BN Works TOCJ-4321 for £2.99

How about naming some names - which ones you like, and which you don't. I'd be interested. I currently listen on Sennheiser HD 650 headphones only so as not to get into trouble with the neighbours. This perhaps might make things more apparent and intollerable. The ones I truly like are some of the usual suspects like Monk's Genius of Modern Music. I also enjoy Cecil Taylor's Conquistador, Freddie Hubbard's Here to Stay, and some others. Some specific issues of RVGs I have problems with (and consequently no longer own): * On Art Blakey's Mosaic Wayne Shorter sounds like he is blowing through a layer of crepe paper on the title track. * Where's the bass on the first track of Andrew Hill's Point of Departure? Compare that to Refuge on the Mosaic box. * The high volume levels on the RVG of Hank Mobley's Another Workout make things sound more distorted and now also tiring than on the previous CD release. * Excess bass or low end on Andrew Hill's Black Fire. Tiring. * Dolphy's Five Spot Recordings. There are passages where the trumpet sounds unnatural compared to other releases I think. And what's with the near mono fetish? That shouldn't be a first choice for regular releases.

Perhaps a topic on quality teas? Darjeeling first flush, etc. Can be safely drunk in large quantities and remains affordable for the little man.

I undertand this has been discussed to death on the internet, but ... As someone who started seriously collecting jazz just before the introduction of the RVG series I feel quite some resentment towards Rudy van Gelder when I think about the amount of time and money I wasted on a lot of his subpar remasterings. Some I think are just fine or even very good, but surely most are messed up. They bothered me from the start, but I initially doubted my own audio equipment instead. A retirement home for both that man and his remasters, please.

Well, proclaiming yourself King (especially if by divine right) is a bit suspect.

I just came in from a walk. There was a dog eating feces while its owners were walking along unaware of what was happening. True story.

Thanks. Ordered for €11.99 from wowhd.nl. -
I estimate only a little over half the people here bother to pick up droppings. The worst aspect for me is being falsely accused by cranky old homeowners. They see a bunch of white dog hairs (excessive combing or even a haircut?) lying on a field next to their home and need a young person to vent their frustration against. As if the other grey old farts in the neighbourhood all clean up after their pooch.

I would add that a "meow" is far quieter than a "bark". We like that. No "lawn ornaments" to worry about since cats do their bodily functions an a sand filled box. Safety first! Cats bathe themselves [though a dog bath can be pretty comical and bonding for the owner and dog]. Cats are cheaper; dogs will cost you a bundle to buy and maintain. Besides, when our cats get the "zooms" it is free entertainment My golden retriever hasn't barked in over 18 months. He doesn't dump his 'ornaments' on any old lawn. I have to walk him to his sweet spots in the local parks for him to finally sit down after giving the place a thorough inspection with his nose. He swims daily in the local waterways. Keeping a dog is expensive, but golden retrievers do provide free entertainment. It's just that they are well behaved inside the house and (expect to) have a lot of fun outside in your company. Just so long as you pick up and toss the doggie doo. Some dog owners around my house just let their dogs run free or let them take a dump and do not pick it up. TBH, it's digusting. Picking up your own dog's doo gets easier once you bond. Just like the sloppy kisses. A sweet dog is like a child.

I forgot about Conference of the Birds, a favourite. My 1973 collection has just doubled. -

Paco de Lucia's Fuente y Caudal is the only record from 1973 I currently own. There's little jazz from the early seventies in my collection. I used to be into Led Zeppelin but Houses of the Holy was never a favourite. -
