Fibonacci Poems Multiply on the Web After Blog's Invitation
vibes replied to 7/4's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Fibonacci sequences may be found in at least one song by Tool, on their "Lateralus" album. -
What Jackie McLean are you spinning.......
vibes replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Listened to all of "Destination Out" while trying to get some studying done. That wasn't working (I'd rather listen to Jackie than study ) , so I'm going to have to listen to some more Jackie when I'm done with studying for the weekend. -
Damn it. Jackie is just about the only person I think of when I think of alto sax. He really turned me on to the instrument. Strangely enough, after not listening to any of his records for a while, "Destination Out" has been in heavy rotation this week. It's going back on now.

I've heard rumors in my world about the next generation of iPods being a complete redesign. What I've heard is that the entire face of the iPod may be a screen, as opposed to the small space with the click wheel. Just a rumor at this point, but it's entirely possible.

Are the track titles really long, and/or do they contain a number of non-letter characters? I've run into problems with tracks like this in the past.

Scott, congrats on the new system. I've really enjoyed my experiences with SACD and DVD-Audio, and now have three SACD-capable players in various parts of my home. Do you have a multichannel setup? You mentioned you had a home theater, but weren't specific on this point. If so, here are some great multichannel discs (not necessarily jazz): Miles Davis - In a Silent Way Holst - The Planets (Mofi SACD version) Beck - Sea Change Herbie Hancock - Headhunters A number of excellent titles have already been mentioned in this thread. Here are some more that I enjoy: All of the Oscar Peterson "Exclusively for My Friends" SACDs Chopin - Ballades and Scherzos (RCA Living Stereo SACD) Enesco and Liszt - Rhapsodies (Mercury Living Presence SACD) Joe Satriani - Engines of Creation Bill Evans - Moonbeams Vince Guaraldi - A Charlie Brown Christmas Vince Guaraldi - Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus Godsmack - The Other Side The Rolling Stones - Hot Rocks If you like classical music, you pretty much can't go wrong with the RCA Living Stereo and Mercury Living Presence SACDs. I've found the Mofi classical SACD titles I've purchased to be excellent as well.

Well, that's what I was told by my high-end audio dealer. Just thought I'd mention it here. O.K., did your dealer offer some information as to where and what the dangers are? Everything I've heard about the "dangers" of DualDiscs simply has to do with the fact that they are a bit heavier than a standard DVD or CD. I've seen some weight measurements on the differences, and if I remember correctly, DualDiscs were an average of 3-4 grams heavier than a regular disc. In my opinion, that's not a big deal. I've had no trouble with DualDiscs in my Pioneer 563A or my Sonys (DVP-NS755 and DVPNC80V).

It's not free, but I bought this and have had excellent results with it: Converter This software lets you convert DVDs to .mp4 and various types of video formats over to .mp4, so that they can be viewed on the video iPod. I searched and found this app, and it looks like it's free, but I haven't tried it: Videora Good luck!

How does the RVG of this compare to the previous CD issues? I love this album, and would consider upgrading if people think it's worth it.

I just bought a 60gb video iPod last week. It's my first iPod, and I'm quite pleased with it. The screen quality is excellent, and I've watched a few shows on it. A couple of complaints: - No ability to create a custom EQ on the fly. - The shuffle function is difficult to figure out. (maybe I'm dumb, but I'm not getting it yet) I'm still not a huge fan of iTunes, but I'm getting used to it as well. I'll probably buy Anapod, so that I can just treat my iPod like a regular hard drive, which I prefer.

This is an excellent recording of some really great music. -
I bought myself a Denon AVR-3806 receiver and Boston Acoustics VR1 speakers for my home office. I'm going to set everything up today, and I'm pretty excited about it.

It does play DuelDisks, I've played Brothers in Arms & American Beauty today. ← Thanks. Good to know.

Ordered this while on vacation, finally come home Thursday and have been playing SACD's since, and the sound, really and truly, is amazing. Plays the DVD-A very good also. Happy with my purchase and looking forward to more SACD & DVD-A to listen to. ← Do you have any DualDiscs? If so, does the 2910 play them? I've had my eye on this player for a while, and am curious about this, since I have a few DualDiscs now.

I don't know of any RLS or MLP SACD boxes. There are only individual titles, as far as I know. You should be able to find them easily at Acoustic Sounds.

Beck - Sea Change Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon most of the RCA Living Stereo and Mercury Living Presence titles Bill Evans - Moonbeams Herbie Hancock - Headhunters Miles Davis - In a Silent Way

What music do/would you listen 2 to relieve stress
vibes replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
VERY interesting choices. I'd go for "Chaos A.D." first, personally, but "Roots" isn't a bad choice. Which Anthrax do you prefer? -
Vaughan Williams, symphony no. 6 is a rather dark piece. Find the Abravanel/Utah Symphony Orchestra version, if you can.

Elvin Jones, "Poly-Currents" session. -
I echo all the positive comments above. Great album for late night chillin'. I have it on right now.

I just got a promo copy from our jazz buyer. I won't be able to tell much listening on my work computer speakers, but I'm glad to have it. My copy is not copy-protected.

I've got four of these shirts. When they say to order up a size, they mean it. These shirts are tight-fitting.

Washing after one posts here would probably be more appropriate.
