  1. Crap! I have been in and out sporadically over the last few weeks but this is new,bad news. I want to say thanks to Jim for his patience and time keeping the board up and running in spite of mechanical mishaps and all the political garbage flying around but if there is another way please let us all know. As an occasional contributor I'd gladly pay a sub on a yearly basis. I honestly feel like I could put an 'identity' against the handles that have become oh so familiar over the last few years; it will feel like a load of kindred spirits lost in the ether. I don't know anyone who appreciates the same music as I. Good luck with the family stuff Jim and hope the band keeps at it. Thanks. Edit: my email is antonymckenna@hotmail.com
  2. You've just made me go and order that!
  3. Both are from paintings by Kenneth Noland, so you can't be faulted too hard. Bit 'off topic' Clifford but is this the only time Blue Note has used works of art other than it's own in house design team? Interesting to know; particularly as these are such visually striking pieces.
  4. That list is way too short.
  5. no, i'm talking b*llocks it's this one
  6. The two that spring to mind for me (or three now) are Konitz's version with Mehldau and Haden on Blue Note; cant't remember which disc it's on -- the first with the V shaped stripes on the cover I think. Sinatra's off Only The Lonely --- harrowing Louis and Ella on Verve.
  7. Just got back from fantastic performance by the Lithuanian National Phil. The programme was Nielsen Symphony No.1, Rachmaninov Piano Conc No.1 and the Brahms 3. Freddie Kempf was the soloist for the Rach. Now I'll just have to get a copy of that Nielsen!
  8. This: and this: arrived in the post today.
  9. Conn's birthday.....check! Mate. Have a good one.
  10. That one must go way back. Is the implication that all these old laws are still on the books? But fortunately it's still OK to call the royal family a bunch of sponging in-breds
  11. One more latecomer to the party...all the best GA!
  12. All the very best!
  13. Got my cancellation notice this morning too. Oh well. It is a poor way to run business and I'll be sending an email too for what it's worth (the site is experiencing high demand this morning now though....is it a long letter you're sending Ubu? )
  14. Needed to bump this thread for Evan because this is available at a very good price from HMV and Amazon in the UK. If you need an order putting in.....let me know!
  15. Well if there's no bonification, the first to cross the line will be in yellow that night! Then when they all finish together on the secopnd and third days...? Hmmm. then it goes to the points they acquire as a matter of course each day. Oh. Sounds thrilling. That's stage racing for you
  16. Well if there's no bonification, the first to cross the line will be in yellow that night! Then when they all finish together on the secopnd and third days...? Hmmm. then it goes to the points they acquire as a matter of course each day.
  17. There can never be a bad time to talk about this album. It's, well...perfect!
  18. Well if there's no bonification, the first to cross the line will be in yellow that night!
  19. Those first three days should be fun through Brittany! No prologue so 180 riders galloping for the yellow.... If any board members need accommodation in that area please let me know. I know of a very nice cottage slap bang in the centre of the region which makes it easy to see all three stages.
  20. Yep. but on a very small scale. I have an Earmax Pro headphone amp and upon buying it I was interested to see how different tubes affect the sound quality and signature. It is fairly simple with three tubes (one input and two output) but so far i've spent a bit on changing them. I haven't sold on any that I have replaced. So far: some NOS Mullard EC88 from mid 60's goldpins a 'cheapo Mullard' 12AT7 one Telefunken ECC81 one Telefunken NOS EC801S from late '60s two Amperex PQ 'Orange label' 6DJ8 NOS from late '60s goldpins two Amperex 'Bugle Boy' of dubious origin (can't determine print code) I would like to try some Telefunken ECC88 CCa which are supposed to be even better. I have yet to try the Brimar or Valvo brands. Its all harmless fun.
  21. But judging by the results so far we could probably do with a classical music section........
  22. We could talk about Norah Jones?
  23. I noticed that yesterday....two cheap deals followed by a seller offering the set for over £100! I still have the same estimated dispatch dates of 16-24th Oct and have not yet received that email
