there were two albums, flute fever & monium, on one collectables cd. i had it on preorder from cduniverse. when it was cancelled ,i e-mailed collectables to ask why, can't remember the answer. to mikeweil, i would not care if wayfaring stranger comes out on water,as a rare groove,a connoisseur, an rvg, toshiba, etc.,as long as it comes out. as to how you would classify the eddie gale recordings, beats the hell out of me?i do have both and i like both.

sure, well i like jeremy steig and i like jazz flute. i have a copy of this, burned from an album, imo, this is easily the best flute album that blue note released. (i believe that this was recorded for solid state, but blue note did release this in the 4000 series). i'm no jazz critic,so no review, but i know that i like this album alot. i would buy an official release in an instant.
-
etherbored, i've got a lot of relatives in italy, i'll be buying that one!
-
not in our lifetime.live at the roxy is probably on waters list of blue note titles that they have no intention of ever releasing. we will be lucky just to get kenny cox & jeremy steig.
-
rooster ties, just a guess, for a water/blue note release request, send it to water. i would think that they would have the final say as to what they release. maybe blue note has given them a list of recordings that bn has no intention of ever releasing. then they go from there and pick out which titles to release. if this is the case,i'd guess that the two kenny cox recordings are on the list, along with jeremy steig-wayfaring stranger, and i've already e-mailed them about that one. hell, send an e-mail to everyone that you mentioned, i don't think it would hurt.

it would be great to have a record company from brazil reissue the three moacir santos blue note recordings: maestro saudade carnival of the spirits just like water has leased a number of blue note recordings, maybe a brazilian company could do the same. anyone with any suggestions, e-mail addresses? i don't think blue note would release these anytime soon.
-
kevin, if you read this and get a chance,do you think that you could ask michael cuscuna about the water/blue note reissue program. why did blue note lease these titles to water? will it continue? if so, any word on additional titles? thanks, mike.

mike casinghino replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Live Shows & Festivals

suggestions for the next "Rare Groove" series
mike casinghino replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Re-issues
i e-mailed blue note about a grant green twofer with: visions shades of green the final comedown they replied that, "the grant green was promising". also, i still can't believe that the blue mitchell mosaic did not have: bantu village collision in black hopefully they will be issued at some point. though i still think the best chance would have been in the mosaic box. i would also love to see: reuben wilson-on broadway & set us free lou donaldson-say it loud jimmy mcgriff-black pearl also, almost forgot: the three sounds- soul symphony this (imo) would be a rare groove classic! -
i was also at the concert, and thought it was an excellent performance. i agree with you that roswell rudd was the star of the show. so far two excellent shows, douglas & hill, looking forward to the last one, greg osby in june.
-
no doubt, the two leo parker recordings: rollin with leo-(my all time favorite bn album) let me tell you bout it
-
getting back to the original post...kevin b's take on the one for all cd, no problem, is dead on. one of the best cd's(imo)i have heard in quite some time!
-
they played eight numbers in an 82 minute concert? i don't think so,on either the 8 or 82.

impossible, the place with the chihuly chandelier was the autorino great hall,at the bushnell, which is about a mile away from the site of the andrew hill concert, the wadsworth atheneum. the concert you saw was not run by the hartford jazz society, which is bringing us the hill, douglas, and osby concerts. relyles, i will agree with you, an excellent concert. i have seen hill & tardy once each, before tonight, in seperate groups, and i thought that both played alot better this time. the bass player was pretty good and the drummer was adequate. for anyone not knowing what was being played, it would have been a good idea to give the titles to the numbers. hill did not say anything the whole show, except for the names of the band members three times and one thank you after the third or fourth number in the concert. one last item, normally the hartford jazz society concerts are two sets, this was one set, and a little short, imo. could be the cost of the atheneum theater eliminated one set. (they usually hold their concerts at the, asylum hill congregational church, which is certainly a bit cheaper). did you go to the randy weston concert, at jackie mclean's artist's collective, the previous saturday? this was an excellent concert. weston on piano, t.k. blue on alto sax & flute, alex blake on bass, victor lewis on drums, and neil clarke on percussion. the play list was: little niles, african sunrise, the shrine, niger mambo, blue moses, and the mystery of love. this was also one set, but definitely longer than the hill concert. curiously enough, though this was a randy weston tribute concert, jackie was nowhere around to give the plaque to mr. weston. ( this was one of a number of tribute concerts, held at the artists collective, where the musician is honored with a plaque, for their contributions to jazz). the next one will be for, ahmad jamal, saturday, june 19th. i also have tickets for the douglas & osby concerts.

i thought it was four men with beards, did one of them shave?

the jazz scene in northampton/amherst,mass. is excellent, with shows at the iron horse & calvin theatre in northampton, and the unitarian meetinghouse(mostly avant garde) & umass, in amherst. maybe being good friday had something to do with it?
-
saw the billy bang trio at the iron horse,in northampton, mass.,this past saturday night. they played one extended set. not enough advance ticket sales for two sets, when i got there the"crowd" consisted of three people, a couple of doz. by showtime. they had some dude with a cowboy hat play set two. needless to say, i got the hell out of there pronto, after set one. imo,an excellent show. billy bang, violin, todd nicholson, bass, abbey rader, drums. to anyone familiar with billy bang, they played: spirits entering daydream then a couple from the vietnam, the aftermath cd: moment for the kiamia bien hoa blues also: at play in the fields of the lord know your enemy this dude must play for the love of the music, a couple of dozen,if that, 12.50 a ticket, not your typical get rich quick scheme.billy bang is definitely worth seeing.

if you are interested in later hutcherson blue note, i sent an e-mail to mosaic about a mosaic select with later b.h. albums, such as, cirrus, knucklebeans, head on, inner glow, etc. the reply said, it is not definite, but possible. if anyone out there is actually interested, send them an e-mail, it can't hurt.

Don Pullen-George Adams Quartet
mike casinghino replied to Brad's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
hey dave, i don't know where you got your copy of, song everlasting? my copy has blue note imprinted on the booklet,cd,and tray card. -
i don't claim to be any expert on the rare groove series. i just happened to have picked up a blue note rare groove catalog at some store (tower, i think) years ago(it has a date of 1997 on it). i still have it,and it definitely has sweet honey bee listed in it.
