In the meanwhile the guys at the Hoffman Board keep on going guessing whetether it's AAA or semi AAA, a little AAA, mostly AAA, very AAA or not AAA at all. If it's taken directly from the master tape, indirectly taken from the master tapes, taken from a copy tape or......
It must be hard if that's you're minimum standard for buying music. You might miss a lot of good music.
Finally it’s here!!!!!! Very glad this al turned out good. Definitely want to thank Matt for making this happen and feeling a little sorry now for my impatient attitude…. What a great project. This is a lot of stuff to digest that I’ll probably going to spread all over this year. I placed the cds in protective sleeves as I saw some small scratches already. I destroyed two Hatology cds by slipping them in and out of the cardboard and learned from that mistake. Hope others get their stuff soon as well.
Still hoping for Alkebu-Lan here.... Pure Pleasure did quite a lot of good reissues of the Strata East catalogue. But for some reason: they skipped the Mtume.
Oh yes and he made so many great records…. I must say I still can’t stand Aebi’s vocals but I am able to just listen trough it and enjoy the rest. I love her cello playing by the way.
Yeah I second some of the suggestions here for sure;
- Atomic: The Bikini Tapes and Boom Boom
- Angles: By Way of Deception, Injuries and Dissapeared Behind the Sun
- School Days - In our Times
Paal Nilssen Love is a big favorite of mine. I never cared much for Mats Gustafsson but he’s quite popular as well.
Not necessarily contemporary but far from traditional and very Scandinavian are the works of Jan Johansson which I highly recommend: Jazz Pa Svenska and Jazz Pa Ryska. It’s the kind of music you’d like to play when you’re poking the fire in your Swedish forest cabin. Not that I’ve ever done that but I’d like to and than listen to Johansson highly atmospheric tunes
Definitely. It’s a V-Pine edition from the late 80’s.
More classic 60’s Freejazz. Marzette Watts and company. Great company that is: Byard Lancaster, Clifford Thornton, Henry Grimes, Jooney Booth, Karl Berger, Sonny Sharrock, J.C. Moses.
