  1. The traffic lights turn blue tomorrow...
  2. PM on Horace Tapscott & the Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra - The Call (Nimbus West NS246C)
  3. Jackie Coogan-Charlie Chaplin's The Kid or Uncle Fester-playing piano. Tomorrow is a king size drag.
  4. It seems to collect mostly 78's and so forth from before the lp era.
  5. This 3 disc collection has been a revelation and a lot of fun. I checked out Jo Privat on YouTube and was overwhelmingly impressed, so I rounded up a copy of Manouche Partie for myself. Thank you for the excellent recommendation.
  6. I was listening to Jean Matelo Ferret just this morning and Sarane Ferret yesterday. I am not familiar with Jo Privat, but definitely about to be...
  7. pm on Charlie Mariano – Boston All Stars (OJC)- $5
  8. A discussion on this site about the song Flying on the Ground Is Wrong had me reaching for Joni Mitchell.
  9. I am just discovering that there is a Dire Straits record that I like...
  10. The Albums That Never Were site posted a version of this album as it might have been had David Crosby been on board.
  11. On Apple Music the one available selection is Devil Blues which sports a vocal by George Adams, the tenor player. This track is "fun," but does not represent what Mingus was up to on the Moves/Changes records.
  12. As a much younger jazz enthusiast I did not enjoy Benny Goodman, but over time I came to seek out Charlie Christian, Teddy Wilson, Mel Powell and others in the Goodman orbit and ended up amassing a respectable number of Benny Goodman releases before I dug him at all. Of course I get it now and my BG acquisitions are intentional.
  13. This record is a classic!
  14. A Dave Schildkraut collection would be exceptional: the sideman work alone encompasses George Handy, Tito Puente, Tony Bennett, Pete Rugulo, Johnny Richards, Oscar Pettiford, Chuck Wayne, John Graas, Miles Davis, and Stan Kenton. Of course there's the licensing dilemma...
  15. The Andy Kirk box would have to be very selective as there is a very high percentage of forgettable vocals in that discography. The Frank Strozier set sounds like a Mosaic in waiting to me...
  16. That version of All the Cats Join In from 1944 has a nice if short solo from Don Byas.
  17. Bought the first set back in '85, I was 28 and several demographic strata removed from my current age.
  18. Most definitely! That opens the door to...
  19. I recall a Family Circus in which one of the young brood informs a sibling that Dad is listening to "Big Spider Beck."
  20. Thirteen year old me got this record when it came out-I had listened to it for many years before I started coming across the received critical wisdom that to some extent still colors the general perception of this release. My experience with this record was quite different than that of the critics...of course I was thirteen-what did I know?
  21. I really dig Billy Kyle!
  22. Listening to The Body and Soul elements from this set, digging Wayne's arrangements.
