  1. with Ahmed Abdullah, Billy Bang, Marion Brown, Sirone, Fred Hopkins and Andrew Cyrille. Must say it‘s not as great as expected seeing those names but it’s still a very solid session.
  2. The combination of patatoes, bacon and onions is excellent. But you should never buy those instant meals. Yikes!
  3. Nice to listen once in a while but I prefer the trio with Thigpen. These LP’s are the oldest in my collection (end of the 1950’s) and I like that idea.
  4. Yeah surface noise is the biggest problem. The vinyl looks very clean but doesn’t sound clear. I’ll keep that in mind buying new records.
  5. You have to be lucky with these Rainbo pressings. This one sounds pretty… Solid! Thanks I’ve got that one on my radar. My copy is a Dutch mono from the 60’s. My Dutch mono of MJQ’s Fontessa also sound pretty bad…. Might be coincidence
  6. That’s a great set by Sam!
  7. one of his lesser efforts for MPS imo now that’s a TP candidate. This Fontana reissue sounds awful…. Lots of background noise and the piano far in the background. I wonder: is it the recording or the pressing? The vinyl looks very clean but doesn’t sound that way.
  8. You must be the happy owner of that limited edition without ring wear and no saw cut
  9. Oh how I wished for a TP of this one but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. I finally managed to obtain a OG copy for a ‘reasonable’ price. Pity almost all of them have ring wear or cut out or even both. But the vinyl sounds so incredibly great I don’t feel the need for a new reissue anymore. I nevertheless hope for others it will come because this is essential Lee Morgan. That moment Billy Harper kicks in on Capra Black is one of those classic ‘amen’ moments in jazz. This whole record always made me wonder what direction Morgan would head to if he had not been shot. Really the names say it all don’t they: Lee, Billy Harper, Grachan Moncur III, Harold Mabern, Julie Merritt, Reggie Workman and Freddie Waits….

    Kenny Garrett

Last time I saw him play was a year and a half ago or something like that. He played with a Quintet: sax/piano/bass/drums/percussion. He played some of his older tunes which were awesome. Also played some of the stuff of his last two albums which I find less interesting. Than the public was invited to dance for like half an hour on a breakbeat which became a little tiring…. That’s not my thing
  11. One underaprecciated master of trombone. And a young Tapscott at the piano Thats such a great period. I love that period of his playing.
  12. Ah so my Japanese issue is wrongly printed 😰 thanks for the info!
  13. Cool! I didn’t knew that.
  14. so what’s the front and what’s the back cover? All sources have the red as the front but my Japanese reissue has the other one as the front and the red one as the back cover. According to a Discogs user that’s also the case with the OG US release. Stunning music anyway with really of the musicians truly shining. Cowells melodic approach to the piano matches better than expected with Rashied Ali’s drumming. One lovely ESP session.
  15. Flawless ‘70’s Japanese reissue
  16. For those who like solo Mal, it’s highly recommended
  17. Yeah that’s a great one. Great pressing and even better music.
  18. You are not the only impatient guys around
  19. Posted this in the wrong thread…. my 4 year old boy got a day off from school so that means Lego and this Blue Note playlist. I didn’t knew there was a cd release of that. I got both volumes on vinyl. Essential Max Roach
