  1. Thanks Ron. I've placed my order for 11 of the 12 items that J&R ended up not shipping to me. Of the titles I was after, appears only Nat Adderley Much Brass is out of stock at alldirect. Will be interesting to compare J&R and alldirect--my first orders at each. And then no more shopping for awhile (...unless J.J. Johnson Mosaic goes last chance)! So many new treasures to enjoy. I share the paranoia about OJC given these sales at multiple websites.
  2. So now 7 CDs have shipped, 8 have been cancelled (including Lucky Strikes), and the remaining 10 are still processing. Called again to ask about this last group, and the agent said they'd ship what they could. I had hoped to beef up my Farmer, Golson, Gryce and Waldron. Still a chance, but this is rather irritating--especially when I read about other's success[es]. What they say has shipped: Adams- 10 to 4 at the 5 Spot Eardley- The John Eardley Seven Farmer/Gryce- When Farmer Met Gryce Golson- New York Scene McLean- 4, 5, 6 Taylor- Taylor's Wailers Terry- In Orbit What's been cancelled: Dameron- Magic Touch (I obviously don't have it) Gryce- Rat Race Blues Land- The Fox Monk- 5 by Monk by 5 Russell- Stratus Seekers Thompson-Lucky Strikes (Not to my order) Timmons- This Here is Bobby Timmons (not here) Waldron- Impressions What's still processing: N Adderley- Much Brass Blakey- The Jazz Messengers Farmer- Farmer's Market Harris- Bull's Eye Haynes- Cracklin' Lateef- The Centaur and the Phoenix McGhee- Maggie's Back Russell- Outer View Waldron- Mal-1, Mal 2 Time to turn to the Jazztet Mosaic, which appears to have been even more affordable. Thanks again to those that put out the alert regarding the Byrd/Adams last chance, as well as J&R.
  3. Last I checked, my May 30 order is still "processing". But one can't check online right now because their website is down. So I called. Agent has no idea what happened to my order, or what item(s) they're waiting for. Said she'd get it authorized and have a partial order shipped today. Not holding my breath. Asked if the website was undergoing routine maintenance/updating. No, their system crashed.
  4. My Byrd/Adams set (ordered last Thursday evening) arrived today, #3245. Fabulous! Now if only J&R will honor me with some notice about my OJC order from two weeks ago...
  5. Hey Jazzkrow, My order of May 30 has generated no response beyond the initial order confirmation. Everything is still processing...
  6. What Big Al, Free For All, and Quincy said. I'm always grateful for the sales tips I learn about here, whether its Blue Notes at Tower, Jazz in Paris at DustyGroove, OJC's at J&R, or what have you. Often I don't pull the trigger fast enough and miss out on some of the more obscure items (like the Complete BN Gil Melle at some "graveyard" site way back when). I like to think of myself as patient. Eventually I'll get some message, and hopefully part of my order. If not, there is always the epinions link on the one J&R email I received asking for feedback...
  7. I ordered 25 OJC titles on May 30, and the order is still processing all items. Some titles have switched from usually ships in 1-2 days to 7-14 days, and some have switched in the other direction. 11 days down. Some communication would be nice. Is this sale really going anywhere?
  8. I placed my order 9pm last night (along w/ Jazztet set and Schizophrenia), and got a confirmation noon today. If my large OJC order at J&R looks to go largely unfilled, I guess I can afford a couple of Mosaics. And if the J&R order does come through, well then I'll have a lot of great music and a lot less cash for other distractions...
  9. The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Wynton Marsalis?
  10. Hey Matt, nice drawings, may have to order a few. Could you tell me a little bit more about the dimensions of the images (maybe a little larger than what I saw on the website??), and frames? Thanks
  11. Don't forget Joanne Brackeen's cover of the Wham! tune "Everything She Wants" on Havin' Fun (Concord). On an album of Arlen, Mercer, Porter, Cahn, etc., nice to see JB has a bit of a sense of humor,...or that she's havin' fun. Too bad the tune has one of those irritating fadeouts.
  12. From Daedalus Music [salemusic.com] George Braith, Complete BN Sessions (finally picked this up!) really digging the first disk Geoff Keezer, Zero One (Dreyfus), nice version of Footprints Clifford Jordan, These Are My Roots (Koch) Emily Remler, Catwalk (Concord) Don Braden, The Fire Within (RCA Victor) Dorough/Frishberg, Who's On First? (BN) don't know that I'll be playing this one too frequently... Anyone try, and recommend, any of the Naxos Jazz titles?
  13. I purchased one of these so-called "rare" Pullen Selects from that seller and experienced no problems. Even purchased an actual OOP Donaldson Blue Note title as well . At least this seller uses the word "rare" and not OOP like some sellers of the JJ Johnson or Mobley sets.
  14. Just saw the quartet tonight at Blues Alley in Washington DC. They played many of the tracks from Suspended Night (my only exposure to TS thus far has been this recording). Tomasz certainly is not a technician on trumpet but the compositions (what first interested me), and especially the interplay between the members of his young rhythm section were electric. Highly recommended. Find that babysitter [...or arrange for passage to Poland]!
  15. How 'bout switching it up a bit and adopting a "Pat" theme? Pat Martino, Pat Barber, etc. Yours truly, Patrick
  16. great show GOM! Gotta get this Jazztet set, and tell 'em it was due to your show. How long is the Night Lights show?
  17. My one and only DG order was this New Year's Day to take advantage of the aforementioned Jazz in Paris sale. Probably won't visit again until there is a similar great sale (or maybe to go back for more cheap JIP titles, if any stock remains). But who knows. Right now, I am digging Elek Bacsik...
  18. Thanks for posting the coupon code. I rarely order from these guys, because their prices, especially on used stuff, have drifted upward. [Another potential transaction cost for individuals that don't live alone is that the loose confederation of stores ship their items separately, so if you place a large order, odds are you'll be collecting numerous packages, over a course of weeks, in your mail.] We'll see if the Jarrett "Bye Bye Blackbird" and new Stanko (my first foray into this artist) that I selected arrive (methinks the latter may not actually be in stock). Django stockouts annoy me less than receiving an item in a completely crushed jewel case. (I know its a used item, but if I was in the actual store, I'd know about a crushed jewel case before making a purchasing decision, and would ask for a replacement. Online customers should not be taken advantage of in this fashion.)
  19. For the first time in a long time, I made an online purchase at djangomusic.com. My cart checked out with a lot of Lateef: The Golden Flute, Cry! - Tender, Into Something, and Other Sounds. Also got George Russell, New York, New York, Art Pepper, Intensity, Cannonball Adderley, Sophisticated Swing, and Peter Gabriel Plays Live [...sometimes high school calls back to you...]. All for about $72 delivered. Really digging The Golden Flute right now, and wish some of the short Prestige/New Jazz sides would have been doubled up on single CDs.
  20. I just picked up a copy of the Cannonball Small Groups set from Django's. Looking forward to listening to it this weekend.
  21. Thanks for the outstanding tax day tip. $9.74 is a resistable price for a new RVG, $8.28 considerably less so. So after patiently waiting for some lower prices on these, I made the following order of RVGs new to me (Conquistador, SHB, FF, RN, RFF), RVG upgrades (AA, BT, SFTNL), something that maybe should be an RVG (BW), my first Tristano (Intuition), Konitz/Mehldau/Haden (based in part on raves in the modern BN classics thread), and a pair of used items (Parker (only $70.54), and Pharoah): Blues Walk, Lou Donaldson Blue Train [Remaster], John Coltrane Search For The New Land, Lee Morgan Adam's Apple [Remaster], Wayne Shorter Sweet Honey Bee [Remaster], Duke Pearson Ready For Freddie [Remaster], Freddie Hubbard Conquistador [Remaster], Cecil Taylor Free Form [Remaster], Donald Byrd Right Now [Remaster], Jackie McLean Intuition, Lennie Tristano/Warne Marsh Alone Together, Lee Konitz/Mehldau/Haden The Complete Savoy & Dial Studio Recordings, Charlie Parker Jewels Of Thought, Pharoah Sanders All for less (okay, not much less) than $170 delivered. Now the waiting game for when it all finally arrives!

  23. Perhaps more humorous than bizarre, I've always enjoyed (...concentrate on proper pronunciation...) "Cunning Stunts".
  24. No more tickets available for the Library of Congress show. There also appears to be no more tix for their 4/29 performance at the Virginia Arts Festival in Newport News.
  25. Hey couw, [a digressionof sorts] sudden-thoughts looks promising, and (unlike some other jazz boards) they've even linked back to organissimo for Chuck's remembrances of Malachi Favors. Nice writeup on a new Malachi Thompson disc (Delmark). Anyone here heard that one yet?
