three tracks from the original Darn That Dream album (Sweet Lorraine and Who Can I Turn To?, both solo piano pieces, plus Someday My Prince Will Come, another take of which *is* included) and three more from the Someday LP ('Round Midnight, Epistrophy, Come Rain or Come Shine), though those add up to just 11 minutes (only Epistrophy gets a serious workout, the others are below a minute and a half each). If the track listings on Discogs are correct, both albums together add up to a playing time of just 75:46 (and that's including both takes of Someday My Prince Will Come). Would be cool to see a complete reissue of this material!
