Finding Nemo DVD Set
Man with the Golden Arm replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
looking forward to this too! beautiful stuff!! aside-there are to be some clues as to the coastal massachusetts in-jokes within the set. director andrew stanton grew up in rockport and based the premise on the fantasies he would create as a kid in the aquarium filled dentist's office (which was actually next door to where my wife and i lived for a while). i know what lon means though, will never match the experience of the big screen. -
Get thee to a Trader Joes...whoa baby just had a few of those dark chocolate covered pretzels of theirs last nite (melted and reformed into a quadruple knot conglomeration). Don't get there much as it's bit of a hike but I'd be happy to zip out a bag next time I go.

Diana Krall...come on, don't be a hater

Great line ! but I do wish they'd lower that bar cause she'd look really good limbo-ing with some some Belafonte in the background. -

Someone slap this thread with a gag order!

Guess if he'd a used that ol' Marlon would still be able to fit in the tub!

Perfect forum for this. I always thought that the Zamboni driver and the organist should be one and the same. I would think it easy enough to stick a Wurlitzer in the cab.

Looney Tunes on DVD
Man with the Golden Arm replied to Big Al's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
AL-Right! Just got this set yesterday from CD Universe. Shipped in one day!!! Have yet to crack it open but can't wait to get into it. Will eagerly await my favorite "Gorilla My Dreams" in future volumes. For some reason my girls don't find thai stuff as belly-achingly funny as I do. Well there will be no more One Saturday Morning at my house. It's on to a strict regimine of a half hour of these every weekend! So what's everybody bitchin' about? (see CNN above) To have just a big smattering of this stuff finally out in this medium is fantastic. That Michigan Frog bit is not even really all that funny anymore. Give me Daffy doing Groucho on mescaline anyday! Struggled through those weirdly ratio-ed lazer disc collections that contained all the oldies, and even the war years that have yet to make it out for fear of political incorrectness, but happily I sold those off before the bottom fell out. Having four discs now followed by some others is the only way to do it. With Brandon on Avery. Those "cartoons for big kids" are essential. I'm sure we will see those soon. Still hoping for some Angry Beavers to see the light. -

Man with the Golden Arm replied to Man with the Golden Arm's topic in Re-issues
Hey RT, was that a T.H. Benton on your previous avatar setting? I liked it! -
Might be available on the net soon enough. Fresh Air! edit for linkage

Heeeeeey, Heeeeeeeey , Heeeeeeeey

Man I must be old cause my lunch box was one of those consruction worker types with a rounded top that housed the thermos behind a 'v' of spring metal. The shape was perfect for the barn and farm animals graphix that adorned it. -
Happy Birthday, Catesta!
Man with the Golden Arm replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Happy Birthday Catesta! I thought of too many captions so I'll leave it at that. -
I think the most recent Ornette on record might be the diddlings he did on Joe Henry's "Scar" album. It also features some Marc Ribot, Brad Meldhau and others and is a very nice disc when paired with Joe's previous "Fuse". Much recommended for those with that urge for an "elvis costello at the cross-roads selling his soul to david byrne" thing.

One of my favorite "real" CD packages was that Willem Breuker Kollektief 'cheese wheel box': -

Too bad they took their design cues from that barrage of AOL tins. Those things are quite handy though for keeping a half a dozen or so burns dust free before tossing around. -
I couldn't imagine havin' just one. You go girl!

NYC : where to eat? music stores?
Man with the Golden Arm replied to Tjazz's topic in Recommendations
Any downtowners know whether 'Zete Peabody's Sugar Reef Cafe' on lower Second Ave. is still in business there or anywhere. That was the livest place to go for food and tunage from the lower hemisphere about ten years ago. -
The Holiday Music Section
Man with the Golden Arm replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Timely thread daganabbit, since it was in the twenties and snowed in Massachusetts yesterday! Obviously for this board the Jimmy Smith Verve is classic. I always toss Jackie McLean's "Nicely" onto the yule mix. Has that wintery feel to me. And cap off the set with Clusone 3's "White Christmas". -
I really love those conga sides. To me it represents that Latin swank that is other side of the Blue Note sound of the late fifties. Having never heard 'Light Foot' nor 'Midnight Sun' I guess I'm sitting on the fence regarding that Mosaic.

The Orgies

I'm visualizing the actual mantle piece as a be-guilded chitlins garbed neo-hip icon festooned in a whirling leslie beret whilst teaming minions are cavorting and debauching around his plinth. Have to have one of these sculpted up. -
Thankfully no problem on my 'FSS' and of course the opposite goes for the last half of 'Sonic Boom' . And skeith, I can't say Tony is "down in the mix" any more so than Carter is. The drums sound phenomenal on this one and I can do with less treble than was evident on the brittle Mosaic. For the most part to my ears many a Blue Note silver disc from the early days has that hiss and crackle cropping up somewhere.

That's hilarious jacknife. I don't think it's the shirt at all but maybe those cute little palm trees on the flannel sheets. Wait til that little monkey man sells his lucky coconuts.

Ace label / BGP (beat goes public) two-fer called "The Loop / New and Groovy". Gotta be available over there. Make sure to cull out the cheese for the ultimate in grease. ACE The other double is 'Got That Feeling! / Moon Child' or the OJC of The Village Caller. You can get a few of his cuts comped elsewhere but that first one is the key.

Credit where credits due my man. Sent that slippery-er than silicone wafer to SS1 ways back and glad to see he's hefted it to someone most appreciative. That Lytle stuff is killer. You should grab the real-deal off of Dusty. Worth every penny. And even more kudos to MikeB who painstakingly clued me into a bulk of Johnny's post "Loop and Groovy" LP sides. Been discovering a select few more Lytle tidbits as of late but unfortunately his cannon is in need of some serious merkin swabbin'.
