As a Hawks fan, I'm sorry to see DeMarre Carroll go. That said, I'm glad that the Hawks were able to re-sign Paul Millsap. And adding Tiago Splitter was a nice move. I think the Hawks will be in the mix again next year. But I don't think we've acquired the players to get to "the next level." I guess we'll see...

Sad news. RIP

I've got a few days of vacation later this week, and I'm hoping to get some riding in. I might make a run up to the north Georgia mountains. My bike is a 2003 Kawasaki ZRX1200R. It's loads of fun to ride. Sadly, I've barely touched it this year. Life's just been busy, and I've been focused on other things. Here's a pic from a ride that my wife and I took a few years ago:

A bunch of JH's Milestones are excellent. My favorite from that era is Canyon Lady. To that end, if the Milestone box is still available cheaply, that's money (less) money well-spent. Yep. I got that box CHEAP. And it's chock-full of fantastic music.

When I was just beginning to explore jazz in the late-80s, I got a CD player for my birthday. To jump-start my collection, I decided to join the Columbia House Music Club. My first order: - Erroll Garner - Concert by the Sea - Miles Davis - Kind of Blue - John Coltrane - A Love Supreme - Duke Ellington - At Newport I've loved Concert by the Sea -- and Erroll Garner -- ever since.

I dig Lovano. My favorites are probably Rush Hour, Joyous Encounter, and Live at the Village Vanguard. Lovano may not blow my mind, but he's always interesting. Much of Lovano's work as a sideman is also very strong -- especially with the recordings with Paul Motian & Bill Frisell. And don't overlook his work on Jim Hall's Grand Slam: Live at the Regatta Bar. It's a doozy of a disc. Fantastic playing by the entire band -- Hall, Lovano, George Mraz, and Lewis Nash.
