I've never heard her solo album but I have really enjoyed Ratkje's work in the duo Fe-mail. Their album with Lasse Marhaug is excellent, if not for the faint of heart.
  8. I have an extra sealed copy of Art Pepper - Winter Moon (Galaxy K2) for sale or for trade. $7 plus shipping or I would be willing to trade for an equivalent disc I do not already own.
  9. from Concord's website: “A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS CONUNDRUM! Some of you may have noticed that the new remixed, remastered version of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" had two mishaps -- these are as follows: Track 4: Linus And Lucy -- the original LP version was an edit of two different takes, in the remix for the new CD we ran one of the takes in its entirety. New pressings of the CD will revert back to the original stereo mix -- if you want to replace your copy, please see the instructions at the end of this explanation. Track 9: Christmas Is Coming -- the original LP version and the version on the new CD are entirely different takes. This is an unintentional mistake (those keeping close score will note that both versions are identical in length, thus confusion ensued during the final master assembly). Our sincere apologies, if you want to replace your copy, please see below. The master has already been updated and versions hitting the stores from this point forward will be corrected. For those of you who have noticed that some of the songs have things you've never heard before -- you're right! And these things are NOT mistakes: Track 1: O Tannenbaum -- the original LP version had the introduction to the song cut off, on the new CD we reinstated the intro. Track 5: Christmas Time Is Here (instrumental) -- the original LP version fades out at the end of the song almost losing the last chord, on the new CD we intentionally left the last chord in. Track 7: Skating -- the original LP version fades during the bass solo at the very end, on the new CD we intentionally let the song run to its conclusion adding about ten seconds to the track. Finally, there has been great speculation and conjecture over whether or not any noise reduction was employed to generate the new CD. The new CD is remixed from the original three-track so the fact that you're not hearing that old familiar hiss is NOT due to the use of noise reduction, it is rather that the new mix is much quieter than the two-track stereo master. The only place a touch of noise reduction was utilized was on Track 10, "Fur Elise," as there is no three-track for that master -- it was originally recorded direct to two-track. So, should you like to trade in your CD with the the two alternate takes (Linus And Lucy & Christmas Is Coming) for one with corrected masters, please send your disc (not the digipack, just the disc please) or a receipt for your original purchase (if you wish to keep the disc with the alternates) to: Good Grief! Concord Music Group, Inc. 100 N. Crescent Drive; Suite 100 Beverly Hills, CA 90210 We will send you a replacement CD gladly in keeping with the spirit of the holiday. Please note that this replacement offer is only valid through March 1st, 2007. Thank you.
  10. I finally found a used copy of the one "old school" Ozrics album I was missing: Sliding Gliding Worlds. It has been reissued as part of a twofer, but I like the original hand-drawn designs they used on the original six cassettes and am happy to finally have all of them. They are a lot quirkier than the non-self-released albums (which is saying a lot.) The live disc Live Ethereal Cereal is well worth picking up if you find a copy. There have been some really nice soundboards from the 1994 tour available on Dime recently.
  11. I just received a compilation called Barrio Nuevo from Dustygroove and highly recommend it to people who enjoyed What it is. Latin funk, rock and soul from the 1970's. Some very, very nice tracks.

Where were you able to order this one from? I'd be interested to read your thoughts on the disc once you've had a chance to listen to it a few times.

I finally was able to track down a copy of this disc. $10 on ebay. Not too expensive, either. I've been listening to a lot of Schlippenbach recently, so I'm really looking forward to getting home and giving this disc a spin tonight.

If any Funny Ratters are interested in a free copy of Charles Gayle Trio - Live at Glenn Miller Café (Ayler) send me a PM and it is yours. I have an extra (still sealed) copy thanks to the kindness of Jan Strom. I already own the album and would like to pass it along to someone who would enjoy it. (on Hold)
  15. (ON HOLD) I have an extra copy of Jimmy Heath and Brass - Swamp Seed (Limited Edition OJC) for sale or for trade. The shrinkwrap has been removed but the annoying sticker on the top of the jewel case has not been removed and the disc has never been opened or played. $5 plus shipping or I will trade for a comparable jazz or blues disc that I don't already own. Feel free to PM with suggestions if you have a disc to trade.
  16. Do a label search for Numero Group over at the Aquariusrecords website. They have sound clips for all of these discs. I really think you'd like them, given what I know of your tastes. The label puts out a very high quality release. Lots of research and well written liner notes, too.
  17. The Numero Group label has been releasing some fantastic discs that, while not purely funk, would be worth your while to explore. I love all of their releases that I have heard: Good God! A Gospel Funk Hymnal Cult Cargo: Belize City Boil Up Eccentric Soul: The Bandit Label Eccentric Soul : The Capsoul Label Eccentric Soul : The Deep City Label
  18. I'd also recommend Cold Heat: Heavy Funk Rarities 1968-1974, Vol. 1, which is their "follow up" to 16 Corners as well as their Midwest Funk and Texas Funk compilations. Their website says that Funky 16 Corners has recently been remastered using more original source tapes.
  19. This is one of my favorites: The Funky 16 Corners - released by Stones Throw.

I ordered a copy from Eremite last week. I'll let you know what I think once I've had a chance to listen to it. I recently received a copy of Topography of the Lungs. I agree with all of the praise that was posted regarding this disc. I can see how all of the hype might have been a bit overboard, based mainly on how rare this album was, but the music itself is very, very good. I also got Evan Parker's second duo cd with Stan Tracey, "Crevulations," which I highly recommend. Parker and Tracey work really well together and I've found these two discs to contain some of Parker's most beautiful playing. I'm still trying to find time for a second listen of the Evan Parker octet's new album "Crossing the River." On first listen I enjoyed it but I'll need more time to digest this one.

I believe Kerbaj owns / runs the label this disc is on. Derek Taylor has posted a positive, if not overly-enthusiastic, review of the Brotzmann / Zerang disc over at Dusted. I'd be interested to hear a Brotzmann / Corsano duo. Or a Brotzmann playing with Flaherty and Corsano.
  22. I was surprised, as it was released only four years ago, according to AMG. Unfortunately the nearest brick and mortar new / used cd shop is about an hour away from here and doesn't have the greatest selection I've ever seen.
  23. I think this might be a long shot, but worth a try. I have a friend who really wants to hear Esquivel - Merry Christmas from the Space Age Bachelor Pad. Unfortunately, the disc appears to be oop and the least expensive version we can find is currently at $61 on ebay. Does anyone have an extra copy they would be willing to part with for a regular price or have any leads that might help my friend get a copy to listen to? I'm clueless when it comes to music like Esquivel, so any help is appreciated. Thanks!
  24. Check out the Aquarius Records website. They have sound clips for most of the Old Man Gloom albums.

New Brotzmann / Zerang live disc on a Lebanese label called Al Maslakh. I haven't had the urge to listen to Brotz in a while but this one looks really tempting.
