Favorite guitarist from this list
Jim Alfredson replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Recommendations
Had to vote for Wes. Everytime I listen to him I'm amazed. -
As I've mentioned in other posts, I'm in West Virginia at the moment doing a corporate show for Ford (the video editing aspect) but I'm currently working the gig aspect of it as well. Next year we're in San Francisco!! And the band they had playing the comedy night here at the Greenbrier this trip was an "organ" trio, but they were lame as hell. The guy didn't even have a real Hammond. Huey Lewis, the talent for the BIG night tonight (the last night of the awards) has a REAL Hammond on stage (a beautiful 1956 mahogany B3). Anyway, I'm trying to make it happen!

Could this be the fate of the new BNBB?
Jim Alfredson replied to Ed S's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Neon, Thank you for your reasoned and rationale response. As the co-owner, band member, and moderator of this board I appreciate your candor and quick action to put the clamp on that clown, MusicBoy. As you've no doubt seen, this is a group of very friendly people, with all sorts of backgrounds and ideas that enjoy discussing music and life in general. We are not troublemakers. I hope we can create a friendly relationship between our two boards in the spirit of good music and discussion. -
I love you too, Sangry! Your post in the other thread was brilliant and I thank you for taking a stand. To everyone else who has stood up for the free speech and democracy we enjoy on this board, thank you as well.

Favorite Organist not on the 1st poll

Damn. That null vote button is a bitch. Anyway, you should've included Groove Holmes. And Dan Wall. He's groovy! -
Favorite organist from this list
Jim Alfredson replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Recommendations
As Soul Stream already mentioned, the absence of Don Patterson is a damn crime, but that said I voted for McGriff. Why? Well, I just felt bad for him. Actually, I love McGriff's playing. Obviously Jimmy Smith is the master and unbeatable. Next up for me would be Larry Young. Then Patterson tied with McDuff. Then Patton tied with Scott. The Holmes and McGriff. It's so hard to choose. I have to say I've been listening to a lot of Smith lately. I agree that Scott's influence on modern organists is pervasive. "One For Me" is a brilliant record. -
Texas ain't too far. I'd be willing to make the trek. Or hell, with plane tickets as cheap as they are, we might be able to fly him up to Michigan for a few days if he'd cut us some slack on his day rate! How about it brotha?

I can't really get into this because I'm stilll working in West Viriginia, but two quick thoughts with a prefix: These are my thoughts and not necessarily the thoughts of my fellow band members. 1) This forum completely embraces the concept of free speech. I am not going to censor anyone unless they start posting lewd pictures or verbally threatening someone. 2) I would rather play in my living room for the rest of my life for and with myself than bow down to some pissant "industry insider" threatening me and my career. To the very idea that you can somehow keep me from making a living in the music industry I say, very heartily... Fuck You. I play what I want to play, I say what I want to say. I have never attacked you or your board nor have any members of my band. The posters from this board who posted on your board did not post anything inflammatory or lewd. As to your self-righteous Christian indignation, you are the worst example of a Christian I've ever had the displeasure of running across. This board has a little over 240 members. 240 people out of the over 5 billion that live on this planet. 240 out of the millions upon millions that buy CDs. I'm sure these industry "bigwigs" you know really care what happens here.

Could this be the fate of the new BNBB?
Jim Alfredson replied to Ed S's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Ed, I am not asking you to do anything. You did nothing wrong. I don't care if you go over there and start posting thread after thread saying that Norah Jones is carrying your illegitimate love child. What I was trying to tell the guy is I have no right to try to stop you from posting things on HIS board. He wants me to delete this thread, but that would be a crime against humanity. It's too damn funny! -
Disney to Begin Renting 'Self-Destructing' DVD's
Jim Alfredson replied to Templejazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Wouldn't it be nice if all Disney movies would self-destruct and we wouldn't have to watch them at all anymore? How about all the Elton John Lion King records too, including the master tapes. Man, I can think of thousands of movies/records I would love to have self-destruct never to return. Alas, such a fantasy. -

Could this be the fate of the new BNBB?
Jim Alfredson replied to Ed S's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Oh my my my, fellow friends. I've been out of town doing a show in West Virginia for the week and what do I find in my email when I finally have the time to check it but a plea from someone at the Norah Jones board asking me to ask you all to stop trolling and causing a ruckus. Well, I'm not going to tell any of you what to do. The internet is the ultimate realization of free speech and democracy and if someone can't take it, that's their problem. Here's the full email: Well, I'll respond to this myself, and I hope by posting this everyone will realize that these folks have some sensitivities and think twice before registering just to make a fuss, but honestly, I am not going to tell you all what to do and I think it's kind of funny. If you want to flame the crap out of the board, that's your perogative. If you want to spam them to hell, that's your perogative. Just so everyone knows, including any Norah Jones members that may be lurking around, this is a free board. I do not censor anyone unless they personally and purposely attack someone in a threatening way. Everything else goes. And I have no control over what the members of this board do on SOMEONE ELSE'S SITE. What the hell is that?!?! Have fun, everyone and hello from W. Virigina!!!! -
BERIGAN - why can't I see you Avatar???
Jim Alfredson replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Forums Discussion
I believe it's a bandwidth issue. If too many people access the image on any given day, tripod starts restricting the flow of data. Try uploading the avatar instead of using a link to it. -
Good news. Doug Carn just signed on and is very enthusiastic about the idea. That means we have three organists slated (myself, Bill Heid, and Doug) and we're currently trying to get at least one more (Dr. Lonnie Smith... we'll be talking to him this Memorial Day weekend) and perhaps Sam Yahel. Coolness!

Dr. Lonnie Smith - Boogaloo to Beck
Jim Alfredson replied to Man with the Golden Arm's topic in New Releases
Yes indeed it was. -
My main interaction with people of other races is through music. Most of the minorities I meet are musicians. Lansing is actually quite diversified and the bar I play at regularly (the ol' Green Door in downtown) has a very diverse clientele. Everybody and anybody goes there. And they all hang out and get along. One of the best instances of different people learning how to get along that I've seen at the Green Door happened last fall. A man came in and stayed all night with some women friends and it was quite obvious that he was gay (he even asked me to dance with him!) Now the Green Door may be racially diverse, but not too many homosexuals go there. Lansing has a healthy homosexual community, but there is a way to go as far as acceptance goes. Anyway, he was dancing the whole time, even during the band breaks (I play 70s funk and disco CDs during the break to keep the crowd dancing) and while on break I overheard this black woman say to her friends, "Look at that faggot out there! He should be ashamed of himself. What is he doing here?" Through the night I kept watching her and him and she kept pointing and saying things to her friends. At one point he walked by her and she actually said something to him which I didn't hear. They began to talk, quite civil, and he got her to laugh somehow. Long story short, by the end of the night he was sitting at her table and they were laughing together having a good time. I thought it was quite touching. There are definately "black" and "white" neighborhoods here in Lansing. In fact, my wife and I recently put a bid on a house and my grandmother's first question after I told her where the house is located was "Is that a black neighborhood?" I told her it didn't matter to me. This post is getting long and I have no real answers, just some examples from my hometown. This is a really hard question. The whole sense of community in our country has fallen apart. How many of us know and talk to our neighbors on a regular basis? If we can't even talk to our neighbors in our white neighborhoods, how can we talk to and interract with people of different races?

Had to go for Boogaloo. It finds the most spins in my CD player as of late. Long live John Patton!

Should I create a "Polls" forum?!?

I would just like to say, regarding that ridiculous Ebay auction for the Cubs winning the 2003 World Series, that if that fuckin' bobblehead had such mystical powers of luck and brought such fortune to the Cubs... WHY WOULDN'T THE STUPID MOTHERFUCKER KEEP BETTER CARE OF IT!?!?!?! I mean, he loses the thing or breaks it about 300 times in that retarded story of his. Does he want to look like a complete moron??!? Ok... I'm done.

OK dude, spill it... more info on the gig, please!

Pistons Eastern Champs
Jim Alfredson replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Pistons took care of Philly last night. That was a great way to start the series. Hopefully they can win another one at home and maybe one at Philly and put this series away a little better than the last one. And hopefully Billups isn't hurt too bad. Not a good thing. Ben Wallace was dominating again on D. -
Harold, Any possibility of getting contact info for Herbert Morgan? Thanks
