I’m a little active on the Steve Hoffman forums and there’s one thing that keeps amazing me: it’s the amount of issues people are reporting with new vinyl. And I am not talking bout European PD labels but the Blue Note Classics Vinyl Series, the Tone Poet series and the Verve Acoustic Sound Series. All pretty expensive analogue series pressed by quality plants. Non-Fill, warping, off-centered and the obvious ticks and pops: it rains complaints about them. Some people have returned one lp 3 or 4 times…. The thing is: I never had a single issue with them. I always wash them upon arrival and that’s it. In general I haven’t got many issues with vinyl either and if so then it’s mostly the cover that is damaged (Amazon once shipped an LP in a paper bag, really guys?). Question is; are these guys making a lot of fuzz for nothing or am I not critical enough?

I forgot to mention Eddie Henderson. Wallace Roney would be a fine replacement!

More stuff from Jazzline. They did some terrific work with the Onkel Po's series. Not sure I am gonna get me a copy of this. I always found the trio with Sharpe and Hayes very boring. Maybe the Hub could convince me.

Yeah I saw him in 2018 in Leuven, Belgium. His piano was unamplified so everybody hold their breath for the 45 minutes he played. Such an intimate experience and every note he played sounded so sincere and beautiful. It’s still one of my most memorable concerts.

Lovely guy, beautiful music. He mostly sticks to the same tunes nowadays but who could blame him. Thanks for sharing

I’ve got Waldrons On Steinway on P-Vine which sounds excellent. Thousand times better than the horrible Fuel 2000. Also got Clifford Jordan’s in The World but it has been a while that I gave that one a spin.

I do like the Calvin Keys. Part from that the music is hardly ever bad but fails to really impress me.

Great band but never liked this project. It really has a soundtrack kind of feeling with lots of short takes. I just can’t really get into it. Also dislike the vocals and all the bombast. Lots of talents to be heard but not my cup of tea. I do like the Jazz Composers Orchestra 60’s recordings though. Love Hadens LIberation Music Orchestra. But this one… not really Our taste being so similar starting to scare me

If you have the time/opportunity please do! Because I am wondering if I am becoming an audiophile ass.... I really feel that Om and Kulu Se Mama sound bad on that one. Ive got Ascension in a better version so havent listened to that one. I do like them too. No issues with the sound on the LP's? That is worthy information after all Thanks Mike, do you remember if that was on all the versions or only the one on 'Major Works Of John Coltrane'? I don't think OM was his strongest effort but I don't feel the disgust most people express for it. I still like it. You're second statement points out to me that it's time to get these sessions in better versions. But first I want to make sure it's really an issue with this particular version.
