  1. Just a reminder that this is on folks. But I can't get the streaming audio to work for KCR, it works fine for other stations.....

  5. Somewhere in my foggy memory, I seem to remember there was some debate as to what his birthday really is. From the WKCR web site:
  6. I voted for Trane, because he's the most important to me. But I could see Louie being the day. What! No Miles!
  7. Jimmy Page - Born on January 9, 1944, in Heston, Middlesex. England.
  8. Max Roach Birthday Broadcast WKCR will be celebrating the life and music of Mr. Max Roach on January 10, 2004, Max's 80th birthday. Born in North Carolina, Max was steeped in the music of his local church before moving to New York to begin his studies. When he was only 18, he was already the house drummer at Monroe's Uptown Playhouse jamming with many legends. He, along with Dizzy, Bird, and Monk, helped propel the bebop into the forefront of the Jazz world. Not content to be pigeonholed, however, Max managed to stay ahead of curve for his entire career, moving from bebop to many later movements, including his seminal Freedom Now Suite from 1960. Over the years, Roach, both as a leader and a sideman, has performed with countless Jazz greats: Clifford Brown, Charles Mingus, Stan Getz, Eric Dolphy, and Miles Davis, just to name a few. Through it all, Mr. Roach's propelling ride-cymbal work and polyrhythmic mastery have never left his side, as he continues to play, lecture, and teach about the music which he has helped to shape. So, don't miss the musical mastery this upcoming Saturday, January 10th, as we will dedicate the entire 24 hours to the music of Mr. Max Roach. http://wkcr.org/
  9. I read a post somewhere (probably on AAJ, but it could have been here - probably a month or two ago), that the word on the street was that "Where Is Brooklyn" is slated to be a Conn this year. I saw it here, I thought I'd mention it again. B) Here it is.
  10. I missed this thread back in the Fall....my hope is for Don Cherry: Where Is Brooklyn!!! ...and any Ornette, Cherry or Pharoah sitting around the vaults.

  16. Who did this post dive painting? I wish I had time to keep up with the visual art world, I'm too busy balancing my time between the music world and my software biz. Heck...I'm playing with another musican Sat. afternoon for the first time since Aug. I don't even have time for music anymore!
  17. Pollock: he's amazing. There's a room full of his stuff (or was) at the Modern Museum of Art. His work has to be experienced in person, because these things are huge and don't always translate to a web page or book.
  18. And a kick ass sit in with Johnny Winter that was his audition for Columbia.
