  1. Don Pullen and Jack Bruce: "Rawalpindi Blues" from 'Darn It: Paul Haines / Kip Hanrahan'. You can almost see Don's knuckles coming through the speakers. Just freakin' beautiful stuff!!! oh yeah ubu! "Ain't Necessarily So"...Yikes!!! come to think of it "Blue Pepper" from FES! "Snagglepuss" from Naked City.
  2. Ned Rothenberg's "The Crux"
  3. don't know whether this has formerly, or formally, been posted but i just wanted to say that "little j" is one cute babe. great to see the progress in avatars. now how much does dexter charge for baby sitting these days? we can barely get ours to put dishes in the sink let alone solo on the saximophone.
  4. ...and also on Clusone 3's Soft Lights Sweet Music. The whole family likes Hipsters holiday. B)
  5. ol' roger's packing some serious favas there boys n girls...tommy can ya feel me
  6. ...or roger daltrey...the who were all about the beans, eh?
  7. I'd love to hear you guys shread and funk up some Vervy Jimmy Smith, like some of the Lalo groovers or "Ape Woman".
  8. Don't know why I've never posted this but right up the road is the inventor's digs-The HAMMOND Castle! Looks like a fine excuse for a summertime pilgrimage for the Organissimos. The front door of the joint: Mr. Hammond's little toy: and after checking this out you will "head" right over to the humble abode of the inventor of the flush toilet at Cranes Castle (or rent "the Witches of Eastwick"): where you will play to throngs of folk: while nestled in the rear facade of the castle: while over looking this: sounds like a plan to me jazzbos...plus it'll rock those stuffy folks down to their whale belts.
  9. Probably been discussed on the old BNBB (& I know it's all about the music) - but, would anyone care to weigh in on the quality or even the ethos of the Vee Jay catalogue as documented by Blue Moon, Barcelona. I see items re-re-issued by Collectables and Koch but having recently purchased a Koch release I have snobbily chalked up their quality as one to be wary of. Thanks.
  10. now that it's the morning after...hope you had a great one!
  11. Very fresh couw...I am now waiting for Mr. Shat Cat to pop his head from the bell!!! You can see by my limited photoshopability that I perceive this album a tad more optomistic than it's morose original...I guess Mr. Miles was holding onto all that straight magenta for Hutch and Moncur.
  12. another fresh air haiku for you...upcoming today are two new releases by "The Art Ensemble of Chicago" reviewed by Kevin W.
  13. impossible has tagged me for the next pick. Sam Rivers - FUCHSIA SWING SONG (click here to buy) certain most everybody here has this title in one incarnation or another now that the disc is readily available as a connoisseur. while i know much has been written about it i am curious to hear some more visceral takes on what is probably one of my favorite albums (considering that i only first heard it in it's entirety with the release of the mosaic set). i have passed copies of this along to many, championing that it is the most solid showcase for that bridge from everything before the middle of the sixties to what is the future.
  14. i guess $16 ain't a bad price for one disc, considering disc two is a toss and how can one listen to jungleland w/o meeting across the river as prelude? and one would think the 'boss' might have some say so in what's handed out to the public. maybe you can find this for the essential version of small things!
  15. just picked this up per the recs here. excellent disc. very fresh reading of blues connotation! anyone able to compare the koch to the blue moon? this koch sounds as if there's about five ton of goose down in the mix. someone must have leaned on the bass knob, shows how great van gelder allowed blakey to sound!!!
  16. check out the folds at the bottom of lou's london fog! beauty!!
  17. "mmmmmmmmmmmoooooose"
  18. just curious as i really enjoyed lurking at the last couple and would like to join in on the fun. i will delete this topic if it has been so decided and i'm just missing the link.
  19. Well I asked before about Ware's "Threads" and getting to the bottom of it decided it was not my cup o tea. Here we have another release, "The Sorcerer Sessions", on the Thirsty Ear label and AMG again gives this one up as the greatest disc since who knows when. I gave some snippets a spin to see if it's the honest truth. My urge is to go to Particle and Reformation for just a laff. I can't help but think someone over at TE is pullin' Thom's Jurek. Thirsty Ear and Shipp might now be on one of those David Murray crusades. But seriously can anyone honestly shed some light on this?
  20. the rollins is outstanding!!! nice if you could put some strut in cool struttin'!
  21. Possibly in need of his own thread but I was on a bit of a Gainsbourg rant a while back and have the J et C discs as well as these Mercury comps: Would you all have any recommendations or favorites for this genre that is most leaning to the Les Loups, Strip Tease etc...I just can't seem to warm up to much of Gainsbourg's later pop / psychedelic cinema work but his afro-cuban grooves kill me. Also are there more jazz leaning sides from his alliances (er liasons) with les femmes that come to mind as essential (while i know those early Jane Birkin lp covers would be)?
  22. up! any reviews so far??
