thats what my sources point to....I always thought they were different at the time but there is confusion Still is a kick ass session! Andy
-
I will have a look at this tonight at the records and also at my various other sources at home Andy
-
Never seen the cover before ...cheers That was another session in addition to the ones I was referring to
-
They were radio broadcasts from that era from a tour that they did 69 and 70 I guess Lovely stuff The oft quoted dime a dozen site has them There are around 4 different session recordings as far as I know in july ....maybe

I must echo the fact that with the very very odd exception I never had any hassle with any of my cds. I did notice more hiss on my US RVG of Idle Moments and Midnight Blue which I thought I would buy as I played the earlier versions to death. It was a test and they were ok...nothing more nothing less I was not so impressed that I will replace any more of my older cds which to my ears sound brilliant and I have been lucky enough to own original Blue Note LPs but lacked the serious wonga to get the most out of them and could not wait to replace them with cds ( whilst making huge profits of course ) or at the time with Japanese new vinyl I have never understood the absolutist attitude on this or the people who lay into the music producers/remaster people. I share the fear that we may all end up losing as all music production gets controlled by the big boys but we ain't there yet and I am sure that was a fear in the late 60s when Blue Note got took over........yet my HUGE and bulging Blue Note collection is fighting a winning battle at the moment.

Me too and I think it would give someone a lovely introduction to Blue Note records ...what a diverse collection. I always think he played well with Lee Morgan and as for favourite...hard pressed I would say the most played in my house is the Grachan Moncur Evolution out of those and the opener on Open House with Jimmy Smith

I am afraid that I ended up just connecting my MP3 player (Creative Juke Box) to the Hi - Fi through the headphone socket and tend to stick it on shuffle. What better selection than Radio Bleaden .........a mixture then of Blue Note /ECM/Classical stuff then fill s the room OK ....I do need a telescope to read what tracks are playing .....from my chair but I know most of them I must admit though a connection to the pc would mean even more Radio Bleaden but then that is up stairs and my telescope will not work then. I could always get the children to stand next to the player and shout out the tunes...DJ training in the making. The trouble is the pc has alot of stuff that would not be so hot on the stereo so maybe I will stick with the MP3 connection for now

I have just heard some of the live stuff from the late 60s with Harold and Hutch....and it adds to the beautiful music they did on Blue Note together. Awesome sets from Germany in the summer of 69 which makes me remember the feeling I first had when I picked up Medina, Spiral etc .....that sort of era was really what I liked with these two.... I also have Inner Glow now which was well worth the wait and will enhance any Select from Mosaic should they release it Am I right in thinking we are missing some Argo/cadet dates with these two as well ? Andy

The Sermon always does it for me as did House Party and most of all Open House/Plain Talk...which I have always thought was the business. As for the links between him and Coltrane, they have both acknowledged each other in the past and see no reason not to believe either of them Andy

Gosh Another one gone of my favourites. Words are not enough but I do have a nice Mosaic to compensate with later today when I get home. I always think of his work as moving on what Hard Bop did in an accessible way. Goodbye Jackie

I agree and I wish we could offer to help out from over here across the pond. I would LOVE to be involved in any small way in anything like this. I loved what came out on the Sixth Sense and leave the decisions to those most involved. Like I mentioned before my experience is limitied to editing the announcers voice of the top 40 radio countdown when I was a kid ...and I alway fluffed that...perhaps I could stick the cds in the trays!...mind you ...I get that wrong at home...spent hours the other day looking for a cdr I had of John Patton Soul Connection and found it hidden under Jimmy Smith......the language was rather blue to say the least. I would welcome the chance to hear fresh material and do think the best way is to do unreleased stuff via an download thing..then the risk is lessened......however I am also reminded of an oft quoted response on this board that we need to spend more time with the classics we have and get to know them better Hmmmm Not so sure now

Kenny Dorham's Blue Lament. 1961 unissued BN session.
andybleaden replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Discography
Well if someone wants to stick a load of unrelated and unreleased Blue Note recordings on a cd and want financial backing then , with due consideration following the recent cash for peerage row in the UK and me not getting the expected peerage; I am willing to send my contribution ($15) to Blue Note to 'help them out' Just mail me the address and the cheque is on its way. Do I still get a title? Lord Bleaden of Blue Note has a certain charm -
Was n't jealous before now I am really jealous I nominate myself to do the editing for the Grant Green set at Club Mozambique and I am writing a nice letter off to Mr Tony Blair with a suitable size cheque. I will of course let all of you sneer when I take fame and glory in the music press for my legendary fluffed endings on songs and typos on the cover!

Kenny Dorham's Blue Lament. 1961 unissued BN session.
andybleaden replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Discography
and I am not jealous about the KD sides either In fact this reminds me of the thread .wayyy back when, when someone listed all the unissued sessions from the discography that were unissued not rejected...these I guess were rejected which is another matter Is there a running tally of what bootlegs there are out there? ( So i can keep my eyes well away) -
Me too Judging by the wonderful stuff that came out on Westbound/Eastbound ( never get it right way round) this should have been an absolute sorcher AND in some of the notes I have seen , mention is made of a tv show with this group playing live Any more info rewarded with life peerage in the house of lords ( usual fees apply) There are several of these 'unissued' sets that got snuck out ...not that I am jealous , I mean I do not even collect Blue Note records , or any jazz for that matter Glad to see someone on here has got em anyway Way to go

you would have to convert the stuff if it is in that AAC format which I am sure any decent pirate worth a peg leg and eye patch could do. I have got stuff to try from people in that format and converted it but it is a little tricksy There are also anomolies with Itunes UK and elswhere that I never understood or like which is why i never use the thing anymore......too invasive of my system for its own good. I tried again a while back and got even grumpier! As for 6o gb Ipods....I would hang on in there for next generation stuff and get a cheap stand in for now

The easy way to support the organissimo forums...
andybleaden replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Forums Discussion
Well as my wife knows full well , I never ever buy any jazz cds and so I am sure that as a once of I could use this very new sounding store, which I have never heard of ( even though I already appear to have an account ) and help in the boards finances -
Good grief that is alot of live recordings I thought my 5 or 6 bootlegs was a big collection I wonder if there is one for Lee Morgan or John Patton like that

Your posters and photos
andybleaden replied to HolyStitt's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Do not have any originals but I do have a whole heap of the Wolff photos from a variety of sources framed around the house ( when I can get special permisssion from wifey!) My best was a a collection of the postcards they did of some of his photos which I put together in groups of six and they are probably my favourite second to a few I have from calenders upstairs which I stuck 12 by 12 prints in, some were lp covers some were wolff prints Not enough room in my house for more ....unless I take some of hers down, let me see if she will notice .... -

erm yeh sorry forgot to put their website up Excellent site although they have really changed in the last few weeks with new scans for rear covers...and they seem to have taken the japanese lp pressings off , you know like the KING series with Japanese only issues..unless they have run out of space...one of my fav sites ...save for this one really good for those rare scans for hard to find lps or mosaic sets where I never got to see the original lp let me know if you see the japanese blue notes anywhere Andy
