Pleased about the Evans, but the Monk seems unnecessary since All Monk seems to have dealt with that material Is the mastering the same between "the Complete Riverside" and the "All Monk"? -

Ornette Coleman - Beauty is a Rare Thing (2015)

Wow! Isn't that interesting! I am glad you appreciated it. Do you have a different method? -
Ornette Coleman - Beauty is a Rare Thing (2015)
hbbfam replied to LouisvillePrez's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
It becomes a process for me. First I discover (often through these forums) music that I want. Then it becomes a quest for what is presumably the best source to hear it. Using the Coleman box as an example, most of the music is available on individual CDs. The box has outtakes, as good or better sound than most of the CDs, but the music (like many box sets) is chronological and not always in the order that was on the albums. All of these factors are relevant. -

One does not trump the other. When it comes to many of these artists, the only issue is the quality of the release. For example, i own much of the Charlie Parker Dial on the 8 CD Dial and Savoy Box. I am on the fence regarding the new Mosaic Dial Box. I already have all of the Parker Dial, but not some of the others on this set. But what has convinced me to get the box is that many have said this is a sonic upgrade. How many times have I jumped on a remaster (we know I liked the music) only to find out that it was compressed, loud, etc. One does not trump the other. They are not mutually exclusive. In any event I am new to this forum, and have really enjoyed the conversations. -

I am new to this forum, and have been a long time member of SH forum. There are two primary aspects to that forum, and presumably this forum as well. One is discovering music from artists I was not familiar with. Ornette is an example. The second aspect is the difference in mastering and sound quality of the artist's CDs (I gave up vinyl years ago). His box set is again an example of this aspect. I was assured by many people that the "Music is a beautiful thng" box sounded really nice (and it does). I don't subscribe to the idea that I have to see wave forms and DB values to appreciate good (or bad) sound. Sound quality is so important when listening to some of these great artists. I guess what I am saying is that "Can anybody discuss the actual music?" requires discussion of sound quality. They are not separate entities. -
Still available. Email me at hbbfam@cox.net if interested.

If its the shape of jazz to come, you are required to like it. Rules are rules. -

Miles Davis All of You: The Last Tour, 1960
hbbfam replied to hbbfam's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I started this thread after listening again to the 4 CD Stockholm. It is not only great music, but the sound quality is very good. I certainly recommend this one. So now I want more. And ask the same question...what others of these CDs are recommended? -

i do realize that. I was wondering more on the sound quality. The Stockholm set sounds very good to me. -

Here's the link for the "Last Tour" http://amzn.com/B00N42F4EI Anyone actually have this one? -
I am really enjoying the music and sound of Miles Davis In Stockholm (1960). I realize there is a set from Paris that same year: All of You: The Last Tour, 1960 How does the sound of this one compare to the Stockholm set?
