  1. marcoliv, you are correct, sweet honey bee was a rare groove release.
  2. i saw jimmy smith a couple of years ago,at the iron horse,in northampton, mass. the show was great when the group was playing, but in between numbers jimmy was insulting anything & everything. i remember at one point i yelled out, "why don't you shut the f... up", but there was alot of noise, and my suggestion went unheard. as i said, i thought the show itself was great, if he could just chill out when he's not playing.
  3. andrew hill will be in hartford,ct. check out the hartford jazz society www.hartfordjazzsociety.com and click on,2004 jazz at the atheneum series.
  4. i don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices, unless jimmy smith starts insulting everyone in the audience. that can get annoying el pronto! my next three shows will be, the sun ra arkestra, billy bang trio,& andrew hill & friends, none of which are on the same night!
  5. it's on a thursday, which is not a good night for me, but i'm going to make an effort to get there.
  6. sun ra arkestra under the direction of marshall allen. march 25th, as part of the magic triangle series. university of massachusetts at amherst. anyone catch a show recently? are they still worth seeing?
  7. new show, brotzmann-parker-drake trio, march 5th, smith college northampton, mass. plus other stops in the northeast. more info, www.eremite.com

  9. THANKS for the coupon!
  10. i just saw jackie in hartford,ct. in october. he looked fine to me, he was joking around with the band, and playing his butt off the whole show. maybe it was just the band members(james moody, jon faddis, slide hampton, etc.)but it sure looked like he was havin' a good time. i know the audience loved it.
  11. so if blue note had released the green/mecca recordings on one cd, and the two best from the west recordings on another, when they had that connoisseur 10" series release a couple of years back, they would have released everything available.
  12. just wondering, after taking out all the leased sessions and sessions that have already been released on cd, just what the heck is there left to release from this series. i know many people, myself included, have asked for more titles from the 5000 series, but is there really that many titles left? i believe the urbie green is one unissued title, anything else?
  13. soul stream, i'm a big jackie mclean fan, so anything with jackie on it would absolutely override anything with stanley jordan on it. that said, i do have cd's by stanley jordan, so it's not like i hate the guy.
  14. imo from the selections on the dvd, they should have dumped stanley jordan- jumping jack, and added passion dance. i ordered it anyway. fool that i am,if it's blue note, i must have one.
  15. saw the dizzy gillespie alumni band saturday night. great show. a couple of changes to the band, benny green instead of billy childs on piano & add duke on percussion. the artist's collective also honored james moody with a plaque for his contributions to jazz. the first set was:salt peanuts, confirmation, moody's mood for love, fiesta mojo, and groovin' high. i can only remember night in tunisia, and con alma, from the second set. i'm not much at giving reviews, but it was an excellent show, one of the more memorable one's i've been to. great playing, alot of joking around, even jackie was scorching around quite a bit, and man, he was blowing lights out on the saxophone. and i can't believe james moody is going to be eighty soon, you would not know it by his playing, he's still a hot item on the tenor and flute, and he also had the crowd laughing with his joking and antics. i got lucky, being back in the line, and still sitting front row center, for one heck of a show. also just found out that the hartford jazz society will be bringing andrew hill in april, dave douglas in may,and an unnamed third show in june, to hartford, ct. looking forward to those!

  17. brownie, i should have said, why not on lp & cd? i know there are a lot of people who still prefer lp's. do you have an e-mail address, maybe we should flood them with requests for the sadi on cd!
  18. i wonder why the fats sadi recording was reissued on lp rather than cd?
  19. shrdlu, not an empty box, i would like a mosaic box filled with unreleased blue note thangs.
  20. dizzy gillespie- horn of plenty- was from two sessions. it looks like the first session (from mar.1952) titles are on your list, hurry home & afro paris. the second session(apr.1952)titles are not. the titles are, lady bird, somebody loves me,she's funny that way, wrap your trouble in dreams sweet lorraine, everything happens to me. maybe that disc in nov. will have the rest. thanks to everyone for the info.
  21. i'd love to get the fats sadi recording on cd myself. that recording was made in 1954. the jazz ma tazz website shows a gillispie 1952 cd coming out on chronological classics in nov. that's when horn of plenty was recorded. maybe it will be on that one. does anyone have any ideas on the best site to order chronological classic cd's from?
  22. i e-mailed a request for a mosaic box a couple of weeks or more ago. should i expect any kind of response to let me know that they received it. or by this prolonged period of silence, that they had a good laugh, and shredded it by now.
  23. does anyone know if the following blue note releases,(purchased/leased) have come out on cd,(chronological classics,etc.). if so, what label & release #. erroll garner-overture to dawn vol 1-2-3-4-5 released as bn 5007,5008,5014,5015,5016 james moody-with strings released as bn5005 dizzy gillispie-horn of plenty released as bn5017 thanks in advance.
  24. i'll have to agree with lon & andy on this, i like them both, definitely worth getting, imo. to danasgoodstuff, not much of a hurry to pick up ghetto music, but for that price i would pick up a copy, and worry about whether i like it or not later. who knows how long it will even be in print.
  25. DrJ, i also have total eclipse, san francisco, and medina. these titles would definitely be included in a hutcherson/land box. though the seven recordings may not fit into the 3 cd mosaic select format,it may have to be a standard mosaic box.and that said, i would still like to see as many unissued(on cd)sessions as possible, so i would rather have the titles that i first listed. let's just hope that they do some sort of a hutcherson box period.
