  1. There is already an advance promo copy of the Basie Columbia 4 CD set on eBay. It has to be a compilation with 89 tracks. I guess it's greatest selling point is the almost 1 CD worth of unreleased tracks. I was wishing for a complete Count Basie Columbia set.
  2. Donny Hathaway was a very special artist. I've been hoping for a long time that Rhino does one of their 2 CD anthology for Donny.
  3. I'll also have to mention Sam Cooke. Aretha Franklin next.
  4. That CD can be ordered at www.mymusic.com. It's not a bargain priced CD however.
  5. I see that shrugs has a copy of the Marmalade King CD for auction on eBay with a couple days left. You never predict the final price though. I've seen a new copy of Special Detail for $12 online a couple months ago. I didn't realize its scarcity.
  6. I was a little bit surprised about the quality of the J.J. Johnson Mosaic. Definitively recommended.
  7. My 5 favorite Conns are: J.R. Monterose Andrew Hill - Judgment Wayne Shorter - Etcetera Larry Young - Into Something Julius Watkins Volumes 1&2 Only a couple Conns that are not among my favorites: Sonny Red - Out Of The Blue Donald Byrd - Byrd In Flight
  8. When I read that sellers description of the Louis Smith I knew it was a load of bull. The Louis Smith CD as a Conn or TOCJ averages about $15-$20. Of course this is a seller who used to be a buyer picking up Total Ecplise and Tippin' the Scales CDs for close to $100 each.
  9. Joe Gordon- Lookin' Good Booker Ervin- The In Between Bobby Hutcherson- Medina
  10. I'm glad I caught the Sandy Denny radio broadcast. I haven't listened to her music for a long time and it's great to rediscover Sandy Denny.
  11. I was going to keep the Japanese mini-LP version of Jimmy Woods Conflict CD but when I heard it was going to have 3 alternate takes I decided to put it on auction. I don't really care for the mini-LP type CDs. Definitely 57 minutes of Jimmy Woods is better than 37 minutes (Japan version)
  12. Thelonious Monk and Professor Longhair are two of my favorite musicians. Both are unique artists. Great to have Shrugs aboard!
  13. I don't believe Stanley Turrentine is considered that hard to find on CD. I remember that title sitting on the shelves of a Virgin store for a couple of years. I 've seen it online on several occasions. But then again titles such as Sonic Boom or the TOCJ Procrastinator CD where available for about $12 over 2 years ago and sat on the shelves untouched for a month or two in a local retail store and have since become quite scarce. A lot of the US Blue Note titles from the late 1980's and early 1990's disappeared quickly like the already mentioned Stanley Turrentine That's Where It's At or Leo Parker Let Me Tell You Bout It.
  14. I listen to Etcetera the most often of Wayne Shorter BN dates.
  15. Jug Satchmo Slide Brute Judge Rabbit Josh Mex Stuff
  16. Baylor is an excellent Ebay seller. I am a little suprised that he has so many mutiple out of print CDs in jazz, rock, etc with a great deal of oop Blue Notes. He does stagger the titles every month or so. The CDs are usually sealed but looked to be picked up from the retail racks as the CDs usually have shop worn covers or a little torn plastic. He must have searched high and low in US and Canada to have so many available oop CDs continuously. I agree that his closing auctions are too early for me on the west coast.
  17. Today: Ralph Peterson Quintet: Volition Tommy Flanagan: Giant Steps Bob Brookmeyer : Traditional Revistited Beg, Scream & Shout : Disc 2 Can You Dig It?: Disc 5 Coleman Hawkins: Hollywood Stampede
  18. I noticed the awful color cover of the True Blue CD selling by spanichi and his other Blue Notes. It will probably sell more than the real deal.
  19. The Dizzy Gillespie Proper set is an excellent choice . The Dizzy Proper was the lastest Jazz Journal record of the year.
  20. Hopefully buyers will not buy these European low cost imports and realize what will be the future be for American Jazz reissues when Europe can undercut the small market as it is for reissues.
