When living overseas as a teenager I’d listen to Willis Conover. Everytime later in life I’d hear Take the A Train, I’d think of his program, Time for Jazz.
When you live in a dictatorship like we did, you’d be hard pressed to find news you could rely on. The VOA and BBC did that, even Armed Forces Radio, as long as it avoided news about the host country, Spain, in my case. The VOA brought news to people who couldn’t get real news, especially behind the Iron Curtain.
Today, VOA has now been effectively dissolved by Trump, a sad day indeed. I could say more but I’m sure you know how I feel
