Normally I would agree with you Chuck. I'm not wasting my money on the iPhone. I remember when I bought my first IPod, I tried my best to avoid buying an Apple product. However, I came to the conclusion that Apple was offering the best product in its class. Maybe that's changed since then. Guy ps I'm looking forward to the iTurd (new product that will make your shit come out in a glistening white color)... I concur with Guy. I'm no fan of Apple, and especially dislike the hype. Both of the iPods I've purchased were purchased solely because they had the largest storage capacity I could find. I definitely won't consider an iPhone or anything like that until the storage capacity is at least 100GB, if ever at all. Honestly, what I'd really like is a portable with sound quality like my old Sharp minidisc player (or the two Sony minidisc players I had before that). It has way better sound than any other portable music player I've heard, mp3 player or otherwise. I've taken it to work a couple times to let colleagues compare it to their mp3 players. They're blown away.

Actually, you do have 160GB available, if 1GB=1,000,000,000 bytes. See the "consumer confusion" discussion here. 160 * (1000*1000* 1000) = 160,000,000,000 bytes ---> divided by (1024*1024*1024) = 149 GB I hadn't calculated that, but I'm aware of the difference. It's just annoying. It would be nice if "160GB iPod" meant "160GB of usable space out of the box." Same idea goes for hard drives when you buy them. Oh well.

I picked up the 160GB this afternoon. It's exactly the same size as my previous 60GB video iPod, which is nice because I can use the cases I already have. Kind of annoying how I haven't loaded a single thing on it yet, but there's only 148.65GB of space available. If that's what the pre-loaded games and OS take up, that's pretty crazy.

If you do leave, then I wish you well, but it will be very unfortunate. You've always seemed like a very nice guy, from way back in the BNBB days until now.

Hell yes. :tup :tup I always found DEEP incredibly entertaining.

From the Economist: Charlemagne / Linguistic Follies
vibes replied to Guy Berger's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
For some reason, I find this hilarious. Chalk it up to living in the United States. ...and every other country where English is the native language. When I lived in Hong Kong, I found it appalling that the majority of British, Americans and Australians I knew, many of whom had lived in the country for more than five years, couldn't even ask someone where the nearest restroom was in Cantonese. -
What is your favourite Mosaic for listening pleasure

I think I might have to go with the Byrd/Adams set. The Johnny Hodges Verve Small Group set would be up there as well. -
Bridge Collapses in Minneapolis -terrible footage

Good to hear that no one on the board has been affected. I hope it stays that way. My father and I drove over that bridge twice on Monday--kind of scary. I'm currently a student at the University of Minnesota, and attend classes very close to where the bridge is. The red spot in the attached photo is where I go to school. Pretty crazy when these things happen so close to you. -
Judge for yourself: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?p...p;GRid=15613318 I am NOT clicking on that link! She's a very cute girl...but when you think about it, she died in a motorcycle accident. These guys should have read the fine print before they started digging, because what they would have gotten is almost assuredly NOT what was in the photo. Stupid. It would make a lot sense to do that stuff if she had died from leucemia instead Exactly!

Early Cannibal Corpse albums focused almost entirely on necrophilia. "Tomb of the Mutilated" was probably the height of that phase of their career. EDITED: Photo taken off by administrator.

Ethics question -- leaving furniture on the street
vibes replied to Guy Berger's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
There's probably nothing wrong with it, but your neighbors might not appreciate it. There are websites out there where you can tell people you have stuff you want to give away, and they'll come get it. I can't remember the name of the biggest one right now, but you could probably google and find it fairly easily. That might be a better alternative. -

My parents bought me that stapler for Christmas a couple years ago. Great stapler. -
The Complete Victor Lionel Hampton Sessions (1937-1941)
vibes replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
It's been a long time since I was this excited about a jazz release. Since a Verve Lionel Hampton/Oscar Peterson comp was the first jazz CD I ever bought, I have many fond memories of listening to Lionel Hampton and will be happy to add more of his music to my collection. I'm glad I saved that Mosaic gift card that's been gathering dust on my desk for the last couple of years. -

I work for a very large company, and there are some very wealthy executives that work for the company, including the richest person in the state. Sadly, I have found what this article says to be true. Many executives, but not all, act as though they deserve everything for free--the latest music, movies, cell phones, whatever. I have had friends catch vice presidents under their desks searching for the latest movie releases. When I managed the battery category, executive assistants came by for freebies for their bosses more than anyone else. It is strange that the people most able to pay for things in the store are often the least likely to do so. Unfortunately, this behavior causes a lot of confusion in the lower ranks when people are trying to understand company ethics policies with regards to gifts and gratuities. When the senior vp of your department tells you it's not OK to accept Superbowl tickets to a suite, but then does so himself, it's very difficult to understand what you should or should not do and why. Personally, I'm around samples and freebies so much that I get sick of it. These days I'm happy if someone gives me a free t-shirt, but I'm not interested in much else. -

Favorite pizza places (past, present)
vibes replied to jazzbo's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I've been to Uno's in Chicago, and it was great, but I prefer Gino's East. That's the best pizza I've ever had, I think. I've never tried the pizza in New York, but one day I will. My wife has heard so many good things about it that she wants to take a trip to NYC (she's never been) for the sole purpose of eating pizza. -
Sorry Mike, I don't have it yet. I've ordered it from Amazon France a week ago (17 euro only!) and immediately moved it from my SA-CD.net wishlist to my library. Amazon says it will be sent in a week. I'll post a review on sa-cd.net. I don't recall what the OJC sounds like, but I do have this SACD and think it sounds wonderful. I've played it at least once a day since I got it a few weeks ago. Highly recommended music with a nice late-night vibe.

Thanks, Chuck. It's been a while.

I'm glad I got to see Andrew perform (and meet Mr. _Ties!) on that date as well. A very memorable experience.

I don't know if this means it's going out of print, or just that True Blue won't be carrying it any more, but I got an email from Mosaic saying that this is a "last chance" item. For anyone who does not have "Moon Rappin'", NOW is the time to get it. It's become my favorite BN organ session, and I haven't been able to find anything else like it. Highly recommended!
