This one arrived today. And.... again it's beautiful. Very, very accesible too. Now listen from minute 4:00 how they let Snake Out fade into the beautiful Free for C.T. (Cecil Taylor). This is why I like these guys. The chemistry is so intense, the space they both take is huge. I love it.

Yeah me too. But for me a vinyl copy will do just fine as well. It’s on my wishlist.

That’s nice! I’ve got a copy of Waldron’s What it Is signed by Waldron if you like Hot House you should definitely give the other duet albums a try. They are strong without exception.

Nice to see that Waldron out on cd. It’s a great session. Also that McBee really needed a cd reissue. I’ve got the German Enja version which goes for 40 euros on Discogs.

Can’t remember I was ‘complaining’ nor was I stating people here called it ‘stone-cold classics’. I just gave my opinion on the sessions and asked if there were others who also felt that way. And there is never anything wrong with people enjoying music.

Am I the only one who is not very much impressed by these albums? Don’t get me wrong, the music’s good but these all really sound much like jam sessions. Another couple of one take recordings put on a new record, state some big names on the cover and hope it will sell. I miss inspiration and creativity.

Yeah I guess they could. I did not buy it trough Discogs but directly via their website. They indeed rate their product very conservatively (and are very, very expansive too). To a certain extent I follow their arguments: they are a ‘middle man’, selling stuff from other parties. But as I mentioned: what’s the difficult checking the items you sell? They are used, so opened and everything. If they did check it I did not lose 40 euros. To be honest: I did not expect this from them. Mostly they are very correct en customer friendly. I’d probably order from them again cause they are sometimes the only party but will be more careful in the future.

Well Kupiku is going to refund zero euros, nada.... to some extent I can follow their reasoning: after all they resell products from Japan. But what I really do not understand: they do not check the items condition upon arrival at their warehouse. Now, what’s the trouble doing a little checkup if your customer actually gets what he ordered? 40 euros gone to waste, what a shame. Anyway, just beware of this when ordering from Kupiku.

Yeah it is. Specially because it’s quite rare. In the 15 years I am buying cd’s it never happened. Why does it have to be this one.... That’s a good idea, thanks!

So I ordered this from Japan trough Kupiku. Arrived today... broken. 3 scratches that go all the way trough the aluminium, it’s unplayable from track 2. Paid 40 euros for it and the chance for obtaining it again is very small. if any boardmember here own it and could make a mp3 Rip for me and share with me so I could burn a CDR I would be eternally grateful!

Haha if we go that way I'd say: don't skip these too either But these are no duets of course....

The duets with Lacy are magical. Hard to name a favorite because they are all great. I will give it a try. This is probably the Holy Grail, the Magnum Opus. The music is incredible. But of course 4 cd's are a lot to start with. I really love this release. Great sound and it contains the true Waldron/Lacy classics like Epistrophy, Snake Out and Round Midnight. The interaction is stunning. This album is a bit Monkish. If you prefer the Strayhorn/Ellington stuff: Equally beautiful and probably the most accessible. BTW: the latest Jazzwerkstatt release Live In Berlin is also recommended.

Well, usually I am pretty optimistic but on this topic not so much. With 29 years old I am pretty young for a jazz fan. And its not a good thing that this is a fact. At jazz concerts, at jazz vinyl/cd stands on a fair I feel truly out of place. With small exceptions I am always the youngest. I don't think the average age attending these kind of things is 55 years old, it is probably more like 65 years old. The fact that David Murray could not even fill up half a Bimhuis, and Atomic couldn't even fill up a quarter.... All worying things I have witnessed. On the other hand I sometimes do see some hopeful things A kid from my tutor class (a high school class in the 16-17 age section) was listening to Coltrane making his test. Reminded me of myself, listening to Coltrane's Giant Steps while attending incredibly dull French lessons.

Adding more stuff to my Waldron collection.... Okay I admit it: its an obsession

Yes it’s slower than usual although it is very much dependent where to or where it comes from. Packages I sent to Germany took much longer than normal. Also I am waiting for a package from Japan for a month now which usually takes 1.5 week. Kupiku made me pay 25 dollars for their ‘special shipping service’ which was according to them: the only option in this time. Funny because another Japanese seller shipped a package for 5 dollars trough Amazon.

Yeah tastes differ of course but almost can’t believe one not liking this session. I own every Blue Note by Morgan but this one is definitely among my favorites. The version of Capra Black is mind blowing, maybe even better than on Harper’s own masterpiece.

To answer myself: they still are! I mailed some additions to Mal’s disco and they added them. They did not say thanks.... but hey I am glad!

Wow that is great! I doubt the other Strata East will ever be released....

Arrived today and must say: it does sound like Mal. Listened to the Call again to compare (the only record where Mal plays electric piano) and yeah: or this is Mal or this is a very good imitator. And I also share the feeling that there are two keyboard players (also like on The Call). Then there is the inner liner notes that do mention something like ‘when Mal recorded this music’ which makes it even more evident.... But what makes the mystery is of course that nor the cover not the LP itself mention Mal as keyboard player. Intrresting stuff and good observation Jim! More board members who got this record?

Oh boy I hope this version has the outtake with Coltrane scratching his chin 3 times
