  1. i gotta love them rebates where they pay you to buy them!
  2. Well this track is knocking me out!!! Thjanks for including this. It's very reminiscent of some of that big-band trash Bjork was doing a while back (she obviosly listened hard to this), maybe if she was only fronting some gig with Michael Moore (not the fat one), so I'm narrowing my sites to seas much colder that the Rhine. RDK, would we even have a clue as to who this might be??? Is this some weird Capitol session that we will all be surprised about?? The charts are a bit 'straighter' than the usual tulip dibbling variety and I'm feeling it's the pianist's date or a whole collaborative? and... What's up w/ the cut at the end???
  3. NO AAAACK, not the blinkineye avatar... how many times i've just scrolled down to get by that! Now Mutley one the other paw....
  4. Having heard none of the Kelly material I am wondering what one's impressions might be of the "Kelly Great" session with Shorter and Morgan? Wished they would have tossed that 35 minutes onto both just for grins.
  5. Happy Birthday Mr. Nessa! ...and who's that good lookin' guy in the studio w/ Warne in them wonderful liner notes?? ps:Pantone Violet and 240 to Carla
  6. Guess it does go with the territory and the cream will always rise to the top. I say you just "calls-em-like-ya-sees-'em" Unfortunately, the same seems to go for trading or even selling discs through the 'board'. I'm much more likely to get a thank you e-mail as well as some positive feedback from an eBay buyer than ...
  7. Well, I've googled post post and this track is not the one I thought but it is named after the tenor I believe, so don't go by me. B)
  8. I frankly did not hear it the first couple of times as I usually lower the volume at the front. But now it's a serendipitous voice from on high.
  9. The bonus-disc once she gets over all the others: Then she'll think your'e really crazy.
  10. Ralph Steadman's Zinfandel take on The Pope. It's subtle yet oaky nose with hint's of chocolate and dried leukocytes go great with Bacon.
  11. Maybe it's a "later years" thing but this trumpet player was getting on here and I feel, just my opinion, it has a very purposeful stagger to it.
  12. I've only perused a few posts but...Oh man... I have been meaning to hear this! That track was a highlight here. Thanks for the turn on. "Some people just don't get it!"
  13. Just got this one yesterday and gave it a listen and a half... Excellent set!!! I am certain it will provoke lots of discussion . 1) What a crazy (and Handy) opener! Those talking tympani bombs are something out of a cartoon. (maybe piano music for a pack of hungry cannibals). Is that Duke? This is a fantastic cut and thanks for starting this up so interestingly! (i surprised myself that i knew this title at least and did not hear the opening call to arms on my first spin) 2) Love this toasty first line and that 'winchester cathedral' hookem. We should all know the name, I presume? This is reason one here for when all these redundant reggae heads who budge in at a party and have to toss on some disc that they bought on a trip to Jamaica and it all sounds the same all the while dissing good jazz and it's cousins. Here in is the root! Lock the door, open the bathroom window, twist it up and roll. 3) "Ain't this peculiar"...Man I must beg your segue manners here. Gil Scott Heron ? no... too obvious. nice... next... 4) Oh that buzz I got from the deuce at the beginning is wearing off. A beauty though in that Pablo Zeigler without as much Argentinian meat. This is a keeper! 5) Hoo, yeah! Is this some M-Boom Roach thing??? 6) Very sweet... was this a bonus track on Alexander's test? "Invitation to a Kiss" ? 7) Another keeper but no idea. 8) Your segue knack is back! No idea on this bari. Gorgeous!! 9) Pepper's Witchi Tai To by some more modern talker drum intro and now the pianist is who to identify?... have to come back to this but I've never actually liked this song, usually... 10) My little Ruarks are smiling at this drummer. The title's on my tongue... oh it's over... got to think some more here... 11) Porgy done by one of them wacky Dutch bands?? Has a bit of electronica sound to the recording... now vox... what a send up here... like from some Baz Luhrman soundtrack? 12) No clue, but a stunning sound you got on this disc... 13) Some standard I've never ever heard. Thanks! 14) From here: 'bfahk' Always remember this for the drunken sounding "Blue" on trumpet and that the guy on the sax has such a cool name for a dish of "bird of paradise done up with a nice pesto". As I do not have this I will bet a dollar it get's it's namesake from Don Cherry. 15) Nice segue as this sounds more like the piano player from the last cut than he did there. No clue but this is another great piece. 16) Nice way to end the set. This is a very fine disc Ray and one that I will come back to many times!!! Thanks, you did good. Now do I check the threads or hop on disc 2? (edit for sp)
  14. Curious if anyone has heard this in it's entirety. Probably, 'nah'. I've only checked some samples and it sounds a bit more wholesome than The President records and more worldly than Zony Mash. At the least check out the sample of "Pop Client".
  15. ya beat me! one of the best crankers!! Ellington - "Blue Pepper - Far East of the Blues" Far East Suite Coleman - "Ramblin'" Change of... Pullen / Hanrahan / Jack Bruce - "Rhawalpindi Blues" Darn It! Zorn / Berne / Baron / Vachter - "Feet Music" Spy v Spy Bennett - "The Moment of Truth"
  16. Man the only way I'm going for this is if there is about two fingers of that ariceffron sinsemilla special blend under that vacu-form liner. But for some reason I forgot what set that was, though.
  17. What a good idea for pulling up a parallel. Whilst I can't see your attached image you are spot on with Bacon. I feel like a 'vegetarian walking into the butcher shop' these days and Francis certainly expressed much of that feel. I also think Picasso's "Guernica" much expresses today's world in all of it's blue gray horror.
  18. Back before the first Gulf War the title of this thread meant more than just a "modest proposal". Our town crackpot drives a brand new one of these. About $120K. And he keeps a huge stuffed carny tiger in the passenger seat w/ him for company. You'd think he could afford a Steiff.
  19. This might have been discussed but I'm curious as to whether these two might just be becoming the "rarest" of the Mosaics (aside from early LP sets, of course). If the license prevented Mosaic from going full tilt to 5,000 units, then would a set that has only produced a much lesser number than most be very desirable even if it's contents can be had elsewhere? And does anyone know what the average production run is on these sets? I believe Kevin had posted that some sets rarely reached halfway beforew they were put out to pasture. And if DrJ doesn't get a free t-shirt and a snazzy CD opener for this...
  20. I walked into it half way last nite and The Simpsons had Bart escaping from some school dance (?) to the cue of "Colour My World"...
  21. Begs the question, Groucho: "what's a Dankworth?"
  22. shrink... what a coinkydink... i just returned from the mail box and find that State Street is having the private sale this weekend May 15 -16. 603 436 7047. Portsmouth NH. and no pay no interest til 2005....
  23. Speaking of Selling England by the Pound... and as a one time land locked Ohioan I always wondered about this:
  24. Well since the test is an All-American thing I think spitting and grabbing your crotch tipped the hat to Manny...
  25. I picked up the 541i last summer up in N.H. at State Street Discounters big sale (since it's going to be a nice weekend i'd give them a call and see what the scoop is, I know the Cambridge Audio Lab and Q are ususally a bit more to retail) and am completely happy with it. It's in my studio so it gets lots of work and has made this small set up here sound much better than the house's. Looks like the only cosmetic change is in the pair of skip and scan controls. Don't know what else they did to the new one in the gut, but I remember they really overhauled the line at the 541 stage. I paid about $250 for it with all the discounts and promos. The unit is solid and seems to ride much smoother than the older NADs. I can't make any A/B comparisons but would give this a thumbs up especially considering all the "software" you could buy while keeping your gear choice under three bills. ...and like deus sez, it has been a bit wacky in trying to pick up tracks when skimming thru CDRs from others such as the BFT discs but my Mac burnt discs have yet to encounter a problem so I think it less the player than the discs themselves. It does always find what it's looking for.
