R.I.p.
Just recently discovered him. Not a big flute fan but this guy was definitely great. I love his Washington Suite and there’s more on my to listen list!
Look Out is on the turntable now and it’s pretty freakin great it’s not that they are doing something extraordinary. It’s just that what they are doing sounds so damn good.
I never liked his music but his debut seems interesting for it's personnel: practically the Center of the World group with Bobby Few, Muhammad Ali and Frank Wright. First reissue:

It leaves small pieces of paper on the vinyl which causes pops and could damage the record but worse: taking it out en putting it back in makes tiny scratches on the surface. A lot of my Blue Note 75th anniversary releases have those scratches.
Best alternative are rice paper anti static sleeves. Nothing fancy or expensive so I really don’t understand they still put them in paper sleeves.
It’s good but also a little hard to say as I think the original tapes weren’t exactly best in sound. But it is that sound that really makes you feel like you’re attending a live Coltrane gig.
I can’t believe they still put these expansive releases in paper inner sleeves…. Part from that: great packaging.
He has quite a lot but there are some that made me almost jump from my chair:
Wise One (Crescent)
Suite (Transition)
Amen (Sun Ship)
Serraphic Light (Stellar Regions)
Am I the only one who is noticing such a stylistic difference between ‘Flight for Four’ and ‘Selfdetermination Music’? Same band, same recording year but quite a different sound. The first sounds heavily influenced by Ornette Coleman’s music while the latter is more free form playing with a more unique touch. Was this the intention of the artists?
oh and btw: stunning music.
How bout Barbara Donald? The first time I heard her play on a Simmons I was really blown away. I was surprised when I learned she’s not really well recorded.
Wow that stuff works on my nerves. But I could imagine it could work out for babies. My oldest son slept on the sound of a hairdryer when he was a baby.
Haha believe me, when both of my boys are a sleep, I want nothing more than to sleep myself
