  1. There's some outstanding tracks on Exile, and some sleepers that grew on me.
  2. A cheap Strat, a drum machine and an endless shuffle gets me in the groove.
  3. Hey 7/4, how IS that, anyway. Brakhage is the Cecil Taylor of filmmaking. Haven't seen anything of his since college film class, but was always impressed. I haven't heard that one yet! He is like the CT of film making, a very quick paced psych quality from what I saw so far.
  4. Sorry if I ruffled yer feathers Rooster. You might make less doing what you like, but you should get all those promos all those other music biz types get. I'm in the magazine biz, I see what those guys get. And...there has to be some way of writing off yer own purchases as a biz expense. Tax breaks! In other words, you would be part of the the biz instead of a fan. Sheesh!
  5. I'll say this again: FREE SHIT. This is a searchable forum....
  6. This is a public forum. Remember: FREE SHIT, FREE SHIT.
  7. I don't know what it would pay, it's should be interesting and man, there's got to be a way to get new releases free! Comps! Promos!
  8. I never met an ES-175 I didn't like! What do folks think of the new D Angelicos? I think they're ok, but those headstocks are huge!
  9. I played one of those a few years ago, the dealer still has it hanging on the wall. I really dug it. Did yours come with foam inserts for the "F" holes to cut down on feedback? The ones I saw were mounted on wood strips that matched the top. I know all about that trip! I stopped using the fretless on solo gigs so I could carry the JI guitar in a gig bag. You know...to the bathroom. Those double gtr gig bags are pain to haul around! I'd love to own an arch top, but I don't play Jazz in public (and not very well!) so I don't have any plans to buy one soon. I do use my mid-'70's Gibson L6-S (solid body) with flatwounds for everyday playing around the apt. and when I do get the itch for some chord melody. And to check out my newly purchased copy of Slonimsky's Theasaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns.
  10. A situation like hardbopjazz: I live about 30-40 min from NYC. It's just a train ride away. The real questions are: Is there anybody I'm dying to hear and do I have the time to go check it out?
  11. Yeah, I hear that Gilgamesh is a real asshole in person... Doh!
  12. I think budget is the wrong term. I think I should have wrote qty. At my peak it's about 50 titles a quarter or 200 a year. I work with databases as a pro.
  13. Yes. They did perform "Turnabout"as well in its entirety. Too cool! It's a fun tune.
  14. 2001-2003 I really cut back on buying CDs and going to shows. As for shows, it started by just showing up for friends (aka "networking", but I mean that in a friendly way. I like to check out what my friends are doing), and eventually I really didn't even have time for that! This year I started buying CDs again and I'm ahead of my quarterly budget for CDs. It's been a few years, but I'm back to buying CDs like pre-2001. Maybe this forum is a bad influence? Hey, look at how much time I spend here!
  15. That's cool, get well soon. That "boppish" version of Manic Depression sounds interesting too.
  16. I voted for Beggar's Banquet, but it's a close call, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street are great too.
  17. 7/4

    Don Pullen

    Wow. Sounds inspired!
  18. I didn't think of Live In Japan as a box! So let's try this again: VV, LIve In Japan, The Major Works of John Coltrane.
  19. So what happened?
  20. Yep. It's the OS. I upgraded all the machines I deal with from 98 to XP. Very stable OS.
  21. I managed to miss both!
