Forced Retirement sale continues - Blue Note and other vinyl
Pim replied to felser's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Unfortunate I live on the other side of the Atlantic. Great titles! -
Looking forward to it! I could definitely use some inspiration for the ‘80’s

https://www.dustygroove.com/item/990593?cat=jazz&incl_cs=1&no_incl_in=1&sort_order=release_date New Garrett on the way. I love his stuff from Triology till the amazing 'Beyond the Wall'. But can't say I really dug his last 3 albums.

I checked out Jazzmessengers but must have been too late That does not only go for new vinyl. The prices for used vinyl get more ridiculous with the minute.
-
With the new rules, ordering from the UK has become very expensive unfortunately And of course 65 pounds already is a pretty high price... Thanks anyway!

Ordered the cd. Vinyl is almost unavailable in Europe. Same goes for the Harold Land. Such a pity.

The European freejazz scene of the ‘60’s never really appealed to me. Don’t know why exactly but it just doesn’t. This whole topic makes me very much aware I know so little jazz from my own continent! have to say that I do like the Polish Jazz Series. Komeda and Stanko of course but also Andrzej Trzaskowski and Zbiegniew Namyslowski. Great music by underestimated musicians. Also like The Ganelin Trio from the Soviet Union and Szabados from Hungary. But I believe that was just a decade later than what you are looking for.

Is it me or are prices on Discogs getting more and more insane? With 90 items on my wantlist I could hardly find one attractive or even reasonable offer. Almost every seller tries to sell their stuff for at least 30 or 40 euros above the median price. That plus the shipping costs makes collecting vinyl something for rich people only. Buying my monthly vinyl really was something I always looked out for but not anymore.

+1. You are describing my thoughts exactly. Bird or Art Tatum blow my mind with their technical skills but I could not care less that Frank Wright did not have those skills. I still love his music anyhow.
-
Just recently started to explore his music. What a great musician. A true original!

Yeah in the Netherlands it’s only the province of Limburg. A crazy idea: we have such a small country and there’s one province where the precipitation is now more than 200 mm in a few days, while up near Amsterdam where I there wasn’t a single drop. Huge differences in a small country. Fortunately the damage in The Netherlands is mostly material. I really feel for the Belgian and German people.

For 52 dollars I would jump on that! Prices on Discogs are already going trough the roof.

Occasional Vocal Track on an Otherwise Instrumental Album
Pim replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yup. I always found the vocal track on Birth of the Cool a bit weird. Not to speak of ‘Two to Tango’ on the Lester Young/OP album. -
looking for someone in Japan to post some cds
Pim replied to Harbour's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I thought the same. Proxy shipping is also an option. -
Great to see you are enjoying it just as much as me Romualdo. It’s on my turntable for days now. @mjazzg I’ve got the same problem. After a couple of tries it does fit but they packed it a little too tight. And I was a little surprised it wasn’t a trifold. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna drop LP number 2 in a moment of inattentiveness…

Great documentary! Glad I finally had the chance to see it. Didn’t know Donald was such a troubled person. Not sure what to think of Mary Maria but I’ve always felt she wasn’t a very good influence and this documentary mostly confirms that feeling.

65 percent got their first shot. Almost 40% are fully vaccinated.

We almost had everything under control here with only around 500 new cases a day. And the number of people in hospital dropping from more than 2000 to only around 200. Everything went on smoothly with the release of restrictions: opening shops, restaurants and museums. Then, under pressure of all these mindless Covid deniers they decided to open up nightclubs, bars and festivals again. Within a week were back at 10.000 contaminations a day. Hospital cases are still low but this would probably change as well. Our country will probably be code red within a few days and then I have to cancel my vacation to Italy for the second time. This really sucks.

Just finished LP 3 for the first time now. This might become my favorite Tapscott recording. But I will give it some more spins for it might also be the enthusiasm for its arrival. But this is some insanely good music. What a fascinating musician he was. Tapscott is really Tapscott. But I could hear Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Monk and Mingus all in the same sentence. That with a strong Afrocentric influence. This music really moves me. It's fascinating. I should probably go buy all his records and start a new blog....

Thanks a lot. Been looking for it for a very long time!
-
Oh yes, thank God it did and it’s good. Very, very, very good.

I’ll stop complaining now and just be happy

Nice trio outing with George Mraz and Al Foster. But I would go for the recent 2cd Progressive release that also includes the other session: Mal ‘81. I believe it’s still in print. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00VGQTCFG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=news+run+about+mal&qid=1625510759&sr=8-1 I reviewed it here: https://snake-out.blogspot.com/2021/02/1981-news-run-about-mal-mal-81.html?

The recent 2021 Muzak reissue. That’s what this topic is about
