  1. Man, these are getting tough. I almost went for the Duke Pearson, but on second thought, the early Hubbard sessions were superior and more consistent.
  2. This one is surprisingly easy for me to answer. I love ESP. Do I need to repeat? I love ESP; I love ESP. Miles Smiles is second.
  3. Sam Rivers. Problem with this game is how to keep up with what's been said already. Has anyone chosen Sam before? Anyway, we can have an updated history list of the names selected?
  4. Cool link, Jeff, Nice to know you!
  5. Great analysis! Mnytime. I doubt that NE will spend a first rounder on a running back. They recently picked up in free agency the starting fullback for the Chargers who is a great blocker and claims partial responsibility for Ladanian Tomlinson's year. He'll block for Antoinne Smith. First pick will go for one of the defensive tackles and the second first rounder will probably be someone like Kwame Harris, OT. They could very well trade both picks to move up as well. I think Mcgahee would be a great pick up for anyone. Do the Raiders need a runner? I also see him going towards the end of the first round. I don't think he'll slide into the second. The "experts" say that the Bears will take Suggs. The Lions will take Rogers for sure, and the Bengals will take Palmer. After that we don't know. I would personally wish to see the Pats trade some of their picks in order to move up and get a "star." Perhaps there's a team high up who needs some depth and could accept some middle round picks plus a first rounder for a high first round. We'll see. No matter what, NE has had a good offseason with their free agent acquisitions. Belichek is smart with the x's and o's, but he's also very smart with personnel.
  6. NFL draft is coming up. My team is the NE Patriots and they are stocked with draft picks. Latest news is that Tebucky Jones will be traded to the Saints and the Pats will receive a third and a seventh round pick in this years draft along with a fourth round for next year. That means that the Pats now have 2 first round picks, 1 second round, 2 third round, 2 fourth round, (can't remembe how many fifth and sixth rounders, and 3 seventh round picks. Trade anyone?
  7. Are we allowed to go again? Or just once? Tony Williams
  8. Grant Green! next?
  9. I went for "Smokestack" because I love the double bass, but I would have voted for POD. Actually, my all-time favorite is "Nefertiti" but it wasn't listed. Beautiful session.
  10. This one is impossible to answer. I had to select one so I chose "Juju," but I could easily have selected four or five others. "Adam's Apple" is a current favorite right now. Shorter was so consistent that it is unfair to select any single cd. It would be like trying to pick a favorite Grant Green. (OK, Tom, your next poll...) B)
  11. I cannot vote because I haven't heard any LY other than Unity and "Into Something." My vote for now: Larry Young in Grant Green's "Streets of Dreams."
  12. Real close between Maiden Voyage and Empyrean Isles. I selected MV for now, but things could change down the road!
  13. damn, I guess I missed it Thanks for the tip anyway. How much was it? $24.99. I think it was TOJC edition. Somebody jumped on it quickly.
  14. Don't look now but one is now offered on ebay with a "buy-it-now" feature.
  15. Thanks Kenny: I've played over the link a few times, now I can't get that song out of my head: "Beer is good for you; beer is good for you; beer is good for you."
  16. Great stuff, Kenny! What's especially funny is the motivation which led to the creation of that skit. The guy must have woken up with a Frankenstein and is still trying to purge the nightmare from his system!
  17. I bought from him a year ago and found him to be an excellent seller as well. I was just curious about what kind of bulk oop stuff he must be sitting on.
  18. Regarding Ebay: Have you guys noticed the seller with the name of Baylor? He must have a supply of about 50 copies of Hill, "Black fire," "Judgment" and "Smokestack." They are always sealed and he gets $20-25 for them. If he released em all at one time the price would collapse! He's very clever about doling out his stuff in measure. Don't know where he gets his stuff but he seems to have a warehouse full of Conns all sealed and in multiple copies.
  19. Don't want to worry you, Jacknife, but "Ready for Freddie" is a bitch to fine. Outstanding cd too. I got mine about a year ago. I think I paid close to $20 for it. Glad I did too.
  20. I picked up a copy of Raja fairly easy for cheap and had no idea that it is hard to find. I am getting that impression now as I read these posts. Come to think of it, I've never found another one. Tom: $53 on ebay? Man, my spending limit is around $20-25. My addiction takes me only so far. Of course, that is why I still do not own, Andrew Hill, "Black Fire," Judgment, or "Smokestack" though they appear constantly on ebay. I simply have a spending limit. If the price gets bid up beyond $20 range then I feel I am taking too great a risk of spending big money for something that could be reissued at any time. "Sonic Boom" will be reissued long before I am willing to spend $50 to buy it.
  21. Thanks for sharing your opinion, Ed. Based on your comments and those of others, I'm not going to pick up the cd. I want Grant Green recordings, not stuff which feature Green, unless it is headed by Big John P. or Horace Parlan and so on. Grant Green was awesome in my opinion, and he's good even when he's not at his best.
  22. Ok everyone, Like most of us here, I'm a big Blue Note collector. What, in your opinion, are the most difficult Blue Note cds to find? We'll probably get a variety of opinions here, and who knows the right answers, but I'll venture a few: Lee Morgan, "Sonic Boom" Lee Morgan, "Delightfullee" (still looking for this bugger) Hank Mobley "Slice of the Top" Those are the ones I'm still looking for anyway. I've got the Mobley, but it took forever to get it (thanks again, Tom!!) Want to hear about others.
  23. Thanks for the tip, Soul Stream. I haven't come across any good Grant Green past 1970.
  24. Is this cd worth picking up? Is it similar to anything else he's done? Opinions would be welcome. Thanks.
  25. You guys are making me wonder if I should give it another try. Too bad I no longer own the set. I have ended up by rebuying stuff that I had discarded after one or two cursory spins. Some of them I grew to like; others never grew on me. Another disappointing cd for me is Freddie Roach, "Good Move." I love jazz organ, but aside from a couple of songs, I could not get into this disc.
