  1. That one is hard to locate on CD for a reasonable price, unlike some of the other solo albums on FMP. True, but you can buy the high-rez download from destination-out -- and I've always viewed it as a singular effort in the vast solo Cecil canon.

    Uptown

I think he's got a little Johnny Ramone working there.
  3. Martin Kuchen -- Hellstorm -- not an easy listen, but an incredibly powerful attempt to portray the horrors of Nazism in sound. If you found Angles -- Every Woman is a Tree to be moving you'll embrace this one as well.
  4. Just received an email from DarkTree -- this is now available for preorder (w/ expected ship date of April 20).
  5. They are thin card folder sleeves, and the disc slides out of a pocket in the sleeve. While that is the standard Dark Tree packaging, the 16 page booklet w/ this disc might mean something a little sturdier (hopefully).
  6. Die Enttauschung
  7. Sorry to hear that. But a friend who may have the most acute ear of anyone I know heard Lee in Chicago recently and was very impressed. I felt in the presence of a "legend", but there was no stamina & the "singing" on every song was distracting. He kept looking at his watch, asked how long are we supposed to play & was finished in less than 45 minutes. There was no 2nd set. That was my feeling as well when I caught him a few months ago. Although Lee's scatting wasn't nearly as distracting as Dan Tepfer's over the top Keith-style body gyrations while playing scales.
  8. Folk music didn't even register on the list, so wouldn't that make it less popular that jazz?
  9. Waclaw Zimpel
  10. Here's three of those I picked up and can recommend. Kosuke Mine/Solid Shunzo Ohno/Something's Coming Mikio Masuda/Trace [Low-Priced Edition][Low-Priced Edition
  11. +1 - Lacy with Waldron did a fine version of Monk.
  12. It's kinda like Will Clark taking over the Hall Of Fame and remaking it in his own image. I don't think even that evocative image does it justice -- more like Will Clark taking over all of baseball from Little League on up to the HOF and trying to remake it in his image.
  13. Arghh, Jazz Journeys in Japan or something. I don't have my copy handy at the moment.
  14. I think the one you need to pick up is William Minor's book. Scott
  15. Do you have the Clusone Trio discs?
  16. I must confess I haven't paid attention to these sorts of self-aggrandizing industry awards productions for quite some time, so I'm guessing it isn't new, but there's really a category for "best improvised jazz solo?" As opposed to a fully composed jazz solo??
  17. I picked up 9 of the East Winds from CD Japan for a paltry $106 (including shipping) -- I'm not sure I could buy them in the U.S. for that much. b
  18. cd japan is also carrying them -- with a more English-friendly webpage. b
  19. Beyond the lack of sources there seems to be some bungled history. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but that first paragraph appears to claim that Prohibition ended in 1930 -- which is off by three years.
  20. Interview with the participants (which helps clear up some of the mystery about this release): http://www.timeout.com/newyork/blog/a-new-ornette-coleman-album-our-exclusive-q-a
  21. My cd arrived today, complete with System Dialing Records car decal and book of matches [there's a first]. It's an interesting album, feels a bit like the Naked Lunch stuff with a healthy dollop of later Bill Dixon thrown in. Anyone know why this was in the can for five years?

    Hum Dono

I'd hold on another week. Delivery times can really stretch at this time of year. O.K. FWIW, an order shipped from Japan on the same day arrived in 7 days My order shipped from UK on December 8th & the confirmation email put the expected delivery date at January 10th, so I wouldn't cancel anything yet.
  23. There is free software that lets you burn flacs to a cd (I use one called Burrrn), so you can still have lossless on your pc & a cd.
