  1. RIP a pianist I have always enjoyed. One of the pillars of Shaw’s band. And as Felser stated: one of those Strata East pianists.
  2. I think you will not regret it Hutchfan. Great musicians and great compositional choices. Michel is in suprème condition
  3. Playing this one now and it’s great! It’s unfortunate the guy hardly ever get mentioned here on the board. Great piano player with a great sound.
  4. I’ve got some of the Peterson’s, Tyners and Mulligans but too be honest: I do not really like them. Not bad or anything but by far not their best. A bit uninspired and sometimes dull. I’d probably like Peterson’s Summer Night in Munich best. But that is more because I have got a nostalgic memory to it.
  5. Enjoy Mark 👍
  6. with Stanley Cowell, Sonny Fortune, Onaje Allan Gumbs, Billy Hart etc. need I say more. This is a fantastic and underrated record. The ode to Coltrane is so beautiful....
  7. Shepp is sold!

    Noah Howard

https://www.discogs.com/Noah-Howard-Live-In-Europe-Vol-1/release/14914985 So is this legit? Label and back cover do mention Altsax which is not the original label but is Howard's own trademark....
  11. Thanks for the recommendations. I was doubting about those but now not anymore
  12. All on vinyl:
  13. Great stuff 👍
  14. Thanks for the detailed info. Much appreciated!
  15. My copy states it was recorded at 'The Jazzhaus' in Amsterdam. Searching on google for this venture does not give any real results. Did this place actually exist or are they referring to the Bimhuis? Edit: the back cover says Jazzhus was Dutch jazz collective. But where did they operate? Was it the Bim?
  16. What was the reason Cuscuna did not want it to be released?
  17. Thanks for the info guys! I Do know Abdul Wadud but did not know his birthname as mentioned on Discogs.
  18. Anyone who could tell some more about this recording? I don’t know it and don’t know the artists as well. It does sound interesting listening on YouTube.
  19. Stuff gets bad here in The Netherlands too. From this day: all schools, restaurants and all non essential shops will be closed for 3 weeks. I can’t imagine the economic damage. Also to my own big frustration: people are hoarding like mad men, and because they are hoarding others start hoarding too. It’s commonly known that food supplies are not in any danger. Wasn’t even the case in China or Italy. Unfortunately these situations don’t show that people are social creatures but selfish creatures. There was no bread, no baby food and no pain killer to be found anywhere. My baby boy got an ear ache. And while I can’t give him a painkiller and he’s in pain and can’t sleep, others without any disease symptoms are sitting on 5 boxes of painkillers... assholes. I am a high school teacher for kids with special educational needs. My tutorclass is in for the exams this year. Tomorrow we’ll have to make a plan to educate them from a distance.
  20. Yeah and an official release is also announced in the comments.... so I would wait for that one.
  21. Melancholic Tyner... fits perfect for this moment. Goodbye giant!
  22. My favorite McCoy, will be played a lot these days:

    Wynton Kelly

Yeah lots of of love for Wynton Kelly. A guy with a modest and gentle swing. Great technique and always a pleasure to listen to. Have to say I appreciate him the most as a sideman with countless artists. His work as a leader is nice but nothing that blows my mind. I do like Kelly Blue. Recently bought 'Someday My Prince Will Come' on Veejay but it hasn't won my heart yet. Time to give it another spin.
  24. Don’t know what to say. One the all time greats and one of my favorite piano players. The stuff he made for Blue Note and Milestone are from a rare consistent quality. Also a beautiful person. Unfortunately I never saw him in real life. God I hate myself. Some 12 or 14 years ago he was in Amsterdam at the Concertgebouw. I was 16 years old making a 100 euros a month with my parttime student job. A ticket was 50 euros or so. Found it a bit expensive and thought: Ah hè will probably come again within a few years. He never did... it was the last chance to see him and I didn’t go
