Tremendous ball-handler and finisher, but a real knucklehead incl about various hoops things in Cleveland, Boston, and Brooklyn. Maybe “a different maturity” as TNT talkers just said? Maybe

Congrats to Yankees and Yankee fans. Given the massive payroll and talent difference, kind of pre-ordained. At least some fun, and the scrappy rebel alliance took down the Evil Empire once in glorious fashion. Overall NY took care of CLE 2 main strengths: bullpen and Jose Ramirez. CLE most definitely did NOT handle Soto/Stanton/Judge. But then Soto should still be a Nat and Lindor should still be playing next to Jose Jose. Oh well. NBA gets underway shortly.

Have been quietly enjoying the success of the Guardians this season, recognizing that they have played the statistically softest schedule thus far. Reversion to the mean bound to happen. I think now with the schedule getting tougher won’t be surprised if Twins catch them. Still not bad for a lineup that at the beginning of the season could be described as Jose Ramirez (likely in the mvp conversation), Steven Kwan (emerging scrappy singles hitter w glove) and 7 guys in witness protection. Bullpen has been beastly, but can it hold up when it pitches 4+ innings every single game? Again reversion to the mean at some pt but enjoy the scrappiness and success until then.

Knicks still completely own Cavs

Caught that. Definitely dame time

Very entertaining indeed. Shorthanded Cavs were in it for most of the game. After shooting well against Mavs, they could only muster 6/43 (14%) from 3 which is why they lost to Bucks.

Some guy named Curry seemed to have success from deep. Okay, maybe only Curry. Scrappy win for the Cavs. Will confess I was about to give up a few times. Nice to see Exum having some success w Mavs. Doncic is fun to watch - so skilled - but such a whiner. Worse than Trae Young or Harden. Is there a bigger whiner amongst today’s elite players?

Still a fan of the team in Cleveland. Definitely a different experience watching a bunch of young guys learn how to play together rather than bask in the glory of LeBron (and note the rate at which a score margin would deteriorate while he sat on the bench). Didn't know much about Donovan Mitchell prior to his arrival. Feared he was a bit of a chucker, but he isn't (most of the time), and actually is a leader. Evan Mobley has been a bit of a disappointment in terms of his development this season. And now no Garland or Mobley until at least February, so they will struggle to avoid the play in. And Donovan probably doesn't sign an extension. But for now, just enjoying the process. Looks like they may be accepting volunteers to be in the guard rotation tonight in Dallas.

I saw Cassandra perform w Marvin Sewell and Jason Moran’s trio in February 2020. (Apparently one of JM’s early gigs was touring w CW in Japan.) She seemed powerful to me. Somewhat surprised that no Billie tunes were performed that evening given her album and Jason’s interest in BH.

Saw her just once in DC w LMO tribute to Haden. And just yesterday acquired some of the early WATT recordings from Felser. Fun listening ahead

Thank you Tito for over-achieving quite a bit during your extended stay in Cleveland. Great to see you and the original Tito on field before a playoff game. Hope your health challenges don’t escalate (may be worth continuing to reside close to the Cleveland Clinic). -

Haven't been paying much attention to the season yet. Went to the Cubs/Nationals game this afternoon with work colleagues. I like the increased pace, at least in this instance. Not too herky/jerky, and it didn't look like pitchers were gaming the clock/rules. Only name I recognized was Patrick Corbin who had an excellent outing. Nats win 4-3 on a walk-off homer in the ninth. Took only 1:55 to play, so we had to move to a venue outside the park to continue our business-person's lunch. -
What live music are you going to see tonight?
Patrick replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Last night, Abdullah Ibrahim and Ekaya at Kennedy Center. Previous scheduled show cancelled due to death of Hugh Masekela. AI played a few long solos, but didn’t interact that much musically w the 6 piece band. Bit of a victory lap, but okay for 88 year old music/civil rights hero. -
COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee

I took Paxlovid when I caught Covid in late October. Fortunately no metallic mania. Unfortunately, rebound case of Covid a week later. Good luck rooster. Definitely appreciate your dining strategy. May need to try some berbere in a chili batch -
I saw both performances of Iphigenia at Kennedy Center. Definitely a finished product. Not aware of any recordings, but you can explore booking the production in your town. Octopus Theatricals
