well, this post is a little late,but...i was at work, man my heart sank, when i checked out the board and saw, jackie mclean rip. knowing the huge loss to his family & the world of jazz, i was lucky enough, living very close to hartford, to have seen jackie many times, more than any other jazz musician. this was also a huge loss for the people of hartford, thru their artists collective, artists collective ,jackie & dollie mclean, were able to help many kids. and i am sure that dollie will keep it going strong. my last memory of seeing jackie & dollie, other than a concert, was at the hartford stage production of,the devil's music,(the life & blues of bessie smith). an excellent show, imo. there they were with a bus load of kids, taking them in to the show. they were very busy with all the kids, so i did not bother them. but there they were, trying to expand the kids interests into different areas of the arts. just one example of many. jackie & dollie were a godsend to the city of hartford, jackie, rest in peace & dollie continue your strong effort in helping the community.

now don't anyone slap me upside the haid with a long box,at my age i bruise very easily. i just want to say that i have never had a problem with ron mcmaster, and it looks like neither has lundval or cuscuna. they must like what he is doing,or else he would not still be working for bn. everyone should have their own opinion, but bn must be quite satisfied with his work. that said, if i can get my paws on any unissued bn recording, i don't care if it is a connoisseur, rvg, toshiba, water release,or anything inbetween. just remember, that any recording is still second hand, it will never sound as good as the original recording date or live show, no matter what the hell they do to it. i'm just grateful to have copies of many great sessions from the past. and this post will NOT be edited for errors, cause i don't care.

while the vocals were sort of blah, i would not call them terrible. terrible,in my opinion, would be the two so called vocals on robert glasper's new recording, canvas.talk about terrible, nothing like wrecking a very nice debut recording by mr. glasper.

Predictions on a vintage 2006 Mosaic year?
mike casinghino replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
though a bobby hutcherson select could be the mother lode of unissued material.if they choose from the following, none of these has made an appearance on cd. head on cirrus knucklebeans inner glow waiting a view from the inside -
talk about being negative, why not tell the guy that you don't know where to find them, but good luck with your search. rather than your negative reply that these recordings have "questionable" musical value. in regard to your pm, merry christmas & happy new year to you to!
-
what does "questionable"musical value mean?if someone wants these recordings, thats their business.i don't think he asked for a review.

i was also thinking of going to nyc, on 12/09, to see the jeremy steig quartet, at the cornelia st. cafe. the quartet: jeremy steig-flute,vic juris-guitar,cameron brown-bass,anthony pinciotti-drums. also, i thought i'd hit the metropolitian museum of art, for their vincent van gogh exhibit, there thru 12/31. does anyone have any ideas on a place to stay that won't break the bank.if you do or don't, thanks anyway.

Kenny Burrell "Freedom" Blue Note LP
mike casinghino replied to monkboughtlunch's topic in Re-issues
mikeweil, hell, your idea sounds good to me. i will send mosaic an e-mail to suggest a select with the three solid state and two capitol recordings. jeremy steig also has a website flutehereorhear he also has a new cd out. the steig quartet appears monthly,at the cornelia st. cafe,in nyc. i am going to try and make it down there for a show. -
a big for sonny fortune! imo, all three blue note recordings, a better understanding, four in one, from now on, are all worth getting.

Kenny Burrell "Freedom" Blue Note LP
mike casinghino replied to monkboughtlunch's topic in Re-issues
mikeweil, the reply i received from mighty quinn stated, we are looking at two of the recordings that you mentioned, but will not comment on titles until we secure the rights. quite awhile ago,i sent an email to blue note asking for a doubletime release of jeremy steig's three solid state recordings: this is j.s, legwork,& wayfaring stranger. the reply was, they would consider releasing a single, best of, cd. double ugh!!! i see mighty quinn has put the titles to their next release on their website. ray nance-body and soul, and roy ayers-west coast vibes, both scheduled for march 2006. -

well, my burn has the 5 tunes, from 10-22-64, mentioned by bill b. and the 3 tunes, from 3-27-63, mentioned by michael fitzgerald. there is also one other tune, i hadn't anyone 'til you, from 4-2-63, for a total of nine. this is exactly what is listed in the japanese jazz critique blue note book, on p. 434. edit for spelling, duh. -

i have a burn of freedom, which clocks in at 38 min. when i first heard of mighty quinn, i emailed them and asked that they consider: 1) jeremy steig-wayfaring stranger 2) frank foster-manhattan fever 3) kenny burrell-freedom just trying to get the rest of the bn catalog released by someone.
