It’s a head scratcher, hard to believe Dallas couldn’t have gotten two starters and some picks for Luka. From what I read Doncic is less than fully engaged on conditioning, now he’ll have LeBron as a role model. As to how screwed Doncic is by missing a super max deal, I don’t think he needs to worry about money, the super max is worth a 5% bump.

Don’t know if this has any bearing but I believe the surname Xiques is pronounced hickus.

Good catch on the Sam Rivers song title, spell check let me down (of course it would since the word was capitalized). As to Purple People Eater, I was 2 when it was released but an aunt of mine had the 45 and I heard it a lot as a small child at her house.

Also, the blurb doesn’t mention Lucky Thompson, there oughta be a law.

Sure, I think if you’ve got individual records worth more than, say, $100 probably somewhere around 30-40%. If you’ve got a lot of records of lesser value, probably 25% of what might see as sold online. As I mentioned above, I’ve sold several original Blue Notes with my local guy at auction and got 50%, one was Curtis Fuller, which went for just under $500 another was Mobley’ Roll Call that went for about $1100. I got half and I was happy with that. I’d be curious what others here think.

What’s fair is what you are willing to accept. With access to discogs, popsike and eBay no one here should be in the dark about some estimate of value. Also, I don’t think there are many people getting rich off of selling physical product. There’s a store near me that I’ve patronized over many years. If I’ve got something worth auctioning I bring it to him and he gets 50% of the final eBay price. He pays all the fees etc and he also has 20 plus years of selling on eBay so buyers are more likely to buy from him than they are from me.

Thanks Lon, I’ve had Hillbilly Jazz since it was cutout in the late 1970’s. Good stuff. -

Yeah, thanks. -
Starting with good beans and grinding just before brewing are, I think, more important than brewing method. I mostly pour over but I recently borrowed a nondescript coffee maker for a brunch and was pleasantly surprised with the results. I also try to consume any purchased beans within 30 days of the date roasted.

I have the Bird set, as far as I know most if not all of it has been available in other issues. Peter Losin’s website has a complete listing of the material along with other info (limited to 300 sets etc). I bought mine from Cadence, it arrived with damage to the box but not the records, from what Cadence told me their sets were all damaged. i also had the Bud Powell set which had a more lavish production. I eventually gave to a friend had given me lots of unissued stuff through the years. I ended up with mostly corresponding cds. http://www.plosin.com/MilesAhead/BirdDisco.aspx?id=ParkerBoxLP

Celtic fan since the 1960’s when I listened under the covers with a transistor radio. Thrilled with the changes to this year’s team. OTOH, this core better be good enough because they will be in cap jail when they extend Jrue Holiday. I can hardly believe I don’t miss Marcus Smart.

Richard Vacca blog

I see Richard Vacca has some mentions here for having a book about the Boston jazz scene. I stumbled onto to his site and twenty minutes later was listening to a 1965 recording of Jimmy Mosher taped from a broadcast by WGBH. Originally got there through a searching Serge Chaloff, Vacca has a nice blog entry about Chaloff’s two Capitol dates. Anyway, interesting site.

Don Byas Mosaic set available for pre-order
Tom in RI replied to jazzbo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Just listened to most of disc 1 this morning, there is some significant distortion on track 13 at the end of the tenor solo at about 1:10. Anybody else notice this? -
Doing this from memory but Byas has one side of, I believe, Americans in Europe vol 2 on Impulse. I’ve already told my wife I want I Remember Clifford from this played at my funeral. There are also some decent JATP sides with Byas and others, Getz and Hawkins I think among others.

I will also definitely be getting this set. I used to grab anything that had Byas on it. Anyone care to speculate what a Byas as sideman from before 1944 would look like as far as the number of discs ? -

Another undersung Muse date is Cindy Blackman’s The Oracle with Gary Bartz, Kenny Barron, and Ron Carter. Fast company.
