I really like trolling through So What Are You Listening To Now as I am often reminded of great records that I need to reinvestigate. This one, on the other hand, I knew nothing about, and it definitely looks like one I need to know.
Now there's one from which I definitely got my money's worth! Jumpin' Like Mad also worked for me big time-and it does have a Lester Aladdin track.

My old friend Bob Palmer used to talk about this a bit...
He had also had a hand in a film that documented Randy Weston's group going to Morocco to play with the Master Musicians of Jojouka. It was a striking film which was apparently rejected by whoever had commissioned it. I managed to view a VHS copy...
Stanley Booth is a Memphian and, I believe, lives in my neighborhood. He has a collection about Memphis musicians called Rhythm Oil that I can hardly recommend highly enough.
Wasn't too enthused about this, but I have found that it helped contextualize a period of FZ's music for which I have had very little use over the last few decades.
The TV series Atlanta's first show of the season ended with Brown Rice by Don Cherry. The next episode slipped in a small dose of Calypso Frelimo by Miles.
Yes-most definitely! That was one of those great Mosaic box sets where I had none of the music in my collection before I got the set. I am particularly fond of the HRS box, and the Capitol Records box is not far behind.
A local Mexican restaurant (here in Memphis) used the Shaw Nuff intro for a television ad in the 1970's. It seems quite unlikely that they lifted it from a relatively obscure bebop record, yet I have not found another source for this...
I'm always glad to hear Muggsy Spanier and come back to these records regularly. My favorite from this set lately has been I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate.
