  3. LENNY!!!! I'm quite happy for you to join me here as the new kids! But we're not allowed to talk about ourselves (or even each other) too much, unless we balance it with sufficient talk about album cover art. I actually don't believe this, but that's what some people on JC are saying about Organissimo, and I've made like 6 straight posts here without being a wise guy and I was about to explode. Whoa...Where the hell am I? I'm sorry, I thought I clicked on The Beer Thread but ended up here. LOL (it's ok to laugh here, right?) Since we're currently in the litter box you can even pee simultaneously!

  5. Link to Guardian article. She is already an internet sensation with a book deal – and now a movie star in the making too. Let's hope she has thanked her agent.
  6. Rooster_Ties, thank you for bumping this thread. I was not aware of the sampler with the single Joe Henderson track. I just ordered a copy.
  7. I downloaded needle drops of the LPs and they sounded dull compared to the 1993 CDs. By the way, Gene Paul, the recording engineer of the Changes albums, did the remastering on the Rhino/Atlantics. The Changes albums are the first of these Japanese releases I dismissed. Sadly others like the Lloyds also are too close to unacceptable to me.
  8. I've pretty much given up on reissues for this reason - BUT with the added doubt that I am not much convinced that I will get a sound I would like from those old tapes on any CD reissue. There is a problem with those old masters that engineers struggle to compensate. Since the advent of 24 bit remastering Warner engineers in Japan and the West have been twiddling the knobs in an unacceptable manner (highs & lows). Plus the Japanese Warner jazz reissues are among the loudest jazz CDs on the market. All these bright peaks are a pain when listening on headphones. I'm on a limited budget and there will always be gaps in my collection, artists underrepresented, key albums missing. From now on I will only buy releases with both essential music and well mastered sound. A release like the recent Mingus Mosaic live box set makes the most of the material at hand. This modern remastering nonsense does not.
  9. After listening to these eight discs over the last month I've come to the conclusion I'm not completely happy with the sound of any of them. This was probably the last time I purchased Warner Japan Jazz reissues.
  10. My experience is that if the mastering is the same, there is no noticeable difference.
  11. If you'd like to do a fair comparison of SHM versus standard CD, the following Coltrane SHM CDs have the same mastering as the recent Kevin Reeves Impulse! Originals remasters: Live at the Village Vanguard (UCCU-6069) Impressions (UCCU-6154) Live at Birdland (UCCU-6163) I verified this by making a secure rip and comparing CRC32 hash codes. I already suspected as much after listening with my Sennheiser HD650 headphones. Not all Japanese SHM Coltrane CDs have the same mastering as the Originals/Hip-O Select titles, e.g. Transition (UCCI-9202), Sun Ship (UCCI-9204), Meditations (UCCI-9209). I started collecting Coltrane SHM CDs for the different mastering and titles not included in the Originals/ Hip-O series.
  12. So, it seems the early Roth albums have been remastered again(Amazon link). Artwork the same as for the 2013 HDTracks 192kHz/24bit release.
  13. I've been down with the flu for the last few days.
  14. Does it remain inaudible during the summer heat or when its on for hours on end? I'd be interested to know in case mine (first gen) ever breaks down.
  15. The PS3's only major flaw is its noisiness (besides not being region free).
  16. one day late on it ! It's still available at Jazzmessengers. For people in the EU ? World: free shipping on all orders above €60 (regular mail) and €120 (TNT Courier) The Stitt box costs €144

  20. After previewing the music I've come to the conclusion I probably underestimated the quality and diversity of it. I thought it would all be along the lines of Change and Cuscuna mentioned in the liner notes to that it was the most successful of the free dates with Sam Rivers in this period. Anyway, the set is mastered by Malcolm Addey who did excellent work on the Andrew Hill big box and Passing Ships.
