    Byard Lancaster

That’s a great one. I’d add these two: Both reflecting/highlighting two of the many styles he was playing in.
  3. I’m somewhere between felser and sidewinder on this. Yes it’s a small company doing awesome projects. That’s why I like supporting them. I have good faith everything is gonna be alright. But they could really improve their communication and it might help to stop making promises that will be broken eventually. What’s the point of asking for payment of shipping fees if you’re not shipping the product in the coming 3 months? I could have used the money for other stuff in the meanwhile….
  4. Yeah that’s a great record and Mal plays lovely on it. I don’t think it will bother me as well with McCoy it was just something I noticed. I do wonder if Keith Jarrett would have played it 🤪
  5. Sound quality seems fine. I don’t think Blue Note would have picked it up if it wasn’t. Am I the only one hearing that the piano sounds a little out of tune? Haven’t heard it trough good speakers yet I must say so that might be the problem. Promising release. Such a pity there isn’t a version of ‘El Barrio’ on it. That must be one favorite Joe Henderson track (and one of my favorite jazz tracks ever).
  6. Whoops I almost forgot about the series. It’s been a while since payment now. Hope it will arrive this year
  7. Wow! That sounds fantastic.
  8. I always loved the covers of Mediations and A Love Supreme. Transition is probably the most ugly. I could see what you mean but I must say Coltrane was a pretty photogenic man. He has some kind of natural charisma that shows of on the pictures that were made of him.
  9. 🥰 such a beautiful record. Now playing:
  10. Very happy with this reissue. My 80’s OJC copy sounded great but had a huge scratch that was very audible. This remains a ‘60’s jazz classic and definitely Mal’s best pre-breakdown record.
  11. Sounds like an interesting project. Great to see David is still active on the scene.
  12. Vijay Iyer Trio at the Bimhuis. Not with Linda May Han Oh and Tyshawn Sorey but with two young talented guys I didn’t new. They played for 2 full hours and it was great. Vijay signed my copy of Uneasy afterwards. Friendly guy.
  13. Glad to have seen him live a few years ago when he was 91 or 92 but still had lots of energy. A great player with a distinctive tone. RIP
  14. I’d like to hear it and it might work but I must say that with Cannonball I love those soulful pianists he had in his groups. Especially Wynton Kelly was a match made in heaven
  15. Abdullah Ibrahim. 89 years old and still going strong. He played a beautiful set of well known repertoire and new compositions. It was again a very intimate experience. He finished his set with some singing and chanting. The whole crowd stood up from their seats, all completely silent you couldn’t hear anyone breathe. Goosebumps.
  16. When I saw him in Leuven in 2018 I thought that might be the only and last opportunity to see him perform live. But upcoming Saturday I will see him perform again in Utrecht: Abdullah Ibrahim, 89 years old. I assume he will play for a small hour, solo piano, his well known repertoire like he did in 2017. That was one of the most intimate concerts I’ve ever witnessed. Looking very much forward to it!
  17. Yes they do. It’s a huge problem and way more common with men than with woman. The whole me too discussion made very clear how big this problem is. I can’t remember denying this anywhere as this was not what we were talking about Clifford. We were discussing the particular Hubbard/Gets case. Now in that case the men are rapists, Freddie was a man so he was probably a rapist argument is what I call a false argument and ignoring my other arguments isn’t fair as well. all we are doing here is interpreting, interpreting and interpreting. Her story sounds plausible, it sounds sincere, it was too late to harm Hubbard so it must be true. We assume she might stopped her career because of it. Who are we to decide. We didn’t knew Getz, we didn’t knew Hubbard, we weren’t around. Who are we to judge? These cases could be very complicated. We simply can’t judge if it’s plausible or not. It really seems to be a phenomenon of this time that everybody has an opinion on everything and just state that that’s the way it is without any evidence nor real arguments. With just some information from an interview, newspaper or a book as ‘hard evidence’. I am probably not going to convince anyone around here and I am surprised to see that I stand alone in this case. I could only say that if this story is true, I feel incredibly sorry for Jane Getz that she became the billionth victim of a man that couldn’t control himself.
  18. Wow I am stunned that people are prepared to believe such a heavy accusation by just ‘because she tells so’ and with arguments like it’s best to believe woman in these cases. What if it does appear to be a lie, which isn’t realistic. Really I could understand the whole sentiment that the perpetrator of such a crime should hang, but by rule of law every person is still innocent till proven otherwise. I happen to know a guy, a high school friend I don’t see a lot anymore , who was accused by a jealous ex girlfriend. After all he was acquitted and the woman in question was even convicted for defamation but she reached her goal: she destroyed him. He lost everything and the whole thing still hunts him. I wonder if there are more stories like this about Freddie Hubbard? That would make it definitely more likely.
  19. Okay. So if someone says it happened, it happened. That’s pretty naive. There are plenty of motives to lie about such things and it happens a lot. I think it’s a healthy conception to say it might have happened or might not have happened and that we will never be sure.
  20. Thanks Mike that looks like an interesting book! Wasn’t aware of its existence so definitely going on the wantlist. But this leaves one question of course: does the fact that we tells it happened make it true? Again: if it did it would be horrifying. But is one witness statement enough to fully judge someone…
  21. I just became a mentor so if anyone need any advice by someone half their age....
