  1. Here are a handful of photos from Fred Anderson's 80th Birthday Bash a week ago. Many great sets...glad I had the chance to be there several nights. Mwata Boden
  2. ...that would be a drag. I spend 3 or 4 days there photographing the 70th anniversary of the club...had a great time. m
  3. ....you're a brother .......
  4. Will do. Yeah, I just picked up #32 myself (the Sly Stone/Jamal); Landlocked hasn't gotten #33 (Philly soul to which Marcello refers) in yet, or else they're sold out. Philly Soul has been on the newstands in Indy for weeks....would be happy to grab one for you if you want it......Jazz Issue#34 should be out in the next few days I think. It has features on Creed Taylor, Horace Tapscot, Richard Evans, Melvin Sparks and others. m~
  5. ..can't wait until the exhibit comes to Chicago. I've been a fan of Smith's for years...! m
  6. ...I'm just going to add another "wing" onto my house!
  7. Wynton and Jazz @ Lincoln Center band tonight in Indy....my first time with Wynton
  8. The United Trombone Summit with Slide, Curtis Fuller, Bill Watrous and Steve Turre last night in Indy....cool show. Got to hang our afterwards to hear some fun stories....managed to get the four of them together for a quick photo as well. Mark~
  9. ...send a PM to another board member (Sal); he may be willing to part with his....I know it's only been played once........ Mark~
  10. I was at the Interview and it was amazingly candid and funny. It was done for Jazz Times and Howard is a contributor for DM so he's just showing a little courtesy for Larry. I asked Lou if it was his first time in Portland and he said "yes, I had to get a passport to get here". He was very friend....got a photo of myself with him....cool guy. m
  11. I've caught him twice in the past several years....not playing well...but I love Donald Byrd!
  12. ...the last time I saw Phil Woods....he was far from "great form". Nothing against Phil as he doesn't need to play another note to cement his place in jazz history....but his playing at this time is very week...limited to a chorus or two. Possible I saw him on a bad night. m
  13. While I love Von...not a fan of Andy's. Too much chatter from the tourists and the last time I was there....they asked us to give up our table after about an hour or so and move to the bar so someone else could sit there...seemed strange as we were still ordering/eating/spending money. We left instead. m
  14. Sorry to miss you at the service; it was well attended by family, friends and many musicians including Mel Rhyne who played piano and organ frequently during the service with many of the other Indy greats. Ran into David Baker and Lida...and then vibist Billy Wooten; chatted with him for about 30 minutes prior to the service. While sad that David is gone, the service was joyous and upbeat like he would have wanted it to be! Regarding more info....I have a couple friends other than the one I turned you on to that have known David for 30-40 years....I can probably help you out there as well. m
  15. Not to mention Freddie.. ...my bad on that one...........and both Aletra and Virtue Hampton...know as the Hampton Sisters (sisters of Slide).
  16. ...several of the Indy greats have left us in the past several years....Pookie, Jimmy Coe, Russell Webster, Dick Dickinson, JJ Johnson and now David....damn!
