Were you trying to ship the CD's to an address different from your billing address? My order got cancelled because "my information couldn't be verified." I was trying to ship the CD's to my work address (which, strangely enough, is Best Buy Corporate Headquarters ), but when I went back and reordered and tried to send everything to my billing address, then the order went through fine. Perhaps that was the problem? The website is a little quirky, whatever the case. The website was totally redone a few weeks ago, and although it has some nice features, in typical Best Buy fashion it was put up before all the bugs were worked out.

Thanks for that information, Mike. Now I really want to hear it.

When I used a CD player as an alarm clock, I always put in CD's that were really loud/obnoxious, because I knew I'd have to get up to turn them off. I had a cafeteria job my sophomore year in college, that required that I get up at 4am. I usually put on some death metal to wake me up (this did not improve my relationship with my roommates ), and wake me up it did. I found that Malevolent Creation's "Stillborn" worked quite well for me. These days, I just use the alarm on my cell phone. It's loud and irritating, and it definitely wakes me up.

Has this been released on CD anywhere? Sounds like a very interesting date, and I've enjoyed the other few Teddy Charles CD's I have in my collection.

I have the JRVG of this and really dig it. I was disappointed to learn, after buying it, that the Conn had bonus tracks from another session. I'd really love to hear them, but I rarely upgrade my CD's from one mastering to another. In any case, the JRVG sounds good and this album is highly recommended.

I don't really care for Jackie Chan movies, but I always like seeing the parts that are filmed in Hong Kong. I could say the same for most movies filmed in Hong Kong - I've lived in or walked by most of the places I see, which is always fun.

I just picked this up, and am really digging it. Question for those of you with the new Verve release - on "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea," about three minutes into the song a clicking/popping noise starts and it doesn't stop the rest of the song. Are all copies like this, or are they supposed to be like this?

Mosaic: Illinois Jacquet and Chico Hamilton
vibes replied to Alfred's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I just got my Jacquet set in the mail yesterday, and it's #4219 out of 7500. It looks like this one is going to go away long before it ever hits the limit, which is a shame. -
By the way, I had to go with the eggs and American bacon. There's nothing like the smell of bacon in the morning (and the leftover grease is great for cooking other stuff, too!). Anyone ever had Portuguese sausage and rice for breakfast? I had that at a McDonald's in Hawaii once. Not too bad, really. I'd eat it again.

Wasn't it Jim that started the McGriddle thread that was around before?

I have the Bobo and it's not too bad, but I think I was expecting something a bit different. There are some good straight-ahead songs like "Psychedelic Blues," but the songs that I think of when I think of this album are the latin-tinged elevator music songs with Willie on vocals. I'll give it the rolleyes because that's what my wife does every time I listen to this album. It's not a bad album, and the sound is very good, which is one of the things I've enjoyed most about the Verve LP repro series. I'm glad that we're not spending a lot of time discussing how much we hate the remastering on the Verve reissues here. From my experience, the remastering has been very consistent with all of these (the only complaints I've heard are in regard to Dizzy Gillespie's "Afro"). While Verve has put out some nice reissues recently, I agree with Shrdlu that they're sitting on a ton of great material, and I do wish they'd either reissue more of it or license it to Mosaic.

I got that message too, but at least they shipped the other three I ordered right away.

It should be OK to do the Selects. I tried putting them in my shopping cart and then adding True Blue titles, and it worked OK. I received the Illinois Jacquet set and 4 CD's today. Very quick shipping and great service!

I threw in a note with my Mosaic order asking them to ship this title if they had it available. The box just came to my office, and the CD was inside. Big thumbs up to Mosaic!

Glad I could help a few people out. I picked up 4 myself: Mulligan/Desmond - Two of a Mind (older version, unfortunately) Paul Gonsalves - Ellingtonia Moods and Blues Johnny Hodges/Wild Bill Davis - In Atlantic City C-Jam All-Stars - Diminuendo, Crescendo and Blues Sometimes working for a corporate monster does have its advantages!

Although most of the CD's are comps, it's a pretty good deal. Bluebird Jazz Sale

I decided to go for the Jacquet. The sound clips are pretty decent, but this will be a stretch for me. I never listen to music from this era, so it should be fun. -
Damn, I've been looking at this one for a while and just tried to order it from Mosaic as a part of the promotion, but it's not available right now.

My Byrd/Adams set doesn't have a hinge. Most of my newer sets (Stitt, Turrentine, etc.) don't have the hinged covers. I actually prefer the sets without the hinge. Why your Byrd set would have a hinge, as opposed to mine not having a hinge, is beyond me.
