  1. Yes, I assume it is. Here in the U.S., Chiaroscuro issued four volumes from this band's residence at the Roosevelt Grill.
  2. I'm now listening to Wagner's Das Rheingold from Solti's Ring cycle:
  3. Sorry to hear this sad news. R.I.P.
  4. Pat Metheny Group - Travels: Recorded Live in Concert (ECM, 1983) LPs 1 & 2 of 2 Terrific. This is really knocking me out today. Stunning AQ too -- especially considering the fact that these recordings weren't made in a studio.
  5. Now spinning: Various Artists - The Panassié Sessions (RCA, rec. 1938-39) Sidney Bechet!!!
  6. Just picked up this gem: Mickey Newbury - Live at Montezuma Hall / Looks Like Rain (Elektra, 2 LPs, 1973) I love Mickey Newbury's music.
  7. Next up: Originally released in 1970 in Japan on the Victor World Group label
  8. It's funny how they misspelled "Chu" on the cover. It's a French release; maybe the name's spelling got lost in translation.
  9. Now on my turntable: Batacumbele - In Concert: Live at the University of Puerto Rico (Montuno Records, 1988)
  10. I'd rate The Magazine near the top of the heap too.
  11. Next up: Cedar Walton - Roots (Astor Place, 1999) This album revisits many of Walton's most famous compositions in a large-ensemble context with Terence Blanchard, Joshua Redman, and Mark Whitfield as featured soloists. Piano – Cedar Walton Trumpet, Flugelhorn – Don Sickler Trumpet – Terence Blanchard (soloist on tracks: 3, 4, 9) Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone – Willie Williams Alto Saxophone – Bobby Porcelli Tenor Saxophone – Joshua Redman (soloist on tracks: 1, 2, 9) Baritone Saxophone – Gary Smulyan Trombone – Scott Whitfield Guitar – Mark Whitfield (soloist on tracks: 5, 6, 7) Bass – Ron Carter Drums – Lewis Nash Percussion – Ray Mantilla
