I'm really only posting so that I can be a Supa Groover! I've always thought the more the merrier as far a getting tunes to dig into. But I wholeheartily agree with Ray. It could be very easy to get a double time going with several tracks that weigh out at 10 - 17 minutes in length like Randy's test. Being on the other end and only being able to burn at 4X on my Mac I can attest to the fact that making up eighty discs versus forty could be quite a task!! This may have been mentioned previously but the main plus across the board for a singular session might be that the turnaround of participants would come a bit quicker. People are already disgruntled that they won't be making a BFT until after we find Osama.

Blindfold Test Frequently Asked Questions
Man with the Golden Arm replied to randyhersom's topic in Blindfold Test
After wrangling all the emails and requests I've compiled an address list with moniker in my text edit and have been working thru it as I burn along and pack 'em up. Quickly my idea is this: in a chain letter kind of way I can include this list and send it along to the next compiler via e-mail (Jim Dye BFT #8), so that way it will make it easier for him to just cut and paste onto the disk mailers as he sees fit or not. That compiler could forward the list along to the next and so on. Additons and deletions would be handled by the compiler based upon who signs up. Just to get one little step out of the way might make it much easier. Just a thought. -

Sorry Mike I was editing as you posted above... I've never heard his post seventies work either but i do have a very gruvy version of "The NEW Village Caller" on one of those "Dance Classics" cobble-ations. Saweeet as the kids say! And I love the tidbit that he was a prize winning middle-weight, right?

When I put up that vote he was tied for first! Now look at him. I got a Lytle bug a couple o summers ago (and many thanks to Mike Bonds who sent me a couple of painfully well put together comps from his lps) and must have listened to a Lytle mix for weeks on end. Those two on the Loop / New and Groovy twofer are just killin' as well. I stay away from his pat renderings of standards but his original stuff is down right the snappiest of all the vibists if I had my druthers. I love how he puts down that whirling shimmer. I tried my best to work in a rare Lytle cut onto my blindfold but alas it just was too mod for it's own good. I'm a sucker for those cheesy exotica tips as well, especially with a little Barretto spread on the bottom.. I've only recently begun to get into the chimes, and yes need to check out Walt Dickerson after hearing the snippet on Randy's test. Anybody weigh in on Pike's Atlantic "Jet Set" disc if only for Hancock on the organ?? And might MikeW have any commentary on the 'Dave Pike SET' that recorded in Germany in the early '70s. From my minute amount of searching there is a vanguard of guitarists, one Volker Kreigel, doing some extraordinary stuff?? Sounds interesting.

32 on the docket. European and UK out today. Almost all the usual suspects. Still time for more... I'll be sending out the domestics at the end of the week as I know that most of you will be so swarmed with Valentines that it will take some time to get back to business. -
Any one else notice that Alicia "key-synched" on her tribute. For some reason the ivories never went up and down as they say. And her hands were in the wrong places as well. Maybe she played rhythm piano? Was I imagining this?

Did you see the glorious tribute to Artie Shaw
Man with the Golden Arm replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Chick played absolutely beautiful notes like he probably does now in his sleep, when all the while the Foo Fighters guy was trying his best to shake the Tenex out of his hair and onto the ivories (like one of those cool buddy duets between nearly aging rocker and rhythm section minion) but since Chick was asleep he didn't mind. I think maybe they were conjuring some sort of David Sancious / Springsteen thing but then again one can't conjure up talent. -
Re: Paris Moods? Does the rhythm w/ Terrason play acoustic or electric bass in support? edit: I think I found my answer. What Kevin said!

Looking for Nighstand CD Player/Clockradio
Man with the Golden Arm replied to Brad's topic in Audio Talk
I've got one of these Tivoli radios next to me (it's great and I even got rid of my Terk FM Pro antenna) at work since I rely on my fidelity elsewhere for really listening. Surprised they have not come up with something a bit more to your specs. If you have a bunch of nightstands this might work though. Still pricey!! -
ss....Might you have a link for CDUniverse that blankets this new series? Thanks!

As mailing of the discs or disks nears please look to the initial post here and see if you are included. Just to double check me, any names I have listed above have sent me an e-mail with their address. If you are not on that list please do forward an e-mail as I may have overlooked something or missed the e-mail, okeedokey. Thanks! -

Just an update- I now have 28 on the list so far and from the looks of it BFT #6 will be "officially" answered by the first of next week. I will try my best to get the European mailings out by then and follow up with the stateside distribution. I know there is much discussion after the facts have been revealed, as there already has been much great reception for Randy's discs, so hopefully a week's lag won't be to long. Any comments welcome. -

1-5 well i'm out again with that silly guess and unfortunately in between the above posts so c & j are on. having googled it would be some long out of print trio on the Catalyst label? that is a fantastic cut and it's been the one i've listened to the most thus far. those pieces that strike you as redundant upon first exposure are invariably the ones that tend to reveal the most. if it is this, then thank you rh for letting us all have the pleasure. -

re: 1-5 Just to toss up a guess, as "we have too many users right now" must be because of all this, but, when Snow White makes a wish does she look down into a _________? -

Blindfold Test #6 Discussion
Man with the Golden Arm replied to randyhersom's topic in Blindfold Test
Boy track five on the first disc has me the most entranced right now. It is definitely tooooo long for me but that's a silly reason to shruff it off. The three horsemen (actually one's a couw) here say it's Mal Waldron and I'm not really all that familiar wit his work. If it is then I need to be ejamacated. As Jsngry states that it seems like the pianist is about to blow, my googling leads me to the acknowledgement that a decade before this cut, if it is Mal, he suffered a breakdown and needed to relearn some aspects of his playing from there. That the creative mind can be so hardened by so much yet so frail is a continuing mystery. This is one heavy track and should not be so maligned (pun pardoning). I recall John Zorn describing Tristano's fingers as made of "sledgehammers" and that's not far off mark here - maybe 'ball peens'. That little redundant elementary figure after 00:39... that is called out in a previous post, is really like some native american dervish akin to Pullen's "Common Ground" playing. Please tell me more, oh those on the mountain top.
