  1. (I hated the Reds)
  2. Each song adds one more musician to the group. I've never heard this album. Any one have an opinion on it?
  3. Almost -- but not quite -- in a coffee cup.
  4. THIS album is a trip! A true classic of it's kind. Absolutely!!! This is a terrific album! On "Who Killed Davey Moore?", Sebastian Cabot sounds like a hard as nails detective determined to get to the bottom of this crime and he's not buying your flimsy alibi, Chester! How about --
  5. Were these LPs part of a series?
  6. Louis Prima & Keely Smith. Mr. Prima had a long and successful recording career before he met Ms. Smith, and he continued to record after their partnership/marriage ended. Ms. Smith recorded a number of albums as a solo artist, both during her time with Mr. Prima's band and subsequently. But the two of them together made music that surpassed what each did individually

  8. Don Pullen and George Adams
  9. This week's score for me = 1,480 Sports = 186 Entertainment = 474 Anything Goes =342 Music = 478
  10. This album has always had an autumnal feel about it for me. Perhaps it's because when I first got it, I had to make an October road trip to L.A. and on the way back I listened to this CD over and over for almost the entire trip.
  11. Hope you have a fun-filled birthday, Justin!
  12. An interesting interview 10 minute interview. I was totally surprised by the story of his crack addiction. For some reason, he seemed like one of the least likely guys to get into that mess. http://www.npr.org/2014/10/23/354871509/herbie-hancock-on-a-path-to-find-my-own-answer
  13. Not on the album cover itself, but tucked within the cover of a used LP I bought was a little cardboard card. It's printed on one side. If one were to fold this in half, it would stand up and on one side reads: To keep up with the happenings of The Chuck Travis Quartet & The Big Band Fill in your name and address below with an area to write one's name and address. On the opposite side, it reads Your Requests played by The Chuck Travis Quartet with a few lines on which one could write one's musical requests. On the back of this card, in black ink, is written Best Regards, Cal Tjader I wonder if Mr. Tjader had sat in as a special guest of Mr. Travis' group one evening or if he was just sitting in the audience and some one approached him for an autograph. I'm guessing the store I bought this album (Soul Sauce by Cal Tjader) from hadn't even noticed this card stashed inside because the album was in almost perfect condition for only $4.
  14. More than a few people seem to be asking that question these days.
  15. Wow! I am very shocked and saddened to learn this news. I confess there are tears in my eyes. I absolutely love the Manhattan Transfer and have since I was a kid and watched them on their brief summer replacement TV series. I saw them perform 3 or 4 times over the years and they were ALWAYS a class act, able to keep their material fresh-sounding even though many of the song they must have performed hundreds (if not thousands) of times. Plus, they seemed to actually enjoy being around each other, and how many musical groups can say that after 40+ years? I cannot imagine the Man Tran continuing without Mr. Hauser. He may not have been the most impressive singer in the group, but his musical direction and influence on the group were large. It might be possible to find another vocalist to sing his parts, but no one could actually replace him in the group. Bot Janis Siegel and Cheryl Bentyne have recorded several solo projects, so they may continue singing on their own. RIP, Mr. Hauser. I greatly appreciated the music you gave us. http://youtu.be/60X7pdackxc
  16. Three Gals, Three Guitars (and boots that were made for walkin'!)
  17. Some easy questions made it a good week for me -- total score of 1,905! Click on the link in the first post to play this week's quiz.
