  1. Same here! Anyone tried Safari by the way? I had major problems with it. It is the Beta version but it did seem a PITA.
  2. Thanks Tom, looks very flat, should be a quick one Check on Snilesworth, that'll be part of my route tomorrow.
  3. yeah Tom, lots of tweaking! But once you find comfort...keep everything just as it is! In 22 years of riding my position has changed from day one but for the last 15-16 years it's been pretty much the same. A transition to longer cranks (from 172.5 to 175mm), longer stem, the saddle is slightly further behind the bottom bracket and the saddle height has dropped slightly. It does sound like you have a case of Easter Knees so more miles and better condition should rectify it. Don't hesitate to see a physio though if it persists or gets worse. Some buddies to ride with may help you identify a strange riding position. Where to this weekend then? If you don't mind give me a general wherabouts so I can 'Google Earth' it! (I love looking at parts of the world that I'd love to cycle in) Cheers!
  4. Hi Tom, T.D could be right about the knees but it may also be caused by either a saddle height that is a bit too high or a bit too low or having your shoeplates (cleats) set up incorrectly. One of those things that's a bit of trial and error I'm afraid. Where is the soreness? If it feels like it's coming from behind the kneecap then it may be gearing too high or saddle height, if it's coming from one particular side of the knee then it may be your foot is toe'd in or out a bit too much. Also shoeplate set up may cause the ball of the foot to be too far fore or aft of the pedal spindle. If you're pedalling 'tip-toed', then soreness may result here. Try to borrow a home trainer if you can, and then you have a bit more freedom to tinker with saddle/shoe position etc. one last thing about knees; it may be that you are simply 'building' them up...going from little to a lot of miles with increased effort used to be called Easter Knees in this country --- a symptom of underprepared riders embarking upon the racing season which gets underway end of February! I'm glad the miles are rolling more 'easily' for you though. It's a drug once they start whizzing by! Good luck mate.
  5. I suppose if I were to divide my life into definite periods, then the notable 'happy' ones would always be tempered by pretty lousy spells; like for example the birth of my son (2001) to present day. He's definitely been the best things to happen to me so far but I've had to put up with a lot of crap over the last 3 years. Likewise, the absolutely shitty periods were always punctuated by life-affirming events. The only exception being my first seven or eight years which weren't that great. Period. When I was a younger man I was totally immersed in cycling which allowed me to experience some awesome things but I never really took it all in. I'm hoping my rudderless life will take a productive turn but I suppose just 'hoping' isn't enough... As many have sung "The best is yet to come and babe, won't it be fine?"
  6. How's the sound quality on these compared to the German ZYXYXZ issues?

  13. Rain/Sun Rain/Sun Rain/Sun Rain/Sun.......ad infinitum
  14. That is one hell of an album. One of the best of 2006 IMO. I've been hearing good things about it and wanted to hear it. If you enjoy the French duo Air, then you'll love it anyway! They provide the music whilst the songwriters Jarvis Cocker and Neil Hannon (Pulp and The Divine Comedy respectively) do the lyrics. If you listen carefully you'll be able to tell which man wrote which song. Ms. Gainsbourg provides the gorgeous voice and the phwoar factor.
  15. That's a good one!! It is indeed! I'm on a real Wiclo thing at the moment; they can do no wrong --- just managed to get Summerteeth of FleaBay for less than £2 too. This morning this arriived:

  18. Chavs and wankers - 2 reasons I stay out of GB. Nah - it's chavs, wankers and toffs. Let's not get all nationalistic....you never know where it might lead us
  19. Stood browsing the diminishing jazz section in the local HMV when a couple of 'chavs' walked past. One of them muttered "wanker's music"!
  20. PM re. above thanks Mike.
  21. Never, ever, attempt to thumb wrestle with an ex-cobbler. Especially a blind one
  22. AFAIK the Fitzwilliams were in personal contact with the composer, so this bears the stamp of authenticity. When I bought the Borodin's it was of course, pointed out to me that they aren't complete as Shostakovich hadn't yet composed the last two string quartets. For this reason I bought the Emerson's too and I'm very happy to have both although it's never a bad thing to have multiple interpretations. I'm eager to try out his sonatas for violin etc. but the last few purchases have been the Mishca Maisky Cello Concertos on DG, the Neem Jarvi Chandos Violin Concertos and the Alexeev Piano Concertos on EMI. All very highly recommended from various circles and rightly so, the performances and sound are amazing.
  23. F*ck Dave's Birthday.....who's the blondie? All the best David...give yourself a fast '10' to celebrate
